Abstract

The young generation plays a crucial role in combating corruption; however, their engagement is suboptimal due to insufficient ethical awareness regarding corruption issues and challenges in differentiating between corruption within governmental systems and public services. This research aims to investigate the civic responsibilities of the youth in the anti-corruption movement. The research method employed is qualitative, using an ethnographic approach. This study's findings indicate that civic responsibility manifests in two dimensions: citizen engagement and citizen participation in addressing and eliminating corruption within educational, social, legal, and religious contexts. The youth significantly contribute to the conservative anti-corruption movement by fostering and reinforcing moral, spiritual, cultural, and civic values within an environment that cultivates and shapes the attitudes and behaviours of active, creative, and innovative individuals in the battle against corruption. Consequently, it can be inferred that this conservative anti-corruption initiative aims to cultivate character and integrity among youths through extensive campaigns, promotions, counselling, and mentoring.

Abstract

This study examines the judicial considerations in granting underage marriage dispensations at the Religious Court of Sumbawa, Indonesia, a region where early marriage persists despite national legal reforms. The research aims to understand how judges interpret the principle of the child's best interest within a socio-religious legal context. Using a qualitative socio-legal approach, data were collected through courtroom observations, document analysis, and in-depth interviews with judges and petitioners. Findings indicate that although the number of applications has declined between 2022 and 2024, the approval rate remains above 95%, reflecting the powerful influence of social pressures, religious morality, and pragmatic reasoning. Judges frequently invoke maslahah (public good), emotional maturity, and family consensus to justify approval, often prioritizing immediate social stability over long-term child welfare. Judicial reasoning tends to be dialogic and compassionate, but procedural inconsistency and the absence of post-decision support compromise the protective aims of the law. The study highlights the role of legal pluralism in shaping judicial discretion, where Islamic and statutory principles coexist and sometimes conflict. It calls for institutionalizing child-centered procedures, standardized psychosocial assessments, and follow-up mechanisms. These findings contribute to the growing body of literature on child marriage, legal reform, and the role of religion in family law adjudication in Southeast Asia

Therefore, the role of community and government institutions is needed to provide complete protection to realize human rights. The role of NGOs in advocating for street children in dealing with the law maximized. The productivity of legal aid institutions has resulted in various forms of legal assistance to street children involved in criminal acts; besides, aid is also in developing interests and talents of street children. The condition is that government assistance is needed to provide a particular budget for NGOs so that the process of advocating for street children carried out correctly. An evaluation of the role of NGOs in advocating for street children requires an in-depth study of other aspects.

Abstract

This study investigates the systemic neglect experienced by children of Indonesian migrant workers through the lens of the SCII (Societal, Community, Institutional, Individual) strategy. Despite the economic benefits of labor migration, an estimated 11,732 children in East Lombok remain in vulnerable caregiving arrangements, often overseen by elderly or extended family members. Using an empirical juridical method, data were collected from March to July 2025 through semi-structured interviews, field observations, and document analyses involving seven key informants, including government officials, caregivers, and child protection advocates. The findings reveal a 70% gap between national child protection mandates and local enforcement. For example, only two of ten migrant-sending villages possess local regulations addressing the welfare of left-behind children. Cultural norms such as begawé (communal work) and saling jaga (mutual care) create informal safety nets but also obscure neglect and discourage reporting due to respect for kinship hierarchies. Institutional actors such as schools and health centers remain underutilized; 80% of teachers interviewed lacked standard procedures to identify or report neglect cases. The study highlights SCII’s potential to integrate formal legal mandates with community-based practices and concludes that a pluralistic, multilevel, and context-sensitive protection model is essential to ensure accountability and sustainability in safeguarding migrant workers’ children.

Abstract

Community Empowerment in Sekotong Barat through Membrane Bioreactor Technology for Wastewater Treatment into Clean Water Abstract This community service program aimed to improve the knowledge, technical skills, and self-reliance of the Sekotong Barat Village community in wastewater treatment through the application of Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) technology. The main problems faced by the community partners were water pollution caused by traditional gold mining activities, limited technical capacity in wastewater treatment, and the absence of a village-owned enterprise-based model for treated water management. The program employed a Participatory Technology Transfer approach through workshops, training, hands-on practice, intensive mentoring, and participatory evaluation. The partners involved included the PKK group of Sekotong Barat Village, BUMDes Gita Nada, the village government, youth organizations, KKN-PMM students, and affected community members. The results indicated that the training and mentoring improved participants’ knowledge and technical skills. Before the program, most participants were unfamiliar with MBR technology, whereas after the program all participants understood the concept and function of MBR, and most were able to try or operate the equipment independently. The average competency score increased from 57.35 in the pre-test to 85.45 in the post-test and showed a statistically meaningful difference based on the paired sample t-test reported in the methods and results sections. Regarding water quality, 15 out of 20 participants were able to produce preliminary treated water that appeared visually clearer based on the initial visual indicators, namely color, odor, clarity, and reduced suspended particles. However, the water quality evaluation in this program did not yet refer to clean water quality standards because laboratory testing of pH, TDS, turbidity, BOD/COD, mercury/heavy metals, and microbiological parameters had not been conducted. Therefore, the treated water cannot yet be declared suitable or safe for community use before further testing is performed. BUMDes demonstrated initial readiness to support program sustainability, but further strengthening is required in terms of SOPs, operators, operational costs, distribution mechanisms, and legality. This program indicates that the integration of MBR technology, participatory training, student mentoring, and village institutional strengthening has the potential to serve as an initial model of community empowerment based on appropriate technology.
