Abstract

The development of digital technology has resulted in an increased emphasis on students' academic literacy skills, particularly in the management of scientific references. However, preliminary observations suggest that 80% of students at Patompo University in Makassar are unfamiliar with reference management applications such as Mendeley and continue to use manual methods, which can potentially result in citation errors and plagiarism. A community service programme was implemented in the form of reference management training using Mendeley. The objective of this programme was to improve students' understanding, technical skills, and awareness of academic ethics. The implementation methods employed in this programme comprised lectures, question and answer sessions, simulations, and hands-on practice, with an emphasis on installation, metadata management, automatic citation, and bibliography compilation. Post-training reflections demonstrated that 90% of participating students experienced a significant increase in digital literacy, confidence in using the application, and commitment to its continued use. This finding indicates that practical training is an effective method for cultivating a culture of ethical and responsible scientific writing.

Abstract

The growth of the digital economy brings both challenges and opportunities for regional economic development, especially in areas where infrastructure and human resources are unevenly distributed. This study examines how digital infrastructure and socio-economic factors influence ICT competence, which is a key driver of digital economic progress in Eastern Indonesia. Using data from 13 provinces between 2016 and 2023, the study applied a Fixed Effects Model (FEM) to analyze regional and time-based differences. The results show that Internet access has a strong positive impact on ICT competence, highlighting the critical role of digital infrastructure in boosting participation and reducing the digital gap. Education also plays a significant role, with improved education helping to build digital literacy and better prepare the population for technological change. On the other hand, income does not seem to have a significant effect on ICT competence, suggesting that economic factors are not yet the main drivers of technological skills in the region. Overall, the findings emphasize that digital development in Eastern Indonesia is primarily influenced by the availability of infrastructure and the quality of human resources. To support inclusive and sustainable digital growth, policies should focus on ensuring equal access to the Internet and incorporating digital literacy into education.

Abstract

As a major agricultural commodity in Indonesia, palm oil plays a significant role in economic development, especially in rural livelihood and poverty reduction. However, the current dynamics of palm oil expansion have attracted global attention toward social responsibility and environmental degradation, including gendered impacts that remain underexplored in sustainability narratives. This systematic review examines the incorporation of gender analysis in studies on sustainable palm oil in Indonesia, focusing on conceptual frameworks, methodological approaches, and policy implications. Bibliometric data were retrieved through Publish or Perish (PoP), collecting relevant literature from Scopus and Google Scholar from 2010-2025, complemented by keyword search strings in English and Bahasa Indonesia. For clustering and data visualization, this study employed VoSviewer to visualize and analyze keyword associations, trends, and thematic clusters. Preliminary findings indicate that while the sustainability literature on palm oil is extensive, gender-related studies are limited and often fragmented, with conceptualizations of gender varying from labor to land rights and participation. This study finds a cluster of publications focusing on the solid grounding of a feminist lens, while others pay more attention to gender roles, lived experience, and policy and practices at the regulation level. This review highlights critical gaps in integrating gender perspectives into sustainability initiatives and calls for more nuanced, intersectional approaches to ensure equitable outcomes in the palm oil sector. By synthesizing existing evidence, this study provides insights into strengthening gender-responsive sustainability strategies in Indonesia’s palm oil sector.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors influencing women's employment opportunities in the context of the demographic bonus in South Sulawesi Province. The demographic bonus is characterized by an increasing proportion of the working-age population and is expected to strengthen economic development, particularly through women's active participation in the labor market. Multiple linear regression was used to test the influence of internet access (X1), minimum wages (X2), women's productive age (X3), average years of schooling (X4), access to workforce training (X5), and the gender development index (X6) on women's employment opportunities. The results indicate that internet access, women's productive age, and access to workforce training significantly affect women's employment opportunities in South Sulawesi, while minimum wages, average years of schooling, and the gender development index do not.

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between urbanization and elderly welfare in Indonesia by integrating social, economic, and demographic dimensions, addressing the widely held assumption that urban development automatically enhances the well-being of older populations. Using balanced panel data from 34 Indonesian provinces for the period 2017–2022, obtained from the Indonesian Central Bureau of Statistics and the Ministry of Health, the study employs a dynamic panel model estimated through the Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) to capture short- and long-term effects while accounting for endogeneity. The results indicate that past elderly welfare conditions do not significantly influence current welfare levels. Urbanization is found to have no statistically significant effect on elderly welfare in either the short or long term. In the short term, health facility availability, poverty levels, and the proportion of elderly individuals negatively affect elderly welfare, whereas economic well-being exerts a positive influence. In the long term, economic well-being remains a key positive determinant, while the proportion of elderly individuals continues to have a negative effect. Overall, the findings demonstrate that elderly welfare in Indonesia is shaped primarily by socioeconomic factors rather than by the pace of urbanization. The study contributes original policy-relevant insights by challenging urbanization-centered development strategies and emphasizing the importance of targeted economic empowerment and inclusive social protection systems to improve elderly welfare.
