Abstract

This research aims to develop an Internet of Things (IoT)-based air quality monitoring system using the ESP8266 module along with DHT11 and MQ135 sensors. The system is designed to monitor temperature, humidity, and the concentration of harmful gases in the air, with real-time results accessible through the Blynk application on Android devices. The DHT11 sensor measures temperature and humidity, while the MQ135 sensor detects air quality based on concentrations of harmful gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2) and ammonia. Data from these sensors is transmitted to an IoT platform for real-time display. The research methodology follows a prototype model, starting with planning, system modeling, hardware development, and finally, system testing. During testing, the DHT11 and MQ135 sensors demonstrated accuracy in measuring temperature, humidity, and pollutant levels. Results show that the system functions as expected, with sensors responsive to environmental changes such as increases in temperature or pollutant levels. Additionally, the Blynk platform allows users to monitor air quality remotely and receive notifications if air quality reaches hazardous levels. This system is expected to be applicable in environments that require continuous air quality monitoring, such as hospitals, offices, or other enclosed spaces. The study’s findings indicate that this IoT-based air quality monitoring system effectively detects rapid changes in air quality, contributing to environmental health efforts and raising public awareness about the importance of clean air.

Abstract

The increasing demand for sustainable agriculture in Indonesia and challenges like land scarcity and inefficient resource use have driven interest in innovative farming technologies. This study investigates the comparative effectiveness of an innovative farming-based aeroponic system versus a conventional soil-based system in cultivating green chili. A quantitative experimental design was employed, using IoT-integrated sensors in the aeroponic setup to monitor and control environmental parameters, while the conventional system relied on manual practices. Key growth indicators, including plant height, number of leaves, and wet and dry weight, were measured over a 30-day day. Statistical analysis revealed that the aeroponic system significantly outperformed the conventional system across all parameters (p < 0.05), with dry weight showing the most substantial improvement. These findings underscore the potential of smart aeroponics in enhancing crop productivity and resource efficiency. However, cost, energy dependency, and scalability considerations must be addressed to enable broader adoption. The study contributes to the growing body of evidence supporting precision agriculture as a viable strategy for sustainable food production.

Abstract

Detection of attacks on internet of things (IoT) networks is an important challenge that requires effective and efficient solutions. This study proposes the use of various machine learning (ML) techniques in classifying attacks using unidirectional, bidirectional, and packet features. The proposed methods that implement decision tree (DT), random forest (RF), extreme gradient boosting classifier (XGBC), AdaBoost (AB) and linear discriminant analysis (LDA) work perfectly with all kinds of datasets and includes. It also works very well with data type-based feature selection (DTBFS) and correlation-based feature selection (CBFS). The experiment results show a significant improvement compared to previous studies and reveals that unidirectional and bidirectional features provide higher accuracy compared to packet features. Furthermore, ML models, particularly DT, and RF, have faster computing times compared to more complex deep learning models. This analysis also shows potential overfitting in some models, which requires further validation with different datasets. Based on these findings, we recommend the use of RF and DT for scenarios with unidirectional and bidirectional features, while AB and LDA for packet features. The study concludes that using the right ML techniques along with features that work in both directions can make an intrusion detection system for IoT networks becomes very accurate.

Abstract

The rapid growth of IoT devices has brought significant security challenges, particularly in detecting various types of attacks within heterogeneous network environments. This study explores the effectiveness of data balancing techniques, including Random Undersampling (RUS), Cost-Sensitive Learning (CSL), Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique (SMOTE), and Randomized Combination Sampling (RCS). Feature selection methods, namely correlation (threshold 0.8) and mutual information (top 15 features), were employed to optimize feature sets. The Decision Tree (DT) and Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) classifiers were used to evaluate the performance of balanced datasets. The evaluation metrics included accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, G-mean, and ROC curves. The results revealed that SMOTE and RCS outperformed other balancing methods, with SMOTE achieving the highest accuracy (98.7%) and RCS demonstrating robust G-mean values across both feature selection techniques. DT consistently showed better performance compared to LDA across all metrics, while feature selection significantly improved the classification results, particularly under mutual information criteria. However, the analysis highlighted limitations of LDA in handling imbalanced datasets and high-dimensional features. This study concludes that a combination of advanced data balancing and effective feature selection significantly enhances the accuracy of intrusion detection in IoT networks. Future work will focus on integrating real-time detection systems and exploring hybrid models to further improve the detection of complex attacks in dynamic IoT environments.

Abstract

Electrical energy efficiency is an essential requirement in supporting environmental sustainability. Lamps, as one of the most frequently used electrical devices, contribute significantly to energy consumption in both households and industries. This study aims to design an Internet of Things (IoT)-based current monitoring system for lamps using the Blynk application. The system is built using a NodeMCU ESP8266 as the main controller and a PZEM-004T sensor as a measuring tool for voltage, current, power, and energy. The test results show that the system can operate in real time to monitor electrical parameters and display data through the Blynk application on a smartphone. The measurement accuracy reaches ±3.8%, with influencing factors including voltage stability and internet connection quality. This system has proven effective as an electrical energy monitoring solution that supports energy conservation and electrical safety.
