Abstract

The major floods that hit Aceh Province in November 2025 had a significant impact on the social, economic, and infrastructure lives of people in various districts. The disaster management places local governments as the main actors in the emergency response phase, especially in evacuation, logistics distribution, cross-agency coordination, and crisis communication. This study aims to analyze the response of the Aceh local government to the November 2025 floods and identify the factors that affect the effectiveness of the response. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data was collected through analysis of official government documents, online media reports, and social media content of people affected by the floods. Data analysis was carried out using thematic analysis to identify government response patterns, field constraints, and crisis communication dynamics. The results of the study show that the response of local governments is relatively fast in urban areas with good transportation access. However, there have been significant delays in isolated areas due to infrastructure damage and limited coordination. In addition, the mismatch between the government's official narrative and the conditions on the ground has an impact on declining public trust. On the other hand, the resilience of local communities plays a key role as a buffer in the early phases of disasters through self-evacuation initiatives and community solidarity. This study concludes that the effectiveness of local government responses in flood management is influenced by regional access factors, disaster management governance, and the quality of crisis communication. Strengthening cross-agency coordination, empathetic communication strategies, and integrating the role of local communities are the main recommendations to improve disaster management in the future.

Abstract

The rapid growth of modern retail in Indonesia has accelerated the expansion of franchise minimarkets across urban and semi-urban areas. Despite their standardized operating systems and brand advantages, many franchise minimarket outlets fail and close within the second to third year of operation. This study aims to identify and explain the key factors contributing to early franchise minimarket failure through a qualitative approach that foregrounds owners’ lived experiences and interpretations of failure. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with former franchise minimarket owners whose outlets had ceased operations, and were strengthened through netnography and document analysis as triangulation to enhance credibility. All qualitative data were analyzed using NVivo 15 following a thematic analysis procedure involving data familiarization, open coding, categorization, and theme development to reveal dominant patterns underlying business closure. The findings indicate that franchise minimarket failure is a multifactor phenomenon shaped by the interaction of internal and external pressures. Key internal drivers include weak marketing management, limited capability to develop adaptive sales strategies, and escalating operational costs. External drivers include non-strategic locations, shifting customer traffic patterns, declining local purchasing power, and aggressive competition from large networked modern retailers. Outlets established without adequate market feasibility assessment were more vulnerable to recurring losses and cash-flow constraints, ultimately leading to closure. These findings underscore the importance of rigorous pre-entry planning, strengthened managerial capacity, and supportive zoning policies to improve the sustainability of franchise minimarkets.

Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to determine the extent of stress experienced by graduate students while working, spending time with family, and attending classes, as well as to explore various strategies to cope with the stress they face in managing multiple roles. A qualitative research method was used for this study. Data were collected through interviews and observations. The participants in this study were graduate students who were employed. The collected data were analyzed and conclusions were drawn. The research findings on stress related to the dual roles of work, family, and academic studies experienced by graduate students include academic pressures such as course materials, assignments, class schedules, time allocated for assignments, tuition fees, missed class information, forgetting to complete assignments, and knowledge-related issues. Meanwhile, pressures in the workplace include a high volume of work, complex tasks requiring extra mental effort, short deadlines, inadequate facilities and infrastructure, unsuitable leadership, and difficult coworkers. Additionally, simultaneously juggling multiple roles creates its own pressures, such as the need to complete work and academic tasks at the same time. Various strategies employed by graduate students in managing dual roles aim to minimize stress, resolve conflicts, and help students achieve their desired goals. These strategies are tailored to the type of stress present. Furthermore, each issue requires its own unique resolution, as no two problems are the same.

Abstract

The bankruptcy of PT Sri Rejeki Isman Tbk (Sritex), once one of Indonesia’s largest and most prominent textile manufacturers, represents a significant case of strategic failure within an increasingly competitive global manufacturing environment. Despite its long-standing reputation as a major exporter and supplier to international fashion brands and military institutions, Sritex ultimately collapsed under mounting financial and strategic pressures. This study aims to identify and explain the key internal and external factors that led to Sritex’s bankruptcy, while drawing strategic lessons for firms operating in export-oriented manufacturing industries. The research adopts a qualitative case study approach using secondary data collected from academic publications, industry reports, corporate documents, and credible news sources from 2023-2024. Data were analyzed through an integrated strategic management framework comprising SWOT analysis, Porter’s Five Forces, and the VRIO model to assess competitive pressures, strategic positioning, and resource sustainability. The findings indicate that Sritex’s former competitive strengths were no longer sufficient to withstand structural changes in the textile industry. Intense global competition, rising imports, and shifting demand patterns were compounded by internal weaknesses, including excessive leverage, rigid operations, and inadequate risk management. These factors collectively accelerated the firm’s financial distress and organizational breakdown. The study highlights the importance of strategic adaptability, prudent financial governance, and alignment between internal capabilities and external industry dynamics.
