Abstract

This study aims to reveal the forms and functions of code-switching and code-mixing in the film Cinta dalam Ikhlas by Fajar Bustomi using a qualitative approach and descriptive-analytical methods. The formal object of this study is the linguistic phenomenon of code-switching and code-mixing. In contrast, the material object is the film Cinta dalam Ikhlas, which narratively displays the reality of a multilingual society in Indonesia's urban religious context. This film was chosen because it reflects the socio-linguistic dynamics of modern society, which often switches languages in informal and formal situations. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that all forms of code-switching and code-mixing found are included in the external category, marked by the presence of switching and insertion of foreign languages, especially Arabic and English, and also Javanese and Sundanese regional languages ?? including internal languages, into the main language, namely Indonesian. The researcher found thirty-two linguistic data, consisting of five external code-switching data and twenty-seven code-mixing data, that appeared in words, phrases, and idiomatic expressions. These findings reflect linguistic practices that not only function as a means of communication but also as a symbol of religious identity, an expression of interpersonal affection, and a reflection of global culture that helps construct the characters, values, and narrative contexts in the film in a holistic and representative manner.

Abstract

This study aims to uncover the deeper meanings embedded in the lyrics of the song “Qolbi Fil Madinah” through Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotic framework and to explore its implications for the daily life of Muslims. The song was chosen due to its rich spiritual content and its strong reflective potential for listeners. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method with a semiotic analysis framework based on Peirce’s triadic model: representamen (sign), object, and interpretant. The findings reveal that the lyrics are filled with religious symbols—such as Madinah, shalawat, the Green Dome, and the figure of Prophet Muhammad SAW. which serve not only as aesthetic elements but also as carriers of moral and spiritual messages. These messages encourage listeners to increase their love for the Prophet, strengthen their spiritual connection, and cultivate noble character in everyday life. The song thus functions not only as entertainment but also as a medium for fostering Islamic character development in a contextual and emotionally resonant manner.

Abstract

This article aims to narrate the position of history in the science of hadith and hadith studies. Hadith is historical evidence of the journey of the Prophet during his life, from the time of prophethood to his death on 11 Hijri. Everything contained in the hadith can be one of the historical sources that are included in primary sources or direct sources. Between the science of hadith and the science of history, there is a relationship that connects each other, with its function to understand past events in the context of Islam during the time of the Prophet Muhammad. The two sciences complement each other in reconstructing important events that occurred during the life of the Prophet Muhammad. As for the science of hadith, historical studies are required to ensure the authenticity of the sanad (chain of narration) and matan (content of the hadith narration). Understanding the relationship between history and the science of hadith requires an in-depth study of the basic concepts of both. It is necessary to describe the meaning of history and hadith, as well as the history of the development of the science of hadith and the recording of hadith. Abstract

This study examines the influence of Akang Arfan Abdullah Syafi'i's interpretation of Sufism within the Judatul Uqba Pesantren in Sukabumi, West Java. The research focuses on how Syafi'i's Sufism has resonated with and attracted a significant following among the local community, encouraging them to engage deeply with Sufi practices in their daily lives. This phenomenon is evidenced by the extensive participation in Sufi recitations and the growth of the Yā Wakῑl congregation across Indonesia. Employing a qualitative descriptive methodology, the study gathers data through observation, interviews, and documentary analysis. Central to Syafi'i's teaching is the concept of 'wushūl'—a spiritual connection to Allah SWT, facilitated through 'dzikr' (remembrance of Allah) and acts of charity. These practices are seen as dual pathways: 'dzikr' connects an individual to Allah (habl min Allah), while charity fosters interpersonal bonds (habl min an-Nās). The balance between these spiritual and social dimensions is posited as crucial for the cultivation of Islamic virtues and the attainment of the 'insān kāmil' or the perfect human being.

This research endeavors to scrutinize the persona, ideologies, and pivotal role of KH. Ruhiat in shaping the intellectual ulama network within the West Java region. Furthermore, it delves into the intricate nexus with the Cipasung Islamic Boarding School, situated in Tasikmalaya, which was founded by KH. Ruhiat. This institution has endured over time, generating a cadre of ulama figures who have made substantial contributions to the dissemination and expansion of KH. Ruhiat’s intellectual legacy. Employing a historical and qualitative framework, this study undertakes the comprehensive exploration of the profound influence and presence of ulama figures, most notably KH. Ruhiat, in the establishment of the ulama network within West Java. Methodologically, the research adopts a case study approach, focusing on the profiling of a prominent ulama figure in West Java. Data collection methods encompass meticulous documentation, astute observation, and in-depth interviews. The findings of this investigation underscore the pivotal role played by KH. Ruhiat in the resistance against Dutch colonialism and in catalyzing nationalistic consciousness among the populace. His endeavors in education and religious advocacy effectively galvanized the community towards the pursuit of Indonesian independence. Notably, KH. Ruhiat assumed a pivotal position in the formation of the ulama-intellectual network in West Java, particularly at the Cipasung Islamic Boarding School. This network was meticulously constructed through genealogical lines of descent, marriage alliances, and scholarly transmission. The architectural framework of the core and satellite boarding schools emerged as instrumental components in the establishment of this extensive network. Furthermore, matrimonial unions among the progeny of ulama, accomplished senior santri, and individuals possessing scholarly acumen emerged as efficacious mechanisms for the consolidation of the ulama-intellectual network

