Abstract

This study examines the influence of integrated learning in the subjects of Islamic Cultural History (SKI) and Aqidah Akhlak on enhancing students’ understanding of religious moderation at MTs Nurul Falah Bandung. Using a mixed-method sequential explanatory approach, data were collected through Likert-scale pre-tests and post-tests as well as semi-structured interviews. The results of the paired t-test showed a significant increase in the average scores of religious moderation understanding: cognitive dimension rose from 3.05 to 3.98, affective from 3.18 to 4.04, and conative from 3.13 to 4.00, with p < 0.001. Regression analysis indicated that the intervention contributed β = 0.62 with R² = 0.58. Qualitative findings revealed that the integration of historical narratives and moral values strengthened students’ tolerant, empathetic, and reflective attitudes toward differences. The study concludes that contextually integrated SKI and Aqidah Akhlak learning is effective in fostering the values of religious moderation and can serve as a character education model in madrasahs.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) in shaping students’ religious character at MTs An-Nur, Pacet District, Bandung Regency, as well as to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors in its implementation. The study is grounded in the recognition of IRE as a strategic instrument for fostering a generation that is faithful, pious, and of noble character amid the challenges of globalization, the influence of digital media, and shifting social values. The research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Research subjects included IRE teachers, the school principal, students, and parents, selected purposively. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis, and were analyzed using Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña’s interactive model, which comprises data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. Data validity was ensured through source triangulation and member checking. The findings indicate that IRE at MTs An-Nur positively contributes to the development of students’ religious character through a curriculum that incorporates Islamic values, teacher role modeling, participatory learning strategies, and a supportive school environment. However, its effectiveness is hindered by the limited integration of religious values into daily life, the influence of social media and popular culture, and the lack of synergy between school, family, and community. The study recommends strategies to enhance the effectiveness of IRE through the integration of Islamic values across all subjects, continuous professional development for IRE teachers, multi-stakeholder collaboration, and the use of technology as a medium for character education.

Abstract

This study examines how spiritual values are systematically integrated to strengthen students’ character formation through school management processes in elementary education. Employing a qualitative multi-site case study design, the research was conducted at SDN Nanggala 1 and SDN Ciranjang 1 in Cianjur Regency, Indonesia. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observations, and document analysis, and analyzed using an interactive model consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that effective character development is strongly influenced by managerial and leadership practices rather than by religious instruction alone. Strategic planning, collaborative organization, consistent habituation through daily spiritual and social activities, and continuous behavioral evaluation enabled values such as discipline, responsibility, empathy, and respect to be embedded into everyday school life. Despite challenges related to limited time, varying teacher readiness, and difficulties in assessing character outcomes, adaptive leadership and stakeholder collaboration supported program sustainability. The study concludes that spirituality-based character education is most effective when managed as a structured and school-wide process. This research contributes to educational management literature by positioning spiritual value integration as a strategic mechanism for fostering sustainable character development in elementary schools.

Abstract

As the nation's next generation, adolescents are highly vulnerable to the negative impacts of technological developments and globalization. One of the most obvious impacts is the shift in Islamic values in their daily lives. Furthermore, instilling leadership values is urgent, as adaptive leadership habits relevant to global dynamics are necessary from adolescence onward. The Mosque Youth Association (IRMA) is one such organization with the potential to be a strategic solution in fostering Islamic values while fostering leadership character. This study aims to describe the application of management functions, including planning, organizing, implementing, and supervising, to support the instillation of Islamic values and leadership through IRMA activities. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data triangulation techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation to obtain a comprehensive picture of the phenomenon under study. The results indicate that management functions have been implemented effectively. In the planning stage, the program is systematically structured through goal setting, member recruitment mechanisms, and annual program development. The organizing stage is evident in the structured division of tasks and the provision of resources to support activities. Program implementation proceeded according to schedule with active member participation, while monitoring was conducted through periodic evaluation and reporting of activity results. This study concluded that sound management enabled IRMA's activities to be effective and sustainable in fostering Islamic values and youth leadership.

Abstract

This study investigates the implementation of Islamic Religious Education through religious culture in two public schools with distinct characteristics: SMAN 9 Garut (general senior high school) and SMKN 7 Garut (vocational high school). Employing a qualitative, descriptive case study approach, the research explores how religious culture is developed, its supporting and inhibiting factors, and its impact on students' religious character. Findings reveal that both schools utilize routine, incidental, and daily cultural programs, demonstrating similarities in execution while adapting to their specific contexts. Success factors include strong leadership commitment and active IRE teacher involvement, whereas challenges stem from varying student motivation and limited non-IRE teacher engagement. Notably, SMKN 7 Garut faces additional constraints due to facility limitations and demanding vocational schedules. The study concludes that religious culture significantly shapes students' character across spiritual, social, academic, and vocational dimensions, offering an adaptive model for IRE integration and practical recommendations for educational administrators

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology has significantly influenced various aspects of education, particularly through the widespread use of smartphones among elementary school students. While smartphones offer valuable opportunities to support learning activities, their excessive and inappropriate use may negatively affect students' learning motivation. This study aimed to examine the impact of smartphone use on students' extrinsic learning motivation at MI Hidayatul Ihsan and MI Nurul Islam Kuala Tungkal. The study employed a quantitative approach with an ex post facto research design. The population consisted of fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-grade students from both Islamic elementary schools, with a sample of 98 respondents selected through proportionate stratified random sampling. Data were collected using Likert-scale questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics and simple linear regression with the assistance of IBM SPSS Statistics version 26. The findings revealed that the level of smartphone use among students was categorized as high, whereas their extrinsic learning motivation was at a moderate level. The regression analysis indicated that smartphone use had a statistically significant effect on students' extrinsic learning motivation (p < 0.05), with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.318, indicating that smartphone use contributed 31.8% to the variance in students' extrinsic learning motivation. The study concludes that the educational impact of smartphone use depends largely on its purpose and intensity. Therefore, collaboration among schools, teachers, and parents is essential to encourage the productive use of smartphones as learning tools that enhance students' motivation and academic engagement.

Abstract

Differentiated learning has become one of the key approaches in implementing the Merdeka Curriculum, emphasizing learning experiences that accommodate students' diverse readiness levels, interests, and learning profiles. However, its implementation in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) remains a challenge due to the varying characteristics and intrinsic learning motivation of students. This study aims to analyze the strategies employed by Islamic Religious Education teachers in implementing differentiated learning to enhance students' intrinsic motivation through a multisite study conducted at SDS Wawasan Nusantara and SDN Kapuk 05 Pagi, West Jakarta. The study employed a qualitative approach using a multisite research design. Data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving school principals, Islamic Religious Education teachers, curriculum coordinators, and students selected through purposive sampling. The collected data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, including data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data credibility was ensured through source triangulation, technique triangulation, and member checking. The findings indicate that Islamic Religious Education teachers implemented differentiated learning by adjusting learning content, instructional processes, learning products, and classroom environments according to students' learning needs. These strategies contributed to increased student participation, greater learning autonomy, stronger curiosity, and higher intrinsic motivation during classroom activities. Although differences were identified in instructional media utilization and learning resources between the two schools, both institutions demonstrated that teacher pedagogical competence, creativity, and student-centered instructional practices played significant roles in fostering meaningful learning experiences and strengthening students' intrinsic motivation in Islamic Religious Education.
