Abstract

The advancement of information and communication technology (ICT) in the field of education encourages educators to improve their technology integration skills. This has an impact on school programs, which must be ready to adapt to the times to meet the learning needs of students during the industrial revolution. 4.0. One of the efforts to address the aforementioned challenges is training on the development of digital learning materials using whiteboard animation. The teachers at 'Aisyiyah Midle and Hight Schools (SMP and SMA) in the Lawang sub-district who participated in the activity were able to develop the teaching materials after 50 hours of training that they already possessed by creating material scenarios, which were then transformed into Whiteboard animation. At first, the teachers admitted that it was difficult to understand the selected application, but with perseverance and the guidance of the training materials, all participants were able to create their first whiteboard animation. Furthermore, based on the analysis, it was discovered that the most difficult obstacle encountered by the participants was when adapting to the application and preparation of material development, which was followed by the need to find and develop ideas for the material to be made. The majority of participants are committed to using this application in the creation of additional materials. It is also hoped that similar materials or their development will be obtained in the future.

Abstract

Acquiring a foreign language necessitates navigating practical situations that transcend linguistic and cultural barriers. Therefore, it is the teachers’ responsibility to develop these abilities. However, teachers rarely do so in a foreign language (FL) teaching. Integrating culture into the process of language teaching becomes crucial. Utilizing the textbook is one method to incorporate culture into the FL classroom, as it contains cultural material and linguistics.  Limited research has been devoted to pedagogical analysis compared to the extensive concentration on content analysis in ELT textbook studies. The study aims to examine the teachers’ approaches to cultural depictions in an international English for Foreign Language (EFL) textbook, intending to educate students on a global worldview. The present study employed a qualitative research method with a case study design. The study recruited two junior high school English teachers who taught seventh-grade students at a private school in East Java, Indonesia. These teachers had incorporated cultural elements into their teaching. The instruments used to accomplish the research purpose were observation and post-observation interviews. The study's findings have verified that teachers utilized a comparative approach in presenting foreign cultural elements from the supplementary book to enhance English language learning. Exploring the students’ culture and contrasting it with foreign cultures has the potential to inspire greater participation from students in classroom activities. Using this strategy enables students to develop their English language proficiency in both linguistic and cultural aspects.

Abstract

Background: Stunting is a major public health issue in Indonesia, particularly in rural areas where limited access to health information exacerbates the problem. Empowering women through health literacy is essential in addressing stunting and related health risks. Specific Background: In Gedangan Village, Pasuruan Regency, high rates of stunting, poor maternal nutrition, and the prevalence of early marriage have been identified as key challenges. Existing interventions have lacked comprehensive, community-based approaches to stunting prevention. Knowledge Gap: There is a need for scalable models that combine education, digital tools, and community involvement to effectively address stunting at the local level. Aims: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of the SI TUTI (Anti-Stunting Literacy) Based Women's School Program, designed to empower women through education and digital resources to reduce stunting rates. Results: The program involved PKK Cadres, Posyandu, and Aisyiyah Branch Members, with the SI TUTI mini book and ASTUTI application as key tools. Post-training assessments showed a 30% increase in participants' understanding of stunting, with a 95% satisfaction rate regarding educational materials and media. The use of digital tools facilitated improved access to health information. Novelty: This program integrates traditional education methods with digital innovations, offering a replicable model that addresses stunting at the grassroots level, enhancing community engagement through localized content and accessible health literacy tools. Implications: The program demonstrates potential for broader application in similar rural contexts, contributing to the achievement of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals related to public health and well-being. Future efforts will focus on program expansion and continuous evaluation to ensure long-term sustainability and effectiveness in stunting prevention.

Abstract

Traditional approaches often fail to motivate students and cater to diverse learning styles, further compounded by the limited use of modern educational technologies. A community service program was implemented to address these issues, focusing on contemporary teaching models like the Happy Learning approach and the integration of whiteboard animation. This program explores the challenges high school English teachers face in Sidoarjo, Indonesia, concerning student engagement and effective teaching methods. Over one month, 47 high school English teachers participated in workshops and mentoring sessions designed to enhance their skills in these innovative methods. The results showed notable improvements in teachers' confidence and their ability to manage interactive classes. A significant majority found the contemporary models, including Happy Learning and whiteboard animation, to be effective, although some teachers still preferred traditional methods. Whiteboard animation was recognized for its role in clarifying content and engaging students, with many teachers successfully creating their media using various applications. Additionally, teachers preferred integrating game-based learning with whiteboard animation, indicating a shift towards more dynamic and student-centered teaching practices. This program underscores the effectiveness of combining modern teaching models with technology to improve educational outcomes and teacher effectiveness.
