Abstract

The online food delivery (OFD) industry in Indonesia is experiencing increasing profitability pressure driven by intense competition, low consumer switching costs, and rising incentive and logistics expenses. These conditions require platforms to shift their strategic focus from aggressive expansion toward sustainable profitability. This study aims to examine GoFood’s strategic position in responding to such pressures and to formulate relevant strategic directions in a maturing market. A case study approach based on desk research was employed, utilizing secondary data analyzed through the PESTEL framework, Porter’s Five Forces, and the VRIO model, which were subsequently synthesized using a SWOT/TOWS matrix. The findings indicate that the OFD industry is characterized by high competitive rivalry and strong buyer power, causing promotion-heavy strategies to exert downward pressure on margins. Internally, GoFood benefits from ecosystem scale, multi-sided orchestration capabilities, data-driven technology, and strong brand equity, while still facing challenges related to service quality variability. The study highlights that service reliability differentiation and the expansion of non-incentive monetization, such as advertising and merchant solutions, are critical strategies for balancing growth and profitability. Academically, this research contributes to the literature on digital platform strategy by providing empirical insights from the OFD sector in an emerging market context.

Abstract

Recurrent flooding in Sumatra has triggered intense debate on social media regarding its underlying causes and the attribution of responsibility. While previous disaster studies in Indonesia have largely emphasized technical and physical dimensions, limited attention has been given to how public discourse frames flood causality in digital spaces. This study aims to examine how the causes of flooding in Sumatra are constructed in social media discourse and to identify which actors are most prominently associated with responsibility. Employing a qualitative multi-platform netnographic approach, this research analyzes user-generated comments from Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok collected during the first month following major flood events. Data were examined using NVivo 15 through word frequency analysis, word cloud visualization, and hierarchical mapping to identify dominant themes and framing patterns. The findings reveal that public discourse predominantly frames flooding as a natural and moral phenomenon, emphasizing environmental factors and religious interpretations. Although references to government accountability and corporate activities such as deforestation and extractive industries are present, they appear less frequently and in fragmented forms. These results suggest that social media discourse tends to depoliticize flood risk by foregrounding natural explanations, while structural and governance-related factors remain marginal. This study contributes to disaster communication scholarship by highlighting the discursive production of disaster risk in digitally mediated public arenas.

Abstract

The major floods that hit Aceh Province in November 2025 had a significant impact on the social, economic, and infrastructure lives of people in various districts. The disaster management places local governments as the main actors in the emergency response phase, especially in evacuation, logistics distribution, cross-agency coordination, and crisis communication. This study aims to analyze the response of the Aceh local government to the November 2025 floods and identify the factors that affect the effectiveness of the response. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data was collected through analysis of official government documents, online media reports, and social media content of people affected by the floods. Data analysis was carried out using thematic analysis to identify government response patterns, field constraints, and crisis communication dynamics. The results of the study show that the response of local governments is relatively fast in urban areas with good transportation access. However, there have been significant delays in isolated areas due to infrastructure damage and limited coordination. In addition, the mismatch between the government's official narrative and the conditions on the ground has an impact on declining public trust. On the other hand, the resilience of local communities plays a key role as a buffer in the early phases of disasters through self-evacuation initiatives and community solidarity. This study concludes that the effectiveness of local government responses in flood management is influenced by regional access factors, disaster management governance, and the quality of crisis communication. Strengthening cross-agency coordination, empathetic communication strategies, and integrating the role of local communities are the main recommendations to improve disaster management in the future.

Abstract

The rapid growth of modern retail in Indonesia has accelerated the expansion of franchise minimarkets across urban and semi-urban areas. Despite their standardized operating systems and brand advantages, many franchise minimarket outlets fail and close within the second to third year of operation. This study aims to identify and explain the key factors contributing to early franchise minimarket failure through a qualitative approach that foregrounds owners’ lived experiences and interpretations of failure. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with former franchise minimarket owners whose outlets had ceased operations, and were strengthened through netnography and document analysis as triangulation to enhance credibility. All qualitative data were analyzed using NVivo 15 following a thematic analysis procedure involving data familiarization, open coding, categorization, and theme development to reveal dominant patterns underlying business closure. The findings indicate that franchise minimarket failure is a multifactor phenomenon shaped by the interaction of internal and external pressures. Key internal drivers include weak marketing management, limited capability to develop adaptive sales strategies, and escalating operational costs. External drivers include non-strategic locations, shifting customer traffic patterns, declining local purchasing power, and aggressive competition from large networked modern retailers. Outlets established without adequate market feasibility assessment were more vulnerable to recurring losses and cash-flow constraints, ultimately leading to closure. These findings underscore the importance of rigorous pre-entry planning, strengthened managerial capacity, and supportive zoning policies to improve the sustainability of franchise minimarkets.
