Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to analyze students' computational thinking skills in solving problems in ring theory material and to describe their thinking processes using computational thinking indicators.Methodology – This study engages Mathematics Education students undertaking the Ring Theory course in the even semester of the 2024/2025 academic year at a private university in Medan. This study used a dominant qualitative mixed-methods approach. The research instrument was a computational thinking ability test compiled based on four indicators: decomposition, pattern recognition, abstraction, and algorithmic thinking, as well as an interview guide to explore students' answer processes.Findings – The results showed that students' computational thinking skills were generally in the sufficient category (47%), with 28% in the poor category and 25% in the good category. Students were relatively capable of decomposing problems and recognizing patterns, but still experienced difficulties with abstraction and developing algorithmic solution steps. These findings indicate that integrating computational thinking into ring theory learning can help develop students' analytical and systematic thinking skills.Contribution – Implicitly, this study provides evidence of students' computational thinking profiles in ring theory learning and highlights the importance of integrating computational thinking to enhance analytical and systematic thinking skills in higher mathematics education.

Abstract

Purpose - The purpose of this study is to develop culture-responsive mathematics e-learning by integrating the Sikambang Pesisir Barus tradition into the WordPress platform, creating learning that is contextual, meaningful, and relevant to students' cultural backgrounds.Methodology - This research methodology uses a development research (R&D) design with the Plomp model. The research subjects were students/teachers from MTSN 1 and SMP Muhammadiyah 28 Barus, class VII-A, with 24 and 30 students, respectively. The research procedures include the stages of needs analysis, product design and development, expert validation, limited and field trials, and revisions until a valid, practical, and effective product is obtained. The intervention was carried out through the implementation of learning activities on a WordPress-based e-learning platform containing material on quadrilaterals and triangles. The research instruments included expert validation sheets, implementation observation sheets, student response questionnaires, and mathematical literacy ability tests. Data analysis was carried out descriptively and inferentially through tests of validity, practicality, and effectiveness, including n-gain calculations and analyses of learning completeness and student responses.Findings - The results show that a WordPress-based mathematics e-learning integrated with the Sikambang culture meets the criteria for validity, practicality, and effectiveness. The developed media was considered feasible by experts, easy to use in learning, and received positive responses from students. In addition, students' mathematical literacy improved. It can be concluded that integrating local culture into e-learning can make learning more meaningful and engaging.Contribution- These implications and contributions position WordPress as a viable alternative for driving innovative, contextually relevant learning experiences.

Abstract

Aplikasi Geogebra merupakan suatu aplikasi yang digunakan dalam pembelajaran Matematika. Aplikasi ini memudahkan siswa dalam materi geometri, sistem persamaan linier, persamaan garis, persamaan fungsi kuadrat dan lain-lain. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk memperkenalkan dan mempratekkan secara langsung aplikasi Geogebra kepada siswa pada materi sistem persamaan linier. Kegiatan pengabdian ini dilaksanakan di SMK Negeri 5 Medan. Peserta dalam kegiatan ini adalah siswa kelas X TKRO 3 yang terdiri dari 35 orang siswa. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan pada tanggal 31 Oktober 2022. Kegiatan dalam pengabdian ini adalah penggunaan aplikasi Geogebra dalam pembelajaran Matematika sehingga motivasi belajar siswa meningkat. Hasil dari kegiatan ini diperoleh respon siswa sangat baik dan siswa lebih senang dan tertarik belajar Matematika di kelas. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa aplikasi Geogebra dapat meningkatkan motivasi belajar siswa dalam pelajaran Matematika.

Abstract

Perkembangan teknologi dan inovasi dalam dunia pendidikan menuntut guru untuk terus meningkatkan kompetensi dalam memanfaatkan alat edukasi yang efektif dan inovatif. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan guru-guru MIS Nurul Hidayah Medan dalam menggunakan berbagai alat edukasi untuk mendukung proses pembelajaran yang lebih interaktif dan menarik. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan meliputi pemaparan materi dan demonstrasi penggunaan alat edukasi. Alat edukasi yang diperkenalkan mencakup media pembelajaran visual, audio-visual, alat peraga konkret, serta aplikasi teknologi pendidikan yang sesuai dengan karakteristik siswa madrasah ibtidaiyah. Kegiatan ini diikuti oleh seluruh guru MIS Nurul Hidayah Medan sebanyak 10 orang. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pemahaman dan keterampilan guru dalam merancang dan mengimplementasikan alat edukasi dalam pembelajaran. Para guru mampu mengidentifikasi jenis alat edukasi yang sesuai dengan materi pembelajaran dan karakteristik siswa. Evaluasi kegiatan dilakukan melalui pre-test dan post-test serta pengisian kuesioner kepuasan peserta. Kegiatan pengabdian ini memberikan dampak positif terhadap peningkatan kualitas pembelajaran di MIS Nurul Hidayah Medan, dimana guru menjadi lebih kreatif dan inovatif dalam menyampaikan materi pelajaran kepada siswa. Abstract

