Abstract

This study explores the role of Islamic education based on Islamic boarding schools in shaping the religious character of students at MA NU TBS Kudus. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were gathered through interviews with eight purposively selected informants, participatory observation, and documentation. The findings reveal that the integration of formal curriculum and pesantren-based religious practices—such as yellow book study, congregational prayers, dhikr, and daily wirid—significantly contributes to students' religious character development. The presence of kiai and teachers as daily role models reinforces students' internalization of Islamic values. Additionally, structured worship routines enhance students' discipline, persistence, and commitment to religious life. Supported by Thomas Lickona’s character education theory and B.F. Skinner’s reinforcement theory, the study concludes that the MA NU TBS Kudus model effectively combines cognitive, affective, and behavioral aspects of religious character education. This integrated approach presents a holistic and replicable framework for other Islamic educational institutions seeking to strengthen students’ moral and spiritual development.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the madrasah's strategy in achieving quality by transforming teachers into architects of the madrasah quality assurance unit. This research approach is qualitative with a case study design. The location of this research is Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Al Falah Sambimulyo Bangorejo Banyuwangi. The researcher is the key instrument in collecting research data. The subjects or informants in this study are the madrasah principal, teachers and committee. The data collection techniques used are participant observation, in-depth interviews, and document studies. This data analysis uses the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana analysis model, namely: data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing/verification. Data validity testing uses credibility, dependability, and confirmability tests. To ensure data validity, data checking is carried out through continuous observation, triangulation, member checking, peer discussion, and checking the adequacy of references. MI Al Falah's journey towards becoming a superior madrasah is driven by three fundamental strategies: Aligning Perceptions of SPMM, Transforming Teachers as Quality Architects, and Implementing SPMM Based on Digital Evidence and a Quality Culture. The successful implementation of this internal quality assurance depends on the collective recognition that SPMM is an agent of change that drives a continuous cycle of quality improvement, not just an administrative unit. Teacher transformation through strengthening pedagogical competencies integrated with quality assurance skills, supported by distributed leadership and a Professional Learning Community (PLC) culture, has transformed quality assurance into a shared responsibility

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology demands a transformation of educational leadership in madrasahs; however, many principals still focus primarily on administrative tasks, resulting in suboptimal technology-based instructional supervision. This study aimed to analyze the role of Digital Instructional Leadership as a new supervision model for developing teacher competence and performance in Islamic junior high schools (Madrasah Tsanawiyah). The study employed a qualitative approach using a case study design at MTsN 7 Banyuwangi. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis involving the principal and ten teachers. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model, including data reduction, data display, conclusion drawing, and verification. The findings revealed that the implementation of Digital Instructional Leadership significantly improved teachers’ professional competence, enhanced the quality of academic supervision, and fostered a more disciplined, transparent, and accountable work ethic. Teachers became more creative in designing digital learning materials, implementing technology-based instruction, and conducting systematic evaluations. These findings indicate that Digital Instructional Leadership transforms academic supervision from a formal administrative activity into an effective professional development strategy that is relevant to the needs of madrasahs in the digital era. The study also highlights the importance of strengthening technology-based leadership policies to sustainably improve learning quality.

Abstract

This study examines the management of artificial intelligence (AI) integration in Islamic Religious Education at madrasahs, focusing on innovation strategies and the strengthening of spiritual values. The study employed a qualitative descriptive approach at MA Al-Amiriyyah Blokagung Banyuwangi. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation involving the headmaster, teachers, students, and pesantren administrators. Data analysis used the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, while data validity was ensured through triangulation and member checking. The findings reveal the formation of an integrative AI-spiritual management model in which AI functions as a supportive educational tool while remaining grounded in Islamic values and ethics. The study also identifies the transformation of teachers into “spiritual-tech educators” who combine digital competence with spiritual responsibility. Furthermore, AI demonstrates a dual impact by improving students’ cognitive understanding and learning engagement while also presenting challenges to spiritual reflection if not properly guided through value-based and ethical educational management strategies.
