Abstract

This study aims to assess the level of technical efficiency in organic caisim (mustard green) farming and identify the socio-economic factors influencing it among farmers in the Organic Farming Group of Sumberejo Village, Batu City. Technical efficiency is a crucial indicator for optimizing input use in agricultural production, yet it remains underexplored in the context of organic vegetable farming. The research employs the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method using the Variable Return to Scale (VRS) input-oriented model to evaluate technical efficiency, while Tobit regression is utilized to examine the determinants of efficiency levels. Results indicate that the average technical efficiency score among respondent farmers is 0.737, suggesting suboptimal input utilization and room for improvement in production practices. The Tobit regression results indicate that age has a negative and significant impact on technical efficiency. This suggests that older farmers are less likely to adopt innovative or adaptive farming practices, which can limit their ability to optimize input use. In contrast, farming experience shows a positive and significant effect, reflecting the value of accumulated practical knowledge and improved decision-making in managing resources efficiently. Meanwhile, education level and household size do not exhibit a significant influence on technical efficiency. This finding implies that, in the context of small-scale organic farming, formal education may not be as critical as experiential learning, and a larger household does not necessarily enhance labor productivity without effective role distribution and management. The study is limited to a localized farming group and a specific organic crop, warranting broader investigations for general applicability. Nevertheless, it offers valuable insights into technical efficiency in sustainable farming practices.

Abstract

The price volatility of broiler chicken, a strategic food commodity in Indonesia, becomes a critical issue that escalates significantly during each Ramadan period. This annual phenomenon negatively impacts consumer purchasing power and the sustainability of culinary MSMEs. This study aims to analyse the patterns and measure the persistence level of broiler chicken price volatility to understand the market dynamics during this high-demand period. Using weekly time-series data from the National Strategic Food Price Information Centre (PIHPS) from March 2017 to April 2023, this research applies the Generalised Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedasticity (GARCH) model. The analysis begins with the ADF stationarity test, the ARMA model identification, and the ARCH effect test to validate the use of the GARCH model. The results show that the price data is stationary at the level and exhibits a significant ARCH effect. The GARCH (1,1) model was selected as the best fit for capturing volatility dynamics. The estimation results indicate the presence of volatility clustering with a high degree of persistence (α + β = 0.743). The larger GARCH coefficient (β = 0.485) compared to the ARCH coefficient (α = 0.258) shows that past volatility has a stronger effect on current price changes than new events do. A high level of persistence implies that a price shock will not dissipate quickly, suggesting that reactive, short-term stabilisation policies are likely to be less effective.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the integration of the Arabica and Robusta coffee markets in Indonesia with world coffee prices. The study uses secondary data in the form of annual time series data during the period 1985 - 2015. The study uses the VECM analysis method. This method explains the relationship of long-term dynamic equilibrium and short-term equilibrium in a system of equations. The analysis shows that Indonesian and world Arabica coffee is not integrated in the long term or the short term. In Robusta coffee VECM estimation analysis shows that there is a significant value at the 10% level in a long-term relationship with a value of 0.08579, which means that there is a short-term relationship between world Robusta coffee prices and domestic Robusta coffee prices in the previous year, but no relationship in the long run.

Abstract

Abstract