Transformasi pendidikan abad ke-21 menuntut guru mampu mengimplementasikan pembelajaran deep learning yang mendorong berpikir kritis, reflektif, kolaboratif, dan pemecahan masalah berbasis teknologi digital. Namun, berdasarkan hasil observasi di madrasah mitra, pemanfaatan teknologi pembelajaran masih belum optimal dan guru masih mengalami keterbatasan dalam mengintegrasikan media pembelajaran interaktif ke dalam proses pembelajaran. Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PKM) ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi pedagogik dan literasi digital guru madrasah melalui pelatihan integrasi ZEP Quiz dalam menyongsong pembelajaran deep learning. Kegiatan dilaksanakan pada 20 April 2026 di MTs Laboratorium IAIN Sumatera Utara dan MA Laboratorium IAIN Sumatera Utara menggunakan pendekatan andragogi dengan metode sosialisasi, pelatihan, praktik langsung, pendampingan, dan evaluasi. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pemahaman guru terhadap konsep deep learning serta keterampilan penggunaan ZEP Quiz sebagai media pembelajaran dan asesmen interaktif. Guru juga mampu menyusun perangkat pembelajaran berbasis deep learning yang terintegrasi dengan teknologi digital. Selain itu, kegiatan ini memberikan dampak positif terhadap peningkatan partisipasi dan motivasi guru dalam mengembangkan pembelajaran inovatif di madrasah. Implikasi kegiatan ini menunjukkan bahwa integrasi ZEP Quiz dapat menjadi alternatif media pembelajaran interaktif yang mendukung pembelajaran yang lebih aktif, kolaboratif, dan bermakna. Dengan demikian, program PKM ini berkontribusi dalam meningkatkan kompetensi guru serta mendukung transformasi pembelajaran berbasis teknologi di lingkungan madrasah.

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the effect of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) learning model on the mathematical communication skills of class XI MAS students at the UNIVA Medan Project, with the help of the FlipHTML5 application. The method used in this research is quasi-experimental with a factorial design. Data collection was carried out through mathematical communication skills tests and statistical analysis to test hypotheses. The results showed that there was a significant increase in the mathematical communication skills of students in the experimental group compared to the control group. The average posttest score for the experimental group was 85.52, while the control group was 78.04. It is indicated that this difference did not occur by chance, but rather was the result of differences in the treatment applied. In addition, the FlipHTML5 application was proven to be effective in improving students' mathematical communication skills with an average score percentage of 73.63% in the experimental class compared to 71.37% in the control class. These results indicate that the use of the FlipHTML5 application in learning with the PBL model makes a positive contribution to improving students' mathematical communication skills.

Abstract

This study evaluates the impact of developing a culturally grounded GeoGebra application on students' mathematical visual thinking abilities. Against the backdrop of a dearth of educational applications catering to local cultures, the research aims to address this gap. The methodology encompasses pre-test and post-test assessments, learning motivation surveys, classroom observations, and interviews with both students and educators. Data analysis reveals a significant enhancement in students' mathematical visual thinking abilities following the utilization of the application, accompanied by an upsurge in their learning motivation levels. These findings are corroborated by classroom observations and interviews, underscoring the application's role in augmenting student engagement and facilitating a more concrete understanding of mathematical concepts. The implications of this study underscore the significance of integrating culturally grounded educational technology to enhance the efficacy of mathematics education within the students' cultural contexts

Abstract

This study aims to explore the influence of Malay culture-based Augmented Reality applications on students' understanding of mathematical concepts. This study uses two Augmented Reality methods: Marker-Based Tracking and Markerless Augmented Reality, to present mathematical materials with a culture-based approach. The Marker-Based Tracking method uses image markers to display virtual objects, while Markerless Augmented Reality utilizes markerless tracking technologies, such as Face Tracking and GPS. The research method involved two classes at MTS EX PGA Univa Medan: class VII-1 as an experimental group using the Malay culture-based Augmented Reality application and class VII-2 as a control group using the Scientific Approach. Data was collected through pretest and posttest consisting of essay questions to measure students' understanding of mathematical concepts. The validity and reliability of the instrument were tested, and data analysis was carried out using SPSS Statistics 26 for normality, homogeneity, and hypothesis tests. The results of the study show that the application of Augmented Reality based on Malay culture has a significant influence on students' understanding of mathematical concepts. The average posttest score of students in the experimental class reached 74.03, higher than 56.00 in the control class. The Independent Sample T-Test confirmed the significance of the results with a value of p = 0.001 (< 0.05), which showed that the use of Augmented Reality applications based on Malay culture was effective in improving the understanding of mathematical concepts.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop a valid, practical, and effective Minangkabau local culture-based Student Worksheet (LKPD) to improve students' mathematical communication skills at SMA Negeri 3 Padang. This study uses the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE development model. The subjects of this study were 32 grade X students of SMA Negeri 3 Padang. Observation sheets, practicality questionnaires, mathematical communication ability tests, and validation sheets were the research instruments. The results showed that the developed LKPD met the valid criteria with an average validation score of 3.65 which is a very valid category, practical with an average practicality score of 3.72 which is a very practical category, and effective with an average N-gain score of 0.74 which is a high category. This LKPD integrates the context of Minangkabau local culture such as the traditional house, songket weaving, and rendang in mathematical materials, especially geometry and linear equation systems. This study concludes that local culture-based LKPD can be an effective alternative teaching material to improve students' mathematical communication skills.
