Abstract

Anemia in pregnant women remains a public health problem that impacts both the mother and the fetus. One way to prevent anemia is to regularly consume iron supplements. However, compliance with iron supplementation among pregnant women remains low. The use of information technology through mobile applications offers an innovative alternative for providing prenatal counseling. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of mobile application-based prenatal counseling in improving compliance with iron supplementation among pregnant women. This study used a quantitative design with a quasi-experimental approach. The sample size was 50 pregnant women, divided into an intervention group and a control group. Data were collected using an adherence questionnaire and analyzed using statistical tests. The results showed an increase in compliance with iron supplementation in the group receiving mobile application-based counseling compared to the control group (p < 0.05). The conclusion of this study is that mobile application-based prenatal counseling is effective in improving compliance with iron supplementation among pregnant women.

Abstract

Adolescents in the digital era face opportunities and challenges in maintaining healthy reproductive behavior due to easy access to information and social media influence. This quantitative cross-sectional study surveyed 320 high school students aged 15–19 in Surabaya, Indonesia, using stratified random sampling. Data collected from April–July 2025 via self-administered questionnaires were analyzed with descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, correlations, and logistic regression. The findings showed that 62.5% of adolescents had good reproductive behavior, which was significantly associated with high knowledge (73.3% vs. 36.8%, p < 0.001), positive attitudes (71.4% vs. 45.5%, p = 0.001), strong parental guidance (80.6% vs. 39.3%, p < 0.001), supportive peer influence (73.7% vs. 46.2%, p = 0.002), and controlled digital media exposure (80.0% vs. 41.4%, p < 0.001). Multivariate analysis identified strong parental guidance (AOR = 3.65; 95% CI: 2.12–6.28) and controlled digital media exposure (AOR = 3.21; 95% CI: 1.85–5.58) as the strongest predictors, followed by high knowledge (AOR = 2.45), positive attitudes (AOR = 1.78), and supportive peers (AOR = 1.92). In conclusion, adolescent reproductive behavior is shaped by a combination of individual, family, peer, and digital factors, with parental guidance and digital literacy emerging as the most critical protective elements. Strengthening family involvement and promoting responsible digital engagement are recommended to foster healthy adolescent reproductive behavior.

Abstract

Early marriage remains a significant public health problem in Indonesia, particularly in rural areas. Pregnancy at a young age increases the risk of complications such as anemia, preeclampsia, premature birth, low birth weight (LBW), and even maternal and infant mortality. Lack of knowledge about midwifery care and reproductive health is a major factor in the high risk of these complications. This community service program aims to increase mothers' knowledge and awareness of early marriage through integrated midwifery care education. The program was conducted with 40 pregnant women aged 15–20 years in the target area. Methods used included direct counseling, prenatal care demonstrations, simple antenatal check-ups, educational materials, and evaluation through pre- and post-tests. Results showed a significant increase in mothers' knowledge regarding pregnancy danger signs, nutrition, prenatal care, and the importance of regular check-ups. The average knowledge score increased from 54.2 to 88.5. Eighty-five percent of participants reported behavioral changes in ANC visits and iron tablet consumption. This program has proven effective in increasing the capacity of young mothers to prevent pregnancy complications. Sustainable interventions are essential to minimize the long-term impact of early marriage on maternal and child health.
