Abstract

Dissatisfaction often arises from factors related to workload, with heavy workloads driving employees to consider leaving for other companies. However, highly engaged employees are more likely to contribute positively through ideas and actions, and are more likely to stay with the organization longer. This study investigates the impact of job satisfaction on turnover intention, with employee engagement serving as a mediating variable. A quantitative approach was employed, surveying 315 employees at Company X in Tanjung Morawa, all with 2 to 5 years of service. The results of the mediation analysis using SEM-PLS reveal that employee engagement significantly mediates the relationship between job satisfaction and turnover intention. To reduce turnover intention, organizations should prioritize enhancing employee engagement by improving factors that contribute to job satisfaction.

Abstract

Nurses are health services provider professionals. The work demands have detrimental effects on nurses' physical and mental health, which risk their psychological well-being. The psychologically well nurses will provide high-quality care with implications for patient recovery. Interpersonal relationships with co-workers and superiors influence nurses' well-being. Poor treatment in the work environment (workplace incivility) can cause nurses to be psychologically unwell. However, we do not yet know how workplace incivility affects psychological well-being. This study aims to examine the effect of workplace incivility on nurses' psychological well-being through the mediation of emotional exhaustion. This explanatory quantitative study involved 270 health nurses at Hospital X Medan. We analyzed data using the Structural Equation Model (SEM) with the Smart-PLS program. Results indicated that emotional exhaustion mediated the effect of workplace incivility on nurses' psychological well-being. This study contributes to nurses' well-being intervention, which is influenced by workplace incivility and mediated by emotional exhaustion.

Abstract

Prioritising mental well-being in the workplace helps promote a productive and healthy working environment. Stress is one of the main determinants of mental well-being in employees. Stress caused by daily challenges at work will impact mental well-being. In modern times, there is an increasing acceptance of stressful conditions and mental health issues. Mindfulness is one of the ways to improve mental well-being and buffer stress in employees. This study examines the effect of mindfulness on mental well-being by considering the mediating role of perceived stress in employees working on a shift system. This study is motivated by the high risk of mental health disorders in shift workers due to irregular work patterns, high workload, and lack of recovery time. This study used three psychological instruments: the mindfulness scale (FFMQ), the perceived stress scale (PSS), and the mental well-being scale (WEMWBS), including 540 respondents from company X in Medan City, and using the SEM-PLS 4.0 method. The results showed that mindfulness significantly improved mental well-being (β=.388, p<.005) and reduced perceived stress (β=-.493, p<.005), whereas perceived stress was shown to decrease mental well-being (β=-.174, p<.05). The crucial finding showed that perceived stress was a partial mediator (β=.086, p<.05). Theoretically, this study enriches the literature by confirming the mediating mechanism of perceived stress within the framework of mindfulness and mental well-being, particularly in the underrepresented population of shift workers in previous studies. In practical terms, the results suggest three programme modifications that companies can implement: (1) a corporate well-being programme that includes mental health interventions specifically for shift workers, (2) a mobile application with brief interventions for stress management during shifts, and (3) a shift rotation system tailored to workers' natural productive time tendencies (chronotype).

Abstract

Abstract

Female workers at BNN Aceh face significant challenges in balancing work with household responsibilities, as well as dealing with high work pressure and male dominance in leadership positions. This research aims to analyze the influence of quality of work life on work engagement among women at BNN Aceh, with job satisfaction as a mediating variable. The research uses a quantitative method with a positivist approach, collecting data through research instruments and analyzing it statistically to test the hypothesis. Data analysis is performed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with SmartPLS 3.0 to examine the influence of independent, mediating, and dependent variables. The results show that quality of work life (QWL) does not directly affect work engagement. However, QWL significantly influences job satisfaction. Additionally, job satisfaction affects work engagement and acts as a mediating variable in the relationship between QWL and work engagement. These findings suggest that improving job satisfaction can be an effective way to enhance work engagement among female career workers at BNN Aceh.
