Abstract

The number of Indonesian migrant workers departing from Japan has increased since the COVID-19 pandemic ended. This increase not only benefits the Indonesian people but also presents challenges when Indonesian migrant workers in Japan are repatriated. The main problem is the lack of entrepreneurial competency acquired by repatriated Indonesian migrant workers, which has an impact on unemployment. Therefore, in response to this phenomenon, the Community Service Team held outreach and entrepreneurship training activities for prospective Indonesian migrant workers in Japan to help them develop entrepreneurial planning competencies. The focus of these activities was on obstacles and barriers, financial literacy, and business planning. The results of these activities showed that 80% of participants had ideas for entrepreneurship after returning to Indonesia.

Abstract

Visual symbols in popular culture play a crucial role in conveying ideologies, constructing identities, and representing specific social structures. One of the most consistent symbols in the Digimon anime franchise is the use of goggles—protective eyewear exclusively worn by male protagonists. This article aims to analyze how goggles are represented as a symbol of hegemonic masculinity, a visual signifier of leadership, and a cultural icon within media and fan communities. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach using Roland Barthes’ semiotic theory, supported by R.W. Connell’s concept of hegemonic masculinity. The object of study includes seven main Digimon series, from Digimon Adventure (1999) to Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters (2016). Through narrative and visual observation, the study finds that goggles function as a symbolic marker of leadership, passed exclusively among male characters, and never assigned to female ones. This reinforces a visual and ideological structure that dictates who is deemed worthy of leadership. In popular culture, goggles have become a recognizable icon that transcends the text, manifesting in cosplay, merchandise, and fan art, thereby influencing fans’ social imagination regarding gender and authority. Thus, in the Digimon universe, goggles are not merely an accessory but an ideological device that normalizes masculinity as the default for leadership. This article underscores the importance of reading visual symbols in anime as part of the meaning-making process and the reinforcement of social values within children’s entertainment media.

Abstract

Animated films are part of literary works with a form of postmodern fiction. It is shown that animated films fulfill the requirements as literary works, which are fictitious, medium in language, and aesthetic. As a literary work, animated films have similar structures, such as characters, characterizations, settings, and plot. The purpose of this study is to compare the traces of American and Russian colonialism in both animated films by looking at their elements such as hybridity and mimicry. The research method that will be used in this research is descriptive qualitative. Descriptive research is research that aims to provide (describe) a condition or phenomenon that exists as it is. The shift in the meaning of "war" is shown from the transformation of the first film to the second film. The thing that needs to be raised is that the second film wants to restore the spirit of Japanese society. The identity of the Japanese people who easily rise from adversity is explored again. Another thing is a form of diplomacy with the Russian state. This is considering that Japan and Russia are two countries side by side. The film Jopanni no Shima wants to be a medium for the relationship between the two countries.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the understanding of Japanese work culture among prospective Indonesian migrant workers to Japan who participate in training programs at LPK Wisma Berkah Sejahtera. The focus of the study includes the forms of work culture training provided, the participants’ level of understanding of Japanese work culture values, and the factors that hinder the process of cultural understanding. This research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative methods. Qualitative data were obtained through structured non-participant observation and in-depth interviews with instructors and training participants, while quantitative data were collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire measuring five indicators of Japanese work culture: work discipline, teamwork and communication, politeness and respect, honesty and responsibility, and hard work and dedication. The results indicate that LPK Wisma Berkah Sejahtera has implemented Japanese work culture training in a relatively comprehensive manner through chorei activities, integrated Japanese language learning, interview training (mensetsu), dedicated Japanese culture classes, and interpersonal skills training. The participants’ level of understanding ranges from moderate to good, with the highest levels observed in the aspects of honesty and responsibility, politeness and respect, and teamwork and communication. However, gaps in general understanding of Japanese work culture remain, along with several obstacles, including the predominance of theoretical training materials, language barriers, differences in communication styles, mental and physical preparedness, and limited instructor resources.

Abstract

Music is a branch of art that utilizes sound or sound carriers to convey the works it produces. Although it may appear limited to vibrations or sounds, in reality, the art of music is closely related to human thoughts and emotions. Music has an artistic nature, where the definition of artistic in music is a product of thought transmitted through elements of vibration in the form of frequencies processed by the nerves in the mind into different components. These elements include sound, tone, melody, and pitch.Music encompasses a wide variety of streams or genres, each with its unique characteristics and cultural significance. One notable genre is Dangdut, which is an adaptation of the Malay music stream that has developed rapidly in Indonesia over time. Dangdut has become a significant part of Indonesian culture, often characterized by its rhythmic and melodious elements that appeal to a broad audience. The genre integrates traditional musical instruments with modern sounds, creating a distinctive and captivating style. From a semiotic study perspective, music is rich with signs and symbols that can be analyzed and interpreted. Semiotics, the study of signs and symbols and their use or interpretation, allows us to understand how music can convey meanings and emotions beyond the mere sounds. In society, music can influence various aspects of life, including cultural identity, social interactions, and personal expression. This research focuses on the semiotic analysis of Dangdut music, particularly its presence in Japanese-language songs. The study aims to explore how Dangdut elements are incorporated into these songs and how they convey elements of cheerfulness and joy. By examining the signs and symbols in the music, we can gain insights into how cultural elements are blended and how music serves as a medium for cross-cultural communication.Furthermore, this research highlights the role of music in society, emphasizing its power to bring people together and bridge cultural gaps. Dangdut music, with its lively and engaging rhythm, serves as an example of how music can transcend cultural boundaries and resonate with people from different backgrounds. Through this study, we aim to contribute to a deeper understanding of the cultural significance of music and its impact on human emotions and social interactions.
