Abstract

Background: Service learning has gained significant attention in higher education as an effective pedagogical approach that combines academic learning with community service. By engaging students in real-world problem-solving, service learning fosters both academic achievement and civic responsibility. However, its integration into higher education curricula remains inconsistent, and its impact on student learning and development requires further exploration. Purpose: This study aims to examine the effectiveness of integrating service learning into higher education curricula and its impact on students' academic and personal development. Specifically, it explores how service learning enhances critical thinking, social responsibility, and community engagement among university students. Method: A mixed-methods approach was used, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. Data were collected from 150 students enrolled in service learning courses across various disciplines. Pre- and post-course surveys assessed academic performance, while interviews provided insights into students' personal reflections on their experiences. Results: The findings indicate that students who participated in service learning courses showed significant improvements in critical thinking skills, social responsibility, and their sense of community involvement. These students also reported higher levels of academic engagement and satisfaction compared to those in traditional courses. Conclusion: Integrating service learning into higher education curricula effectively enhances students' academic, personal, and social development. The study highlights the importance of incorporating experiential learning opportunities that bridge classroom knowledge with real-world applications.

Abstract

Background. This study aims to examine the influence of constructivism philosophy application on elementary school students’ learning independence. The rapid changes in educational paradigms emphasize the need for students to actively engage in their learning processes. Constructivism, with its focus on learners building knowledge through experience and reflection, has been identified as a potential catalyst in fostering students’ independence. Purpose. The objective of this research is to determine how the implementation of constructivist-based learning strategies can impact students’ ability to work autonomously in the learning environment. This research adopts a quasi-experimental method with a pre-test and post-test design. Method. The sample consists of two groups of elementary school students, with one group receiving constructivist-based instruction and the other group following traditional teaching methods. Data collection involved observation, questionnaires, and tests to measure the level of students’ learning independence before and after the intervention. Results. The results revealed that the application of constructivist principles significantly improved students’ learning independence, as seen from the increased scores in the post-test and positive feedback from observational data. Conclusion. This study concludes that constructivist-based learning can effectively enhance students’ independence, suggesting that educators should consider incorporating these strategies into their teaching practices.

Abstract

Background. The integration of interdisciplinary approaches in legal studies is increasingly recognized as essential for addressing complex societal issues. Combining social science and data science offers innovative ways to analyze legal phenomena, providing deeper insights and more robust solutions. Purpose. This study aims to explore the benefits and challenges of integrating social science and data science in legal studies. The research seeks to identify effective interdisciplinary methodologies, evaluate their impact on legal research outcomes, and propose frameworks for their implementation in legal academia and practice. Method. A mixed-methods research design was employed, utilizing both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The study involved a literature review, case studies, and expert interviews to gather insights into existing interdisciplinary practices. Additionally, data analysis techniques from social and data sciences were applied to legal datasets to demonstrate the potential of these methods in enhancing legal research. Results. The findings indicate that integrating social science and data science in legal studies significantly enhances the analytical depth and breadth of legal research. Case studies revealed successful applications of interdisciplinary methods in areas such as criminal justice, human rights, and regulatory compliance. Conclusion. The study concludes that interdisciplinary approaches combining social science and data science hold great promise for advancing legal studies. Implementing these methodologies can lead to more informed legal analyses, better policy recommendations, and enhanced legal education.

Abstract

Background. This research is motivated by the need to develop Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teaching materials that are not only normative-doctrinal in nature, but also contextual to the socio-cultural realities of students. To date, PAI modules tend to be less accommodating of local wisdom and prophetic values that encompass the dimensions of humanization, liberation, and transcendence, so that learning has not fully formed a holistic character. Purpose. Therefore, this study aims to develop an PAI module based on local wisdom and prophetic values that is valid, practical, and effective in improving the quality of learning. Method. The research method used is research and development (R&D) with a development model that includes the stages of needs analysis, product design, expert validation, limited trials, and product revision. The research instruments are in the form of validation sheets, student response questionnaires, and learning outcome tests. Results. The results show that the developed module has a high level of validity based on expert assessments, and is considered practical and easy to use in the learning process. Furthermore, the implementation of this module has proven effective in enhancing students' understanding of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) material while simultaneously instilling local wisdom and prophetic values in everyday life. The research discussion confirms that the integration of local wisdom and prophetic values in the PAI module can create more contextual, relevant, and meaningful learning.  Conclusion. The development of a PAI module based on local wisdom and prophetic values is a strategic innovation in improving the quality of Islamic religious education that is adaptive to local culture while also oriented towards the comprehensive character development of students.
