Abstract

The game of futsal has an important role in improving the body's endurance system, because during the game, players are required to move with high intensity in various directions on the field continuously, which requires optimal physical condition. The FIKK UNM Makassar futsal team has experienced a significant decline in achievement in the past year, so an in-depth study is needed to maintain and improve team performance. This study aims to identify the physical condition of the futsal team based on the standards set by the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI). The research was conducted at the FIKK UNM Makassar field and the Laboratory of the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences. The research sample consisted of all members of the futsal team, as many as 12 people, who participated voluntarily. The measurement instruments used include the Multistage Test to measure cardiorespiratory endurance, Leg Dynamometer to measure leg muscle strength, 50 meter run to measure speed, Shuttle Run Test to measure agility, and Vertical Jump to measure leg muscle explosive power. Data were analyzed using cumulative percentage. The results showed that aerobic endurance was in the good category (66.7%); leg muscle strength in the good category (58.3%); speed in the good category (66.7%); agility in the good category (58.3%); and leg muscle explosive power in the good category (75%). In conclusion, the overall physical condition of the FIKK UNM Makassar team is in the good category, although some physical components require improvement.

Abstract

A This study aims to analyze the impact of grant funding allocations on the performance of athletes from South Sulawesi in preparation for the 2024 National Sports Week (PON XXI) in Aceh–North Sumatra. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach using a case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation from various online news sources, including KONI South Sulawesi. The findings reveal that although a total grant of IDR 31.5 billion was allocated for PON XXI—IDR 17.5 billion for KONI South Sulawesi and IDR 14 billion for the South Sulawesi Youth and Sports Office (Dispora)—athlete performance declined, with South Sulawesi ranking 16th out of 39 provinces. In contrast, during PON XIX in West Java in 2016, a budget of IDR 80 billion resulted in 12 gold medals and a 12th-place finish out of 34 provinces. At PON XX in Papua in 2021, with a budget of IDR 30 billion, South Sulawesi earned 11 gold medals and ranked 11th out of 34 provinces. Several factors were found to affect the effectiveness of grant utilization, including delayed fund disbursement, lack of transparency, and insufficient strategic planning in athlete development and training program implementation. Moreover, weak coordination among local government, KONI, and sports federations led to inefficiencies in the distribution and use of funds. The study concludes that the amount of grant funding does not necessarily correlate with improved athletic performance unless supported by an effective, transparent, and accountable management system.

Abstract

A This study aims to describe the level of tennis playing skills among students of the Department of Physical Education, Health, and Recreation (PJKR) at the Faculty of Sports and Health Sciences, Makassar State University (FIK UNM), specifically focusing on the basic techniques of the forehand drive and backhand drive. It also seeks to analyze the relationship between these skills and students' height. The research adopts a quantitative approach with a descriptive method. The subjects of the study were 30 male PJKR students from FIK UNM who had completed the Tennis course, selected through purposive sampling. To assess the students' forehand and backhand skills, the Hewitt Tennis Test was used. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results showed that students' forehand drive skills (mean score: 20.60) were better than their backhand drive skills (mean score: 14.57). The majority of students demonstrated a "good" level of forehand skill (30%), while for the backhand, most were categorized at "moderate" and "good" levels (33.3% each). Correlation analysis revealed a strong relationship (r = 0.640) between overall tennis skills (forehand and backhand combined) and students' height, with a contribution of 41%. This study highlights the importance of structured and varied training programs, incorporating both physical and mental components, to enhance students' tennis skills.
