Abstract

Abstract

The rapid growth of the elderly population requires assistive technologies that support mobility, health, and safety. This study presents the development of an IoT-based smart cane designed to enhance elderly independence and health monitoring in Batam, Indonesia. The prototype integrates non-invasive health sensors (MAX30102 for heart rate and SpO₂, MLX90614 for temperature, and a non-invasive glucose sensor), a GPS module, a mini-CCTV with two-way audio, and a solar-powered energy system, all controlled by an ESP32 microcontroller connected to the Blynk IoT platform. Ergonomic design was guided by anthropometric data of Indonesian elderly to ensure user comfort and usability. Experimental results demonstrated stable performance of the integrated modules. Heart rate values ranged from 86–103 BPM (mean 89.5 ± 6.2 BPM), blood glucose estimations from 110–112 mg/dL (mean 111 ± 0.9 mg/dL), and body temperature from 36.9–37.1 °C (mean 37.0 ± 0.1 °C), all of which aligned closely with clinical references. Oxygen saturation readings, however, averaged 89 ± 0.8%, slightly below the clinical norm (≥95%), highlighting the need for sensor calibration. Dynamic testing of the GPS module across a 500-meter route achieved positional accuracy within 3–5 meters, while the CCTV system successfully streamed live video but was dependent on WiFi stability. The novelty of this research lies in the unique combination of locally adapted ergonomic design, multi-sensor non-invasive health monitoring, two-way visual and audio communication, GPS tracking, and renewable energy integration within a single portable device. These contributions not only enrich IoT-based healthcare research but also provide practical solutions tailored to elderly care in Indonesia. Future work will focus on clinical-grade validation of sensors, extended field trials, and the integration of predictive analytics using Machine Learning and Fuzzy Logic.

Abstract

Purpose: The goal is to improve how inventory is managed in healthcare by using K-Means clustering to analyze prescription trends. This approach helps ensure better stock availability, streamlines operations, and ultimately increases sales opportunities. Methods: This research applied the K-Means clustering algorithm to analyze a comprehensive dataset of prescription behaviors from XYZ Clinic. By grouping similar prescriptions into clusters, this method highlighted patterns within the data. These insights led to the identification of unique prescription categories, enabling the creation of tailored recommendations for improving inventory management. Result: The analysis showed that Cluster 1 should be prioritized for inventory management due to its high sales potential and consistent prescription patterns. It is recommended to increase stock for the medications in Cluster 1 to improve inventory turnover and streamline clinical operations. These findings underscore the value of K-Means clustering in healthcare, especially for enhancing inventory management and operational efficiency. Novelty: This research presents a novel application of K-Means clustering in healthcare, focusing on prescription patterns and inventory management. While previous studies have primarily used K-Means clustering for areas such as risk assessment and logistics, this study provides valuable data-driven insights to improve inventory management strategies in healthcare. The results highlight how clustering methods can support better decision-making and resource allocation, ultimately leading to greater operational efficiency and improved patient care.

Abstract

Abstract

Purpose: This program aimed to strengthen digital financial literacy among youth in Batam, focusing on safe and practical savings and investment strategies that are aligned with current technologies. Methodology/approach: The community service program (PKM) was conducted in three stages: preparation (materials, partner coordination, outreach), implementation (talks, hands-on use of e-wallets/auto-debit/micro-investing apps, discussions), and evaluation (pre- and post-questionnaires and feedback). Results/findings: Most participants rated the materials as clear and useful, and many reported better knowledge and readiness to adopt digital saving and try beginner-friendly instruments introduced during the session. The participants represented diverse ages and education levels and included students and MSMEs. Conclusions: The PKM program effectively enhanced digital financial literacy and motivated participants to manage their finances in a modern context. Most participants clearly understood the material, found it relevant, and showed improved knowledge and readiness to save and invest digitally. Despite challenges related to time constraints and varying levels of digital literacy, the program positively influenced the adoption of wise financial behavior in the technological era. Limitations: Short duration, varied baseline literacy, and intermittent Internet access limited deeper practice; long-term behavioral outcomes were not tracked. Contribution: The PKM effectively improved essential competencies in digital money management and encouraged prudent technology-enabled behaviors among youth. We recommend follow-up coaching and long-term monitoring to consolidate saving habits and safe, small-ticket investing.
