Abstract

Petai (Parkia speciosa Hassk) is a horticultural plant as a vegetable that is beneficial for health. Petai can help treat digestion to help neutralize stomach acid. Petai has a fairly high nutritional content, namely vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium, and iron so it is necessary to make efforts to cultivate petai plants as a business opportunity. Petai trees grow and develop in Kenayan village, namely on vacant village treasury land, cliff land and yard. This service aims to increase the knowledge of farmers in the cultivation of petai. Service activities are carried out using a participatory method. The service activities were carried out 4 times, namely counseling on petai cultivation related to the provision of plant materials, care, harvesting and post-harvest, socialization about the propagation of petai plants by grafting, handing over assistance of a number of grafted petai seeds in the hope of fruiting more quickly and assistance in socialization about petai cultivation. Public knowledge about petai cultivation and how to propagate petai by grafting has increased. Grafting is one way to improve the quality of plants by attaching a piece of tree bark with buds from the scion to a slice of the bark of another tree from the rootstock so that it grows together to form a new plant. Planting petai in the yard of the house is an alternative as an herbal treatment to improve health and increase family income.

Abstract

Common problems in cashew tree development are low plant productivity caused by the use of unqualified seeds and limited knowledge of seed handling. This research was aimed to study the role of the mother tree on the growth of cashew seeds and study the seedling and growth of cashew trees in several planting media. The method used was Completely Randomized Design (CRD), consisting of two treatment factors and 4 replications. The first factor was the planting medium consists of 4 types: soil; soil: manure (2: 1); husk charcoal: manure (2: 1); soil: charcoal husk: manure (1: 1: 1). While the second factor was the origin of the seeds from the parent tree with fruit colors red, green, yellow, pink. The results showed that the planting soil medium was very significantly affected by increasing plant growth, namely plant height, number, and leaf area. The interaction between media and seed origin was not significantly affected plant growth. The best seed growth was found on soil media, plant height reaches 31.750 cm, number of leaves with 19 leaves, with an area of 48.437 cm2.

Abstract

The productivity of red ginger in Indonesia has decreased by 9,174 tons compared to 2017. The decrease is due to the very limited area of red ginger production, the method of red ginger cultivation, which is still very conventional, and the low amount of organic matter in the soil. This study examines the effect of planting media composition on the growth and production of red ginger. The study used a Completely Randomized Block Design (RCBD) with six treatments, namely control (soil without manure), cow manure: green manure: soil (1:1:1), P2 = goat manure: green manure: soil (1:1:1), green manure: soil (1:2), cow manure: soil (1:2), and goat manure: soil (1:2) and repeated four times. Composition media of goat manure: green fertilizer: soil with a ratio of 1:1:1 could increase the growth of red ginger in variable plant height, number of leaves in the clump, leaf area, and the weight of fresh stover with a yield of 52.7 cm; 10,75; 148,5; 2952.59 cm2; and 307.33 g. Composition of green fertilizer media: soil with a ratio of 1:2 could increase the weight of dry stover with a value of 39.32 g, and red ginger production includes fresh weight of rhizomes 111.32 g, storage weight of rhizomes 107.87 g, and rhizome volume 124.12 cm3.

Abstract

Consumption of herbal medicines by Indonesian people is increasing because of the price and ease of obtaining them. One of the main ingredients of herbal medicine is mint leaves because they contain tannin and flavonoid secondary metabolites. However, the generative mint plant is very slow and needs vegetative cuttings propagation. This study aims to examine the effect of auxin-type growth regulators and the composition of the growing media on the growth and yield of mint plant cuttings. This study used a complete randomized block design with two factors. The first factor was the auxin growth regulator with four levels: without growth regulator, IBA 500 ppm, IAA 500 ppm, NAA 500 ppm. The second factor was the composition of the planting medium with three levels, namely soil, husk charcoal, and goat manure 3:3:1; 3:2:2, and 3:1:3. Three repetitions were carried out. Auxin affects the number and area of leaves. Applying 500 ppm NAA encouraged the highest leaf growth, with the number of leaves at 163.38. Growth regulator NAA 500 ppm increased the number of leaves and leaf area of mint plants, i.e., by 0.01% and 1.16% compared to the control. The growing media composition affected the crown fresh weight, root biomass, and crown root ratio. The media composition of 3:3:1 produced a crown fresh weight of 41.07 g, and the media composition 3:3:3 produced the highest biomass of 5.97 g. The media composition 3:1:3 showed the highest root crown ratio, 2.69%. Auxin and the composition of the growing media synergistically promote the growth and yield of mint cuttings.

Abstract

Shallots (Allium ascalonicum L.) are a horticultural commodity with consistently high consumption and demand. However, production data reveal frequent fluctuations, often leading to price instability and reliance on imports during certain periods. This research aimed to determine fertilizer dosages and gibberellic acid (GA3) application for three shallot varieties to optimize their productivity sustainably and efficiently. The study was conducted from May to August 2025 at the Pancot Village, Tawangmangu, Karanganyar, located at an elevation of 1200 meters above sea level. A Split-Plot Design was employed with three replications. Shallot varieties constituted the main plots, while combinations of fertilizer dosage and GA3 formed the sub-plots. Quantitative data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) at a 5% significance level (F-test). When significant differences were detected, Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT) was used for post-hoc comparisons. The results demonstrated that the application of 50 ppm gibberellic acid, combined with a fertilizer dosage of 50% inorganic + 150% organic, significantly increased the number of shoots per clump (7,21), number of bulbs per clump (8,33), and productivity per clump (58,96).
