Abstract

This study aims to identify character values embedded in the folktales of Pelalawan and to design a locally grounded instructional model to strengthen students’ character education. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed. The researchers analyzed two folktales, “The Golden Chain from the Riverbed” and “The Tale of the Sacred Ketobong” collected through documentary sources. Interactive content analysis was used as the analytical technique. Findings reveal character values such as simplicity, sincerity, humility, responsibility, and adherence to moral norms. The study concludes that folktales hold significant potential as effective educational media in Indonesian language and literature instruction, offering a contextual approach to character formation among students.

Abstract

Hypertension remains a major public health concern worldwide, largely driven by unhealthy lifestyles such as poor diet, physical inactivity, and excess body weight. Early identification of modifiable risk factors, including cholesterol levels, body mass index (BMI), and physical activity, is crucial for preventing hypertension. This community-based screening activity was conducted on 7 August 2025, at SMA Negeri 9 Padang, targeting teachers, administrative staff, and food vendors. A total of 80 adults participated in the study using convenience sampling. The activity included health education followed by individual health screenings, which consisted of blood pressure measurement, BMI calculation, cholesterol testing using portable point-of-care devices, and physical activity assessment using structured questionnaires. The results showed that 45% of participants were classified as prehypertensive, 83.8% had high cholesterol levels, and 66.3% were overweight or obese. Most participants (72.5%) reported moderate physical activity levels, which fell short of the World Health Organization’s recommendations. These findings indicate a high risk of hypertension among adults in the school community, particularly related to elevated cholesterol, excess body weight, and insufficient physical activity. We identified hypertension risk factors and provided health education and individualized screening feedback to raise awareness of cardiovascular risks and emphasize the importance of regular screening.

Abstract: Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (CHLB) remains a challenge in rural communities due to the lack of consistency in daily practices. This community service aimed to improve knowledge and skills related to CHLB through counseling, socialization, community clean-up, abate distribution, and digital assistance in Tanjung Bingkung Village, involving around 70 participants from various community groups. Evaluation was carried out using observation, a 20-question pre-test on PHBS, and interviews. The results showed a significant increase in handwashing skills, from 42% before the intervention to 95% afterward. Other indicators such as healthy latrine use, exclusive breastfeeding, and waste management reached more than 80%. The program also enhanced soft skills, including active participation and community cooperation, by around 40–50%. These findings demonstrate that education and empowerment-based interventions can effectively improve CHLB practices in rural communities.

Abstract

Abstract: The major health concern among adult women in Alai Parak Kopi is the high prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) risk factors and limited knowledge regarding its prevention. This community program aimed to enhance early detection and health literacy through structured screening and educational interventions. A total of 53 adult women participated in health education, screening of blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, uric acid, body mass index, and group exercise sessions. Evaluation was conducted using a pre-test and behavioral observation. Results showed substantial CKD risk: high BMI (45.3%), hypertension (41.5%), hyperglycemia (24.5%), dyslipidemia (39.6%), and hyperuricemia (37.7%). Knowledge scores increased by 18–32% across CKD, hypertension, diabetes, uric acid, and hypercholesterolemia domains. These findings demonstrate that structured screening and education effectively improve health awareness and early prevention of CKD. Continued community-based programs are recommended to sustain behavioral change.
