Abstract

Writing is a form of communication between the writer who express the idea and the reader who comprehends what they read. However writing is a very difficult and complex process. It requires some important skills to make the sentence which clear and acceptable. Nowadays, the use of social media for learning is a new phenomenon. One of the social media is Instagram. Instagram is a social network based on sharing pictures and videos which can be posted to other social media sites. Instagram has also many features that can be useful for students. This research aimed to analysis students’ perception toward Instagram using in learning writing. The research design was descriptive qualitative. The respondents were 20 students in SMK PGRI 2 Giri Banyuwangi which determined by using purposive sampling. The data were taken by using questionnaire and interview. The data from questionnaire analyzed Likert Scale, while the data from interview by interviewed. The respondents for questionnaire were 20 respondents, while interview were 3 respondents. The data analysis was determined based on theory of five indicators. The percentage results of indicator are sharing information (66%), social interaction (66%), communicative utility (68%), self-expression (69%), and entertainment (66%). Analysis of interview by 3 respondents by English teacher, they agree that Instagram become media for support learning writing. Based on the result above, it was concluded that students and also teacher agree using Instagram for learning writing.

Abstract

Minister of education recognize the important of English learning to convey ideas out of Indonesia and to absorb external ideas that can be useful for the nation and state. To face it, the curriculum makes English learning as one of the materials in senior high school. Using text in learning process too much makes the students bored and the learning process becomes less interesting. This research was intended to describe the song comprehension of the eleventh grade students at MA Al-IMAROH Wongsorejo in the2019/2020 academic year. The Research design used in this research is descriptive quantitative.The total populations are 54 students. The researcher used one class of the Eleventh grade students at MA AL-IMAROH Wongsorejo in the 2019/2020 academic year by purposive sampling. The number of samples are 28 students from IPA. The data in this research was collected by giving two tests. The tests used in this research are listening test and essay test. This research used quantitative data. The reseacher showed that the average of song comprehension in MA Al Imaroh 68 which are categorized as enough. The vocabulary comprehension and reading comprehension were analyzed statistically in precentage. The precentage of vocabulary comprehension is 75 % and the precentage of reading comprehension is 59%.Based on the result of data analysis of song comprehension, the teacher could know the student’s ability in song comprehensions which is categorized as bad. Because of the students‟ song comprehension which is categorized as bad, the teacher should search the way to optimize the learning media and material. However the song comprehension now becomes one of the materials in curriculum 2013.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to know whether the students taught by using Contextual Redefinition Strategy get better on Reading Comprehension of Descriptive text score. This reserach was an experimental research. The type of the research was a pre experimental reserach. The researcher used one group pretest and posttest design. The respondents of this research was 21 students. Before giving the treatment, the students were given pre-test, and post-test was given after the treatment. The technique of collecting data was a test. The technique of data analysis was T-test formula in order to know the difference between the average of posttest of experimental class and pretest of experimental class. After having calculated the T-test. T-test was anlyzed and interpreted with the degree of significances 5% with db = 19 and the T-table is 2,093. The results of T-test analysis is 9,96. It means that the T-test ( 9,96 ) is higher than T-table ( 2,093 ) in the significances 5%. From the research finding, it can be concluded that the students taught by using contextual redefinition strategy get better score on reading comprehension of descriptive text. It is suggested for the teachers and the students to use this strategy in teaching reading comprehension because this strategy is very useful to improve students vocabulary. For further researcher to conduct further research on similar area by improving the methodology.

Abstract

The objective of the research is to know whether the students taught by using WhatsApp group get better descriptive text writing score. The research design of this research was pre-experimental research. The respondents of this research were the tenth grade students of TKJ class at SMK Al-Achyar, consisting of 19 students. To collect the data the researcher used test as the instrument. The data were collected through writing test. The test was given before and after the treatment. Abstract

Speaking is an important things in interaction, and speaking English is very important to learn to communication when people from the different nations meet. This research aimed to find the type and the dominant barriers in speaking English learning at Senior High School in Songgon Sub-district. The research design was descriptive qualitative. The respondent were 160 from three school in Songgon Sub-district, they are 69 respondent from MA Alfatah, 17 respondent from SMA 4 Muhammadiyah, and 74 respondent from SMK Nurut Taqwa which determined by using cluster sampling. The data were taken by using online system of questionnaire and interview. The data from questionnaire was analyzed by using Likert scale. The data analysis was determined based on theory linguistics barrier and non-linguistic barriers. Analysis questionnaire and interview data showed that students at Senior high school In Songgon sub-district have high Barriers in speaking English learning. The type of barriers had by students showed the percentage score of each indicator are 66% in speaking barrier, 57% in lack of vocabulary, 65% poor in grammar, 64% poor in pronunciation, 71% in lack of motivation, 62% in fear of mistake, 61% in anxiety, 65% in lack of confidence, and 57% in shyness. The most dominant barriers had by students are poor in grammar from linguistic factor and lack of motivation from non-linguistic factor.

