Abstract

A series of alumina supported cobalt and chromium catalysts with different metal loadings were prepared by impregnation method. Six types of alumina supported cobalt and chromium catalysts contained 5 wt%, 10 wt%, and 15 wt% loadings were produced and tested in methane oxidation. The catalysts were characterized by using x-ray diffraction (XRD) and carbon monoxide chemisorption (CO chemisorption). The XRD results do not confirmed any features of cobalt and chromium metal. The metal sizes for both catalysts were larger in high loading as shown by CO chemisorption results. Methane conversion results showed that the conversion increases with increasing the metal loading, however supported chromium catalysts were higher in activities compared to supported cobalt catalysts. Thermal stability tests on 15 wt% Co/Al and 15 wt% Cr/Al catalyst showed that supported chromium catalyst is more stable and maintain the particle size due to its strong interaction with support, while supported cobalt catalyst decrease in methane conversion due to deactivation of the catalyst. Copyright © 2020 by Authors, Published by BCREC Group. Abstract

Waste generated by households can have economic value using the 3R method by the TPS. TPS-3R of the Maju Jaya Self-Help Group (KSM) is a pilot TPS in household waste management in Talang Kelapa Village, Alang-alang Lebar Subdistrict. The products produced are compost, liquid organic fertilizer and handicrafts from used goods. The obstacle faced is ineffective and efficient marketing. This is due to not having the correct label and ineffective marketing. So that assistance is needed in making product labels to be attractive and training in making websites to expand the marketing of processed waste products from TPS-3R KSM Maju Jaya. From the results of this activity, TPS-3R KSM Maju Jaya was able to create a logo that presented the values of TPS-3R KSM Maju Jaya and produced a more attractive product label. In addition, TPS-3R Maju Jaya has a website to increase sales of its products.

Abstract

Indonesia as a large population country has the potential to become one of the largest consumers of sugar in the world. Indonesia's national sugar needs amounted to 3.2 million tons per year while domestic production was around 2 million tons. In the sugar industry, the benefits of evaporator tools are to thicken clear juice whose dissolved solid number is 7 - 11 oBrix into a thickened syrup with a dissolved solid of 55 - 60 oBrix, this process occurs through the process of evaporation of water content contained in the material. In one sugar factory, the type of evaporator used is a Semi-Kestner Evaporator with the quintuple effect principle. One of the biggest challenges of evaporators is the decrease in heat value of the evaporator due to the onset of mineral crust that inhibits heat transfer. On September 7th, 2021 Q evaporator 1 is at 135874.8 Kw and on October 26th, 2021 Q evaporator 1 is at 121399.2 Kw. Based on the results of data observations on the evaporator carried out in September 2021 and October 2021, it can be concluded that the decreased heat transfer will cause the evaporator's performance in evaporating water from the sap material (clean juice) so that the material flow rate is getting bigger. Efforts that can be made to overcome this are to carry out mechanical cleaning or chemical cleaning per 28 days of the grinding process, to remove crusts on the tube calandria evaporator.

Abstract

Perilaku Hidup Bersih dan Sehat (PHBS) adalah upaya yang dilakukan individu atau masyarakat dalam upaya membuat kesehatan menjadi lebih meningkat agar terhindar dari penyakit. Dillingkungan sekolah perilaku ini dilaksanakan oleh siswa, tenaga pendididik atau guru, karyawan dan masyarkat yang melaksanakan proses pembelajaran di sekolah. Di SMA Negeri I Tanjung Raja pelaksanaan PHBS belum dilaksanakan dengan baik, misalnya perilaku mencuci tangan dengan menggunakan sabun belum merupakan suatu kebiasaan, sampah tidak dibuang pada tempatnya. Hal ini menimbulkan terjadinya beberapa kasus kejadian penyakit antara lain diare, cacingan, typoid dan lain lain. Pengabdian masyarakat ini diharapkan memberi pengetahuan tentang perilaku hidup bersih sehat pada siswa untuk meningkatkan derajat kesehatan di SMA Negeri 1 Tanjung Raja. Penggunaan metode dalam pengabdian masyarakat  ini adalah deskriptif kuantitatif serta teknik yang digunakan  survei lapangan yang melibatkan guru dan siswa.

Abstract

The waste problem is never solved. The increase in the amount of waste every day is following the rate of population growth and activities carried out by the community. Tanjung Raja is the oldest district in Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra, Indonesia. One of the educational facilities in Tanjung Raja is SMA Negeri I Tanjung Raja. Related to school environmental problems, especially to reduce the waste that will be brought to the Landfill, SMA Negeri I Tanjung Raja has not done waste sorting. During this time the garbage collected in the place that has been provided according to its designation will be thrown into the Temporary Landfill. Based on the results of observations and interviews with partners, the PKM activities that will be carried out are processing waste generated from school activities. The activity will be done by sorting the resulting waste, then continued by making compost from the leaves produced in school and also other organic waste into compost. PKM devotional activities have produced compost products from organic materials. Partners have come up with solutions to address the waste generated from daily activities and fallen leaves. The compost produced is economically valuable. This activity can overcome the problem of waste in schools and is also useful in preserving the school environment.

