Abstract

Objective: This study evaluates the effectiveness of Augmented Reality (AR) and interactive media in improving elementary students’ understanding of abstract science concepts such as the respiratory system, force and motion, and ecosystems in West Java, Indonesia. Novelty: Unlike many studies that focus on technology infrastructure, this research highlights the role of teacher creativity and local relevance, positioning AR as a driver of pedagogical change rather than a mere digital tool. Methods: A mixed-methods design was applied, involving 530 fifth-grade students and their teachers through pre-/post-tests, classroom observations, interviews, and case studies. Results: Quantitative findings showed significant learning gains (average +21.7 percentage points, p < 0.01), with higher AR usage linked to better outcomes. Qualitative data revealed that AR fostered student engagement and reflection, while teachers adopted more facilitative roles. Case studies further indicated that success was shaped by local adaptation and teacher innovation rather than infrastructure alone. Conclusions: The study recommends context-aware AR content, digital pedagogy training, and equitable access policies. AR is affirmed as a transformative paradigm that connects abstract science with meaningful, inclusive, and localized learning experiences.

Abstract

Most students are not skilled in writing scientific arguments, have not expressed opinions accompanied by relevant data, learning uses teacher-centered discussion methods but is still not optimal, and teachers have never applied learning to improve students' argumentation skills. So, an alternative for improving students' argumentation skills is to use the Argument Inquiry (ADI) model, a recommendation for a 21st-century skills inquiry learning model that can improve students' argumentation skills. This research aims to analyze student activities in implementing the Argument-Driven Inquiry (ADI) model using Interactive E-LKPD, to analyze the increase in argumentation skills in students who apply the ADI model using Interactive E-LKPD and students who do not apply the ADI model using E-LKPD Interactive, and to analyze how students respond after learning by implementing the ADI model assisted by Interactive E-LKPD. This research was carried out at Al-Azhar 5 Cirebon Islamic High School. With a class X population, the samples are classes X.3 and X.1. Research on student activities during 3 meetings showed that the experimental class obtained the highest average score in the double-blind peer review syntax. The students' lowest activity during the learning process was the syntax for revising peer review reports. There is a significant difference in the increase in students' argumentation skills for the better after implementing the ADI learning model compared to students who did not apply the ADI learning model. The response of students who applied the ADI model assisted by Interactive E-LKPD showed a positive response

Abstract

This study aims to explore the development of graduate competencies in Islamic universities, the implementation of the Merdeka Belajar (Freedom to Learn) curriculum, and collaboration with the workforce using a qualitative Grounded Theory approach. A multisite study was conducted at State Islamic Cyber University of Syekh Nurjati Cirebon and Islamic University of Bunga Bangsa Cirebon, involving university leaders, lecturers, students, and other stakeholders. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, documentation, and Focus Group Discussions, with triangulation techniques ensuring validity. Data analysis was carried out through open, axial, and selective coding to produce theories relevant to the research context. The findings reveal that both universities have unique approaches to preparing graduates for the workforce. State Islamic Cyber University of Syekh Nurjati Cirebon utilizes laboratory-based programs, fieldwork, and internships in relevant sectors. In contrast, Islamic University of Bunga Bangsa Cirebon emphasizes integrating theory and practice through collaboration with educational institutions and industries. Although the implementation of the Merdeka Belajar curriculum is not yet fully realized, progress has been made in providing flexible course options, community-based projects, and entrepreneurship initiatives. However, budget constraints and the socio-economic conditions of students pose significant challenges to competency development. The study also highlights the importance of strategic collaboration with the workforce to bridge the gap between education and industry needs. Programs such as Student Mobility, internships, and market-driven curricula contribute positively to graduates’ readiness for employment. The transformation of State Institute for Islamic Studies Syekh Nurjati into a State Islamic Cyber University of Syekh Nurjati Cirebon demonstrates significant potential in integrating digital technology to support learning and the creative economy. In conclusion, despite implementation challenges, both institutions strive to enhance their graduates' competitiveness through adaptive curriculum development, industry collaboration, and technology-based competency strengthening. The study recommends strengthening institutional policies and strategic budget management to overcome barriers and maximize students' potential in addressing workforce challenges
