Abstract

Palm sugar is a processed product from palm trees (nira) which is cultivated by many craftsmen, especially UMKM craftsmen. Activity of UMKM is an effort to increase income for palm sugar craftsmen. However, there are still obstacles in its development, namely the difficulty of obtaining raw materials in the form of nira because it is related to tradition and the low selling price of palm sugar. This low price results in the craftsmen's income being low. Generally, craftsmen never take into account production costs in detail, so that the income they earn cannot be calculated with certainty. The aim of this research is to calculate the costs and income of palm sugar craftsmen, as well as the factors that influence craftsmen to run a palm sugar business. The research method used is a case study in Ciranggem Village, Jatigede District, Sumedang Regency by taking 10 palm sugar craftsmen with census. The research results show that for one palm sugar production process, the average cost incurred is Rp. 164,000 and produces 10 kg of palm sugar. The selling price for palm sugar is Rp. 20,000/kg, so the income earned is Rp. 36,000/one production process. The R/C for palm sugar is 1.22, meaning that the palm sugar business is worth pursuing. The factors that most influence craftsmen to cultivate palm sugar are to increase family income.

Abstract

This study explores how the economic performance of agricultural small industries has survived for three generations in rural East Priangan. This study is important because of the high failure rate of small industries in Indonesia. This research uses a qualitative approach. Data was obtained through semi-structured interviews, FGDs, and secondary data from companies. Qualitative data was analyzed using the principles of Thematic Analysis assisted by N-Vivo 12 software. The results of the research show that the economic performance of agricultural small industries that have survived for three generations in rural areas is still in a poor status. The practical implications of these findings are that: Profitability, level of innovation, level of competition, are the most sensitive factors and need to be considered in improving economic performance. This paper highlights that long-lived agricultural small industries do not necessarily have good economic performance. Many of these small industries survive based on commitment, maintaining their family's good name and conventional orientation.

Abstract

Porang (Amorphophallus muelleri Blume) is one type of tuber plant that is starting to be widely produced in Indonesia because it has high economic value. This is because porang is widely used in the food, health, cosmetic, and manufacturing industries. Over the last decade, the export volume has increased drastically. In 2020, the export value of Indonesian porang was dominated by Thailand with a market share of 59.3%, followed by China with a total of 130 shipments, or 47.84% of total porang exports. Export share to Thailand and Australia increased significantly in 2020, with an increase of 920.1% and 526.7%, respectively. The purpose of the study was to determine the internal and external factors that affect the development of porang and obtain strategies for porang development at PT Al-Fatih Porang Indonesia. Qualitative descriptive research with Porter's Diamond Theory to determine the competitive position of porang agribusiness and SWOT analysis to determine the internal and external factors of porang agribusiness at PT Al-Fatih Porang Indonesia The results of Porter's Diamond Theory analysis showed that in PT Al-fatih Porang Indonesia's conduct of porang agribusiness development, each subsystem has not been mutually supportive and related to each other. This can be seen in the marketing and agribusiness subsystem, which is still difficult. The appropriate strategy for the development of porang at PT. Al-Fatih Porang Indonesia is to optimise the utilisation of porang.
