Abstract

The method in data collection uses secondary method by obtaining data through the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS). Data analysis is explained through descriptions measured through 1) Expert labour index. 2) Skilled labour index. 3) Human development index. 4) Productive age worker index. 5) Net income index. This research results in inequality that. 1) West Sumatra Province has higher inequality than North Sumatra Province in Expert Labour. 2) West Sumatra Province has more skilled labour than North Sumatra Province. 3) West Sumatera Province dominates the Human Development Index more than North Sumatera Province. 4) The Productive Age Worker Index is more in North Sumatra Province than West Sumatra Province with the inequality value dominating superior.5) The Net Income Index in North Sumatra Province is superior to West Sumatra Province. Researchers suggest the government to be more responsive related to inequality and community welfare, especially in direct policies.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of changes in the inflation rate and unemployment rate on the rate of economic growth in the province of North Sumatra over a 10 year period. The technique for collecting data is secondary methods through the Indonesian Central Statistics Agency. The method used to test the relationship between the independent variable and the dependent variable is the classic SPSS assumption test with multiple linear regression measurements. This research resulted in 1) The inflation rate during the research period did not have a significant effect on changes in the rate of economic growth. 2) The changing unemployment rate also does not have a significant influence on changes in the level of economic growth in North Sumatra. The author hopes that further research can further increase assumptions and knowledge, especially variables that can explain the influence of inflation and unemployment rates on more recent levels of economic growth.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of education and unemployment on poverty across Indonesia’s 34 provinces from 2018 to 2023, with the Human Development Index (HDI) serving as a mediating variable. Using secondary panel data and employing path analysis within a fixed effect model framework, the research explores both direct and indirect relationships among variables. The results indicate that unemployment significantly and negatively affects HDI, while education significantly and positively influences HDI. Furthermore, HDI has a significant negative impact on poverty, demonstrating its mediating role in reducing poverty through improvements in education. However, education does not directly influence poverty in a statistically significant manner. In contrast, unemployment directly and positively influences poverty levels. The Sobel test confirms that HDI significantly mediates the effect of education on poverty, but does not mediate the relationship between unemployment and poverty. These findings suggest that enhancing human capital through education can reduce poverty indirectly by improving HDI. However, addressing unemployment requires targeted labor market interventions, as improvements in HDI alone are insufficient to mitigate poverty caused by joblessness. The study underscores the importance of integrated policy approaches that simultaneously enhance education quality and employment opportunities to effectively reduce poverty and promote inclusive development in Indonesia.
