Abstract

Creative startups in Indonesia have become key players in the country's economic growth, contributing significantly to job creation and innovation. However, securing funding remains a major challenge for these startups. The gap in access to financing and the lack of understanding of investors about the creative sector often hinder the growth potential of these businesses. Despite the promising prospects, these challenges require a comprehensive analysis to identify the opportunities for overcoming funding barriers. This study aims to analyze the challenges faced by creative startups in Indonesia when seeking funding and explore the opportunities available to facilitate their access to capital. The research focuses on identifying key obstacles and evaluating potential solutions that could improve the startup ecosystem in the country. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining qualitative interviews with creative startup founders and quantitative surveys conducted among investors and funding bodies. Data was analyzed to identify common challenges and potential opportunities within the funding landscape. The study found that limited awareness among investors, a lack of tailored financial products, and the perception of high risk associated with creative startups were the primary challenges. However, there are emerging opportunities, including government initiatives and the growing popularity of crowdfunding platforms, which are becoming viable alternatives for funding. To enhance the growth of creative startups in Indonesia, both government and private sectors must collaborate to provide more accessible and specialized funding options. Additionally, increasing awareness among investors about the potential of the creative sector can unlock new funding opportunities.

Abstract

Background. In contemporary societies, cultural traditions face constant pressure from globalization, modernization, and social change. These forces often lead to the adaptation and transformation of cultural practices, creating a dynamic tension between tradition and progress. Understanding how communities navigate these transitions is critical for understanding the mechanisms of cultural preservation and transformation. Purpose. This study aims to examine the processes of cultural adaptation and social change in contemporary communities. By investigating how communities balance the preservation of traditions with the demands of modern life, the research seeks to shed light on the factors influencing cultural evolution and the impact of social change on traditional practices. Method. A qualitative research approach is employed, utilizing in-depth interviews and participant observation within several communities undergoing significant cultural transitions. Data is collected from various social groups, including older and younger generations, to explore differing perspectives on tradition and change. Results. The study finds that while traditional practices remain important, they are continually reinterpreted and adapted to align with modern values and lifestyles. Younger generations tend to prioritize aspects of tradition that align with global trends, while older generations emphasize the preservation of original practices. Conclusion. This research underscores the complexity of cultural adaptation and highlights the role of intergenerational dialogue in negotiating the tension between tradition and change.

Abstract

The increasing demand for adaptable, collaborative, and innovative professionals has positioned 21st century skills—such as critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration—at the center of educational priorities worldwide. Traditional instruction often fails to cultivate these competencies, prompting the need for more experiential, student-centered learning models. Project-Based Learning (PBL), with its emphasis on real-world problem-solving and interdisciplinary inquiry, has emerged as a promising pedagogical approach to support the development of these essential skills. This study aims to assess the impact of PBL on secondary students’ acquisition of key 21st century skills. Using a quasi-experimental design, the research involved 160 students divided into experimental (PBL) and control (conventional instruction) groups. Over ten weeks, the experimental group engaged in structured project cycles aligned with curriculum standards, while the control group followed traditional content delivery. Pre- and post-intervention assessments, student reflections, and teacher evaluations were analyzed to measure skill development. Results revealed that students in the PBL group showed statistically significant improvements in collaboration, problem-solving, and creative thinking compared to the control group. Teachers also reported increased learner autonomy and engagement. The study concludes that PBL is a viable strategy for fostering 21st century competencies in contemporary classrooms.

Abstract

The rapid growth of digital finance has transformed financial services by providing convenience, accessibility, and efficiency. However, this digital expansion also introduces significant cybersecurity risks, including data breaches, fraud, and unauthorized access, which threaten consumer protection and trust. Regulatory frameworks and ethical guidelines are critical to mitigating these risks, yet the evolving nature of technology presents ongoing challenges for policymakers and financial institutions. This study investigates cybersecurity risks in digital finance and examines the regulatory and ethical measures implemented to protect consumers. A qualitative research design was employed, combining systematic literature review with analysis of case studies involving cybersecurity incidents and regulatory responses in the financial sector. Data were analyzed thematically to identify patterns in risk exposure, regulatory effectiveness, and ethical considerations. Findings indicate that despite regulatory initiatives, gaps persist in data protection, enforcement, and alignment with emerging technologies, leaving consumers vulnerable to financial and informational harm. Ethical challenges include balancing innovation with responsibility, transparency in data use, and accountability for breaches. The study concludes that comprehensive, adaptive regulatory frameworks coupled with strong ethical standards are essential to safeguard consumers in digital finance. Collaboration among regulators, financial institutions, and technology providers is crucial to anticipate risks, ensure compliance, and foster trust in the digital financial ecosystem.