Abstract

This research explores the dynamics of hegemony and resistance in Nawal El Saadawi’s novel Mawtu Ma‘ali al-Waziri Sabiqan through the lens of Antonio Gramsci’s theory of cultural hegemony. The research takes Gramsci’s concepts of ideological domination and counter-hegemonic struggle as its formal object, while the novel serves as the material object. Using a qualitative descriptive approach and a critical reading method grounded in ideological literary theory, this research positions itself within contemporary Arabic literary research that intersects with cultural-political analysis. The findings indicate that power in the novel operates not only through coercive mechanisms but also through ideological consent embedded within social institutions and dominant narratives that regulate behavior, identity, and voice. Resistance emerges as both symbolic and material acts of defiance that challenge the prevailing ideological structures. This research highlights literature as a site of negotiation between power and ideology, offering valuable insight for literary and cultural studies in understanding how texts mediate sociopolitical relations and contestations. ملخص تستكشف هذه الدراسة ديناميكيات الهيمنة والمقاومة في رواية نوال السعداوي "موت معالي الوزيري سابقان" من خلال منظور نظرية أنطونيو غرامشي في الهيمنة الثقافية. تتخذ هذه الدراسة مفهوم غرامشي للهيمنة الأيديولوجية والصراعات المضادة للهيمنة موضوعًا شكليًا لها، بينما تُمثل الرواية موضوعها المادي. باستخدام منهج وصفي نوعي وأساليب قراءة نقدية ترتكز على النظرية الأدبية الأيديولوجية، تضع هذه الدراسة نفسها ضمن البحث الأدبي العربي المعاصر المتقاطع مع التحليل الثقافي السياسي. تشير النتائج إلى أن القوة في الرواية لا تعمل فقط من خلال آليات الإكراه، بل أيضًا من خلال الموافقة الأيديولوجية المضمنة في المؤسسات الاجتماعية والسرديات السائدة التي تنظم السلوك والهوية والصوت. تبرز المقاومة كأفعال تحدٍّ، رمزية ومادية، تتحدى البنى الأيديولوجية السائدة. تُسلط هذه الدراسة الضوء على الأدب كساحة للتفاوض بين القوة والأيديولوجيا، مقدمةً رؤى قيّمة للدراسات الأدبية والثقافية في فهم كيفية توسط النصوص في العلاقات الاجتماعية والسياسية والصراعات Abstrak Penelitian ini mengeksplorasi dinamika hegemoni dan perlawanan dalam novel Mawtu Ma‘ali al-Waziri Sabiqan karya Nawal El Saadawi melalui lensa teori hegemoni budaya Antonio Gramsci. Penelitian ini mengambil konsep dominasi ideologis dan perjuangan kontra-hegemoni Gramsci sebagai objek formalnya, sementara novel berfungsi sebagai objek materialnya. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dan metode pembacaan kritis yang berlandaskan teori sastra ideologis, penelitian ini memposisikan dirinya dalam penelitian sastra Arab kontemporer yang bersinggungan dengan analisis budaya-politik. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa kekuasaan dalam novel beroperasi tidak hanya melalui mekanisme koersif, tetapi juga melalui persetujuan ideologis yang tertanam dalam institusi sosial dan narasi dominan yang mengatur perilaku, identitas, dan suara. Perlawanan muncul sebagai tindakan pembangkangan, baik simbolis maupun material, yang menantang struktur ideologis yang berlaku. Penelitian ini menyoroti sastra sebagai arena negosiasi antara kekuasaan dan ideologi, menawarkan wawasan berharga bagi studi sastra dan budaya dalam memahami bagaimana teks memediasi hubungan dan kontestasi sosiopolitik.

Abstract

Arabic-language wayang orang is a unique form of traditional art adaptation, but academic studies of the narrative structure of this performance are still relatively limited. This study aims to reveal and compare the narrative structures in two Arabic-language wayang orang performance programs through A.J. Greimas' narrative semiotics approach, focusing on the actantial schema that maps the relationships between roles in the storyline. The research method used is descriptive-analytical, with data collection techniques in the form of watching and listening to performance videos, which are then analyzed through the identification of actants such as the sender, subject, object, helper, opponent, and receiver. The results show that the use of Arabic does not change the foundations of Javanese tradition, but forms a more varied storytelling pattern through differences in the relationships between the actants in the two programs. A comparison of the two shows variations in the characters' goals, the intensity of the conflict, and shifts in actantial tension, which produce different narrative nuances even though the objects of their search are similar. Moral and social values are displayed through the characters' journeys and the dynamics of conflict, thus forming a symbolic narrative that remains rooted in the characters of wayang orang. These findings indicate that the adaptation of Arabic creates a hybrid narrative form that enriches the interpretation and meaning of traditional performing arts. The results are expected to serve as an analytical basis for studies.

Abstract

This study responds to the increasing need to renew Islamic instructional methodologies in light of contemporary pedagogical developments and 21st-century competency demands. The contributions of ʿAlī Aḥmad Madzkūr are central to this effort, as he proposes an educational framework that integrates revelation, rational inquiry, and lived experience as the epistemic foundation of Islamic pedagogy. The research examines four principal methods formulated by Madzkūr—exemplary modeling, dialogic learning, problem-solving, and observation combined with experimentation—while situating them in conversation with Western educational perspectives, especially those of Dewey, Kolb, and Bandura. It also analyzes his emphasis on instructional media as tools for clarifying abstract ideas, fostering active engagement, and linking theoretical concepts with practical realities, supported by a reflective-diagnostic evaluation system. Using a library-based research design, the study employs thematic, comparative, and synthetic analyses grounded in Madzkūr’s primary works and current pedagogical discourse. The findings show that his approach is integrative, merging ethical formation, rational development, and empirical inquiry into a unified pedagogical structure. Modeling cultivates moral character, discussion strengthens analytical thinking, observation and experimentation develop scientific habits of mind, and problem-solving enhances higher-order reasoning. Altogether, Madzkūr’s framework aligns with modern educational theories while offering a distinctive spiritual dimension, making it a promising and adaptable model for Islamic education.