Abstract

Code switching and code mixing are phenomenon of bilingualism that are used in speech community. The goals of this research were to identify the types, to find out the most dominant type, and to analyze the reasons focused on code switching and code mixing found in Aku Juga Tak Sempurna episode on Perspektif Metro TV. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The data were classified based on Hoffman theory. Then, converting the number of types of code switching and code mixing by using Walizer formula. The analyzed method followed Mile and Huberman. The classifications of code switching occured 79 times, including: 70 data (88,6 %) of inter sentential switching, 7 data (8,8 %) of emblematic switching, and 2 data (2,5 %) of establishing continuity with the previous speaker. So the most dominant type of code switching is inter sentential switching. Moreover, the classification of code mixing occured 150 times, including: 120 data (80 %) of intra sentential mixing, 23 data (15,3 %) of intra lexical mixing, and 7 data (4,6 %) of involving a change of pronunciation. So the most dominant type of code mixing is inter sentential mixing. Then, the highest reason showed talking about a particular topic were 168 data. The intention of clarifying the speech content for interlocutor and expressing group identity had the same result, they reached 16 data. Showing empathy about something were 11 data. Quoting somebody else, interjection, and repetition used for clarification had the same result, they reached 6 data.

Abstract

English is important language to communicate with the foreign guests who stay at the homestay. This research aimed to describe how the Homestay hosts interest in learning English at Tamansari tourism village. The research design was descriptive qualitative. The respondents were 22 homestay hosts in Tamansari tourism village which determined by using purposive sampling. The data were taken by using questionnaire and interview. The data from questionnaire was analyzed by using Likert scale. The data analysis was determined based on theory of interest with four indicators. They are attention, participation, willingness, and feeling need. Analysis questionnaire and interview data showed that homestay hosts in Tamansari tourism village have high interest in learning English and the index percentage was 74%. It consists of attention level 78%, participation level 64%, willingness level 71%, and feeling need level 74%. Therefore the homestay hosts in Tamansari tourism village need English as communication medium with the foreign tourists. On the other case, there were some problems faced by the homestay hosts that are pronunciation, lack of time, lack of partner to learn, fluctuation of foreign tourists visit, and low awareness to learn made them practice English less maximal.

Abstract

The use of Youtube app among young learners has become a phenomenon. Obviously, watching YouTube videos is not always a bad thing. If the teachers and the parents lead them on selective topic watched like on vocabulary topics, it will have a positive impact on kids’ vocabulary mastery. This research aims to investigate whether there is any effect of English Singsing YouTube channel on the vocabulary mastery of the 2nd grade students of SDN Kepatihan. The pre experimental research design was employed with 29 respondent of 2nd grade were involved. Multiple choice test is chosen for the data collecting method that consist 20 questions of concrete nouns for the test. For the data analysis is used t-test formula. The researcher found that there is enhancement on the post-test. The mean score was 61,72 in the pre-test and 87,06 in the post-test. The result of t-test is higher than t-table (12,87 > 1,70). The researcher concluded that there is significant effect of English Singsing YouTube Channel on the Vocabulary mastery of the 2nd grade students of SDN Kepatihan Banyuwangi.

Abstract

The coffee industry in Banyuwangi has a rich history, dating back to Dutch colonial rule. Despite its prominence, coffee farmers, especially the Tunas Harapan farmer group in Gombengsari, face significant challenges in post-harvest coffee handling, particularly in drying methods. Traditional sun-drying methods employed by the farmers are inefficient and fail to meet market standards, leading to reduced product quality. To address this issue, this community engagement project introduced the Solar Hybrid Dryer (SHD) technology, a sustainable drying method combining solar and electric heating. The project involved designing and constructing SHD units integrated with IoT systems for real-time monitoring and control. Additionally, solar panels were installed to provide renewable energy for the system, minimizing operational costs. Training sessions were conducted for 15 members of the Tunas Harapan group, focusing on post-harvest coffee handling and the use of SHD technology. The training aimed to improve farmers' knowledge and skills, enhancing the quality of their coffee products. The SHD technology proved effective, reducing drying time from 15 days to 5 days while maintaining the optimal moisture content of 12%. Post-training surveys indicated high levels of satisfaction among participants, with improvements in product quality and increased potential for collaboration. Overall, the implementation of SHD technology and capacity building has provided sustainable solutions for improving the livelihoods of coffee farmers in Gombengsari

Abstract

This research aimed to know the students’ ability in pronouncing monophthong of the X PPLG 1 at SMKN 1 Banyuwangi. The researcher used descriptive quantitative method. This research used test and record to collect the data. The data was obtained by analyzing the students’ ability in pronouncing word stress (primary and secondary stress) in  monophtongs. The researcher used twelve (12) monophthongs in this research, namely [i:], [I], [e], [ӕ], [a:], [ɒ], [ɔ:], [ʊ], [u:], [Ʌ], [ɜ:], and [ә].  There were 31 students as the respondent in this research. The data processing method was divided into four stages namely, data collection, data processing, data analysis, and data description. Based on the research findings, the researcher found the word that the results of this research indicated the students’ ability in pronouncing primary stress were 84% and secondary stress were 82%. The classification of the students’ ability in pronouncing both primary and secondary stress were categorized as “very good”.