Abstract

Personalized hybrid education offers flexible learning opportunities, yet technological adaptation alone often fails to address differences in attention, memory, cognitive load, prior knowledge, and self-regulation that shape individual learning. This study examined the effectiveness of evidence-informed brain-based learning strategies within personalized hybrid education and developed an adaptive framework for cognitively responsive instruction. A quasi-experimental mixed-methods design compared students receiving brain-informed personalized hybrid instruction with those experiencing conventional hybrid learning. The intervention integrated prior-knowledge activation, retrieval practice, spaced learning, cognitive-load management, adaptive scaffolding, formative feedback, and metacognitive reflection across physical and digital environments. Findings indicated stronger academic achievement, knowledge retention, cognitive engagement, motivation, and self-regulated learning among students receiving personalized instruction, accompanied by more manageable cognitive demands. Learning analytics and qualitative evidence further demonstrated that effective personalization required dynamic adjustments based on learner readiness, performance, progress, and support needs rather than fixed learning-style classifications. The study concludes that brain-informed personalization is most effective when grounded in credible learning science and implemented through continuous cycles of diagnosis, adaptation, retrieval, feedback, monitoring, and recalibration. The proposed framework advances personalized hybrid education by integrating cognitive responsiveness, pedagogical orchestration, and adaptive support while avoiding unsupported neuromyth-based instructional assumptions in contemporary educational practice.

Abstract

Social isolation is a significant and modifiable risk factor for accelerated cognitive decline and dementia in aging populations. Traditional methods for detecting cognitive changes, such as clinical screenings, are often infrequent and fail to capture the subtle, early behavioral shifts that precede a formal diagnosis. This study aimed to develop and validate an artificial intelligence model designed for the early detection of cognitive decline by passively monitoring behavioral and vocal biomarkers of social isolation in older adults living independently. A 24-month, prospective longitudinal study was conducted with a cohort of 200 community-dwelling adults aged 70 and older. A suite of unobtrusive in-home sensors was used to passively collect data on movement patterns, social communication (frequency and duration of conversations), and computer/phone usage. The AI-powered system identified individuals who would later show clinically significant cognitive decline with an accuracy of 91% and a lead time of approximately 7 months before formal assessment. The model successfully distinguished between simple loneliness and the specific behavioral patterns of social withdrawal associated with cognitive impairment. AI-powered passive monitoring systems are a highly effective and ecologically valid tool for the pre-clinical detection of cognitive decline linked to social isolation.

Abstract

Climate change is intensifying the frequency and severity of heatwaves, posing a significant threat to public health. Urban elderly populations are particularly vulnerable due to the urban heat island effect and age-related physiological sensitivities. Quantifying this risk with precision is essential for developing targeted public health interventions. This study aimed to quantify the association between exposure to extreme heat events, as measured by remote sensing data, and all-cause mortality among an elderly urban population. A retrospective cohort study was conducted using health data for 50,000 urban residents aged 65 and over from 2015-2022. Land Surface Temperature (LST) data derived from Landsat satellites were used to define heatwave exposure at a granular, neighborhood level. Cox proportional hazards models were used to analyze the association between heatwave exposure and mortality, adjusting for confounding variables. A significant association was found between heatwave exposure and increased mortality risk. For each 1°C increase in LST during a heatwave, there was a 5.2% (95% CI: 4.5%-6.0%) increase in all-cause mortality. The risk was most pronounced in neighborhoods with lower green space coverage. Satellite-derived remote sensing data provide a powerful tool for assessing heatwave-related mortality risk in urban elderly populations. These findings underscore the urgent need for urban planning and public health strategies focused on heat mitigation to protect vulnerable residents.

Abstract

The emergence of nano-medicine has introduced transformative approaches for the treatment of degenerative diseases, including Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and osteoarthritis. These technologies enable targeted drug delivery, enhanced bioavailability, and improved therapeutic precision. Despite clinical potential, ethical challenges related to patient comprehension, informed consent, and long-term safety remain underexplored, particularly for vulnerable populations affected by cognitive decline. Understanding these challenges is critical for aligning technological innovation with bioethical principles. This study aims to investigate the bioethical issues arising from the use of nano-medicine in degenerative disease therapy and to identify strategies that enhance ethical implementation in clinical practice. The research further seeks to develop a conceptual framework to guide ethical decision-making in emerging medical technologies. A qualitative exploratory design was employed, including fifteen participants comprising clinicians, patients, and regulatory authorities. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, direct observation of clinical interactions, and document analysis of protocols and consent forms. Thematic coding and triangulation were applied to elucidate patterns in ethical practices, communication strategies, and institutional oversight. Findings indicate that patient comprehension varies significantly with age and cognitive status, while clinician strategies and institutional protocols influence ethical adherence. Iterative consent processes and technological support enhance transparency, autonomy, and responsible clinical practice.

Abstract

Background. The effectiveness of oral corrective feedback (OCF) in language learning is influenced by learners’ comprehension and response to various OCF techniques. Therefore, it is essential for teachers to consider learners’ preferences for OCF strategies. Purpose. This quantitative study aimed to investigate the preferences of Thai as a foreign language (TFL) learner for ten commonly discussed types of OCF. Specifically, it examined whether these preferences are influenced by four learner variables: proficiency level, first language (L1), foreign language classroom anxiety (FLCA), and foreign language enjoyment (FLE). Method. The study involved 288 university students from Chinese, Japanese, and Korean TFL settings, and the data from questionnaires were analysed using appropriate statistical methods. Results. The findings indicate that, regardless of proficiency level, L1, FLCA, or FLE level, learners prefer more explicit OCF techniques, such as metalinguistics feedback and explicit correction. However, Korean undergraduates scored lower in the majority of OCF strategies (i.e., ignoring, elicitation, recast, explanation, and public feedback) compared to the other participants. Conclusion. This study has significant implications for instructional practices in TFL settings and for L2 lecturers in the classroom. By understanding learners’ preferences for OCF, educators can tailor their instructional approaches to meet the specific needs of their students.
