Abstract

Abstract

Background: Lay people are the first and main helpers for victims who experience emergencies outside the hospital. However, facts on the ground show that people are often confused about providing assistance to victims at the scene and tend to wait for the medical team, thereby missing the "golden time" of first aid to victims outside the hospital. One of the efforts that must be made to overcome this is to improve the behavior of ordinary people in carrying out BT&CLS skills. Counseling and simulations about BT&CLS are an important solution and effort to improve the behavior of ordinary people in providing prehospital emergency assistance. Purpose: The aim of this community service activity is to improve the behavior of ordinary people by empowering Sekaa Teruna Teruni related to BT&CLS skills through counseling and simulation. Method: This stage of PKM activities uses the POAC concept approach, namely planning by conducting assessments with partners about PKM activities, organizing through approaches with related parties, and analyzing the readiness of DM patients to receive training. Actuating and controlling training for Teruni youth students regarding BT&CLS for victims of trauma and cardiac arrest, evaluation, and reflection. Results: The average pre-test result of Sekaa Teruna Teruni before counseling and BT&CLS simulation for trauma and cardiac arrest victims was 52.53, which increased in post-test results to 77.20 after being given training. Conclusion: There was an influence of BT&CLS counseling and simulation on sekaa teruna teruni in the Pedungan Region.

Abstract

Pain management in the Emergency Department (ED) is crucial for humanitarian reasons and is associated with significant morbidity. Previously, pharmacologic therapies like acetaminophen, opioids, and NSAIDs were used, but they carry risks of side effects. Non-pharmacological interventions are often used in conjunction with pharmaceutical therapies to improve pain management and reduce opioid use. This study's purpose was to describe the non-pharmacological interventions that nurses can provide in addressing pain experienced by patients in the ED. This is a literature study from several databases such as Science Direct, ProQuest, SpringerLink, and PubMed using keywords combined with Boolean. The study's selection process involved searching 769 articles using keywords, excluding 27 duplicates and 712 articles not meeting research objectives. After a full-text review of 30 selected articles, 19 were excluded, and 11 were selected for inclusion. Acupuncture therapy is the most commonly used non-pharmacological therapy, followed by warm/cold compresses, distraction, and deep breath relaxation. Non-pharmacological therapies can be given to manage pain in patients in the ED. Combining pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies can provide more analgesia for severe pain.

Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: Knowledge and skills of health workers regarding Advanced Life Support (ALS) are an important part that needs to be trained and improved with appropriate training modalities in handling cardiac arrest patients. This literature review aims to find out which modalities are the most effectively applied to ALS training which can increase the knowledge and skills of health workers in conducting ALS. Methods: Literature study using 11 articles that have been published and peer-reviewed from data-based PubMed, CINAHL, and ScienceDirect using the keywords effectiveness, advanced life support, modalities, nurses, knowledge, and skills. Searches were limited to full text articles, experimental designs, publications from 2017 to 2022. Selection of articles in research using flowchart Prisma. Results: Analysis of eleven articles or journals related to the research objectives found that the video training was the most effective methods in increasing the knowledge and skills of respondents in ALS training. The implementation of ALS training in a hybrid manner, namely the use of non-face-to-face learning methods using video with face-to-face training led by an instructor, showed no significant difference, but video training was preferred because it provides convenience regarding time, place of implementation, and more training participants. Conclusion: ALS training must be given to nurses at least once a year, so it can be suggested to institutions to use the learning video method as a method of providing training.