Abstract

Jumlah minyak goreng bekas pemakaian semakin bertambah seiring aktivitas kegiatan manusia. Minyak goreng bekas yang dibuang secara langsung ke lingkungan akan memberikan dampak buruk bagi kesehatan dan penurunan kualitas lingkungan hidup, oleh karena itu perlu adanya pemanfaatan minyak goreng bekas dengan cara pemurnian atau purifikasi sehingga minyak goreng bekas tersebut dapat digunakan kembali. Pada penelitian ini, digunakan minyak goreng bekas yang telah digunakan dengan lama pemanasan 3 jam, 5 jam, dan 7 jam. Minyak goreng bekas tersebut dimurnikan dengan menggunakan karbon aktif yang dibuat dari ampas tebu ukuran 100 mesh dengan variasi berat 2,5 gr, 5 gr, dan 7,5 gr, lama waktu perendaman 24 jam, 48 jam, dan 72 jam. Analisa yang digunakan adalah analisa kadar air, kadar asam lemak bebas (free fatty acid), dan angka penyabunan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kadar air dan angka penyabunan menurun siring dengan lamanya waktu perendaman dan berat karbon aktif. Kadar asam lemak bebas yang paling rendah dihasilkan pada penggunaan berat karbon aktif 7,5 gr dan lama perendaman 24 jam.

Abstract

Garbage is part of life on this earth and the amount is increasing along with increased human activity. The amount of waste disposed of in landfills is increasing as human activities increase. Al Fath Talang Keramat Islamic Boarding School in Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra is one of the educational facilities which has 118 students, with a total of 17 administrators. This Islamic boarding school already has good environmental management but there has been no effort to reduce the amount of waste that will be taken to the TPA. The purpose of this community service activity is to make the Islamic boarding school environment more environmentally sound towards Green Islamic Boarding Schools by involving students and Islamic boarding school caretakers (partners) as actors. Partners will have the ability to sort and manage waste and are expected to have economic value and be sustainable. The service method is carried out in several stages. The implementation stage begins with outreach to partners. The next stage is to conduct waste sorting training based on the types of organic and inorganic waste. Furthermore, training on making invitation words is carried out. The mentoring method is carried out for students who have attended socialization and training as many as 10 students. This community service activity has had an impact on knowledge and behavior change for students and pesantren administrators. Partners have acquired skills in sorting and processing organic and inorganic waste, and making waste of economic value. This can be seen from the results of evaluations with partners, who previously did not know anything about the problem of waste management, and after the activities were able to properly manage waste in the pesantren environment. This has an impact on the pesantren environment which will slowly move towards green pesantren as expected. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the service activities carried out by the PKM team have been carried out well.

Abstract

Waste cooking oil is one of the B3 wastes produced by industrial or household activities. Since this waste cooking oil will cause pollution to the environment, hence it cannot be disposed directly into the environment. Reuse of this cooking oil through a refining process is an alternative way to reduce the amount of waste cooking oil. This study aims to determine the effect of sulfuric acid (H2SO4) as an activator and the effect of contact time on water content, free fatty acid levels, and saponification levels. In this study, we used waste cooking oil that has been heated for 9 hours and 11 hours. The mass of activated carbon used was 7.5 gr, 12.5 gr and 14.5 gr, and the contact times were 9 hours, 120 hours and 144 hours. The results showed that the lowest water content was 47,81% achieved by waste cooking oil heated for 11 hours and 14,5 gr of activated carbon, whereas free fatty acid was reduced until 29,7% on waste cooking oil heated 9 hours and 14,5 gr of activated carbon.

Abstract

Masalah sampah timbul dengan adanya peningkatan timbulan sampah sebesar 2-4% pertahun, namun belumdiimbangi dengan dukungan sarana dan prasarana penunjang yang optimal yang memenuhi persyaratan teknis.Undang-undang No. 18 Tahun 2008 tentang Pengelolaan Sampah. Kebijakan tentang penetapan daerah percontohanuntuk pengelolaan sampah melalui metode 3R (reduce reuse recycle) melalui bank sampah telah ditetapkanKementrian Lingkungan Hidup Republik Indonesia Nomor 13 Tahun 2012. Kota Palembang adalah salah satu darikota terpilih yang akan mengembangkan sistem sanitasi kota dan dampak yang secara langsung terjadi adalahperubahan pola hidup masyarakat yang di rumahnya ada instalasi sanitasi. Masyarakat harus mengelola sampah yangdihasilkan sehari-hari karena pipa saluran sanitasi tidak boleh menajdi tempat pembuangan sampah padat. Sampahcair yang boleh dibuang pada saluran pipa ini pun terbatas , dimana cairan mengandung lemak/minyak juga dilarangdibuang pada saluran pipa sanitasi. Sampah yang dihasilkan oleh masyarakat kelurahan 19 Ilir Kecamatan Bukit Kecilini rata-rata sebesar 1,7 kg/KK. Hal ini menjadi pemicu terbentunya Bank Sampah Kenanga yang berada di Kelurahan19 ilir. Penjualan produk berbahan baku sampah sudah dilakukan Bank Sampah Kenanga secara langsung denganpengumpul. Hasil kegiatan PKM ini berupa model bisnis bank sampah untuk peningkatan produksi bank sampah danalat pirolisis plastic yang diberikan kepada masyarakat.

Abstract

The amount of used cooking oil is increasing along with human activities. Used cooking oil that is disposed directly into the environment will give a negative impact on health and the quality of the environment, therefore it is necessary to purify the used cooking oil so that the used cooking oil can be reused. In this study, used cooking oil that has been used with heating time of 3 hrs, 5 hrs, and 7 hrs was used. The used cooking oil was purified using activated carbon made from 100 mesh bagasse with variations in weight of 2.5 g, 5 g, and 7 g, soaking time of activated carbon in used cooking oil were 24 hrs, 48 ​​hrs, and 72 hrs. The analysis used is the analysis of water content, free fatty acid content, and the amount of saponification. The results showed that the water content and saponification rate decreased with the length of contact time and the weight of activated carbon. The lowest free fatty acid content was produced when using activated carbon 7.5 g and contact time for 24 hrs.
