Abstract

Market power refers to a company's ability to influence the price of goods or services in the market. In a perfectly competitive market, both buyers and sellers have set prices, therefore businesses can set their prices without affecting the market price. In contrast, in less pure market structures such as oligopoly or monopoly, businesses can set prices and influence the market. When businesses with strong market power outperform new competitors, it constrains consumer purchasing power and allows businesses to set prices and improve product quality. In addition, technology plays an important role in production efficiency, as innovation can lower costs and create new products that meet consumer needs. The purpose of this study is to analyze the role of market forces in pricing and technological advances and provide important implications for producers to determine the price of goods and services. This research uses a qualitative approach combined with a literature review approach to analyze data related to the main topic of research. The data comes from secondary literature, which includes books, scientific journals, and articles. The study found that high market concentration, where a few large firms dominate, often leads to less competition and increased market power for those firms. This can lead to higher prices, lower quality, and less innovation.

Abstract

Industrial policy in Indonesia faces significant challenges in an era of increasingly complex globalization. Globalization brings great opportunities for domestic companies to compete globally, but also poses risks such as economic inequality and unemployment. To address these challenges, the government needs to develop a smart industrial policy that not only encourages sectoral growth but also stimulates cross-sectoral innovation. Selecting imported goods, imposing high import fees on commodities that can already be produced domestically, and providing capital injections to companies with comparative advantages are effective ways to protect local industries from the negative impacts of globalization. Digitalization must also go hand in hand with the implementation of this strategy so that sectors can use digital technology to increase productivity and create new economic opportunities, especially for micro, small, and start-up businesses. Furthermore, Indonesia's economic strength in navigating the problems of globalization may lie in its integration with the creative economy. Indonesia's industrial economy requires creative and innovative human resources so that the creative sector can develop and compete on a global scale.

Abstract

This article explains the impact analysis of Starlink's entry into the telecommunications industry in Indonesia. In the modern era, the telecommunications industry in Indonesia has grown rapidly, but still faces geographical challenges and limited infrastructure. The telecommunications market in Indonesia is dominated by several large players, such as Telkomsel, XL Axiata, and Indosat, which control more than 95% of the market share. However, the presence of Starlink, a satellite internet network project owned by SpaceX, has changed the dynamics of this competition. Starlink offers high-speed internet connectivity without the need for fiber optic cable infrastructure, making it effective in reaching remote areas that are difficult to reach by traditional technology. By using thousands of small satellites in low orbit, Starlink offers a stable and reliable internet connection with low latency. This analysis uses a literature review method to compare and analyze theories related to oligopoly and technological innovation. The results show that Starlink has the potential to trigger innovation and improve the quality of service in the Indonesian telecommunications industry. Although initially expensive, Starlink is believed to become cheaper if demand increases, thus encouraging local providers to innovate and increase their service coverage.

Abstract

In the era of digitalization, many new companies have emerged with their own advantages. However, if they are unable to compete, they tend to survive for a short time. One way to survive is through integration and merger. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with a literature study. The results show that Meta Platform and Walt Disney dominate the market in their respective sectors, thus falling into the oligopoly market category. Meta dominates social networks by integrating WhatsApp and Instagram, copying the Reels feature to compete with TikTok, and connecting platforms to improve efficiency and user convenience. This strategy strengthened its position with billions of monthly active users. Walt Disney expanded its influence through mergers with Pixar, Marvel, 21st Century Fox and Lucasfilm, and expanded into theme parks, consumer products and digital services such as Disney+. These moves saw Disney dominate the global box office and earn huge revenues.

Abstract

An analysis of the oligopoly market model and strategies applied in the telecommunications services industry in Indonesia, which has undergone significant transformation since market liberalization in the 1990s. This study finds that the Indonesian telecommunications market is dominated by several large companies, such as Telkomsel, Indosat, XL Axiata, and Smartfren, which have substantial market power. The high market concentration creates significant barriers to entry for new companies, thereby strengthening the position of existing companies and creating complex competitive dynamics. The findings suggest that the Bertrand oligopoly model is highly relevant in this context, where price competition is one of the main strategies used by operators to attract customers. Although price competition provides benefits to consumers, challenges in terms of regulation and operational efficiency remain, which require attention from policy makers. In addition, product and service innovation, such as the development of 4G and 5G networks, is a major focus for companies to improve customer experience and maintain market share. This article also highlights the importance of collaboration in the development of telecommunications infrastructure, despite the existence of intense competition. The results of this study are expected to provide valuable insights for industry players and policy makers in formulating more effective and sustainable strategies, as well as creating an inclusive and competitive telecommunications ecosystem in Indonesia.
