Abstract

Rice milling plays a crucial role in maintaining rice quality and business profitability. UD Dadi Mulyo, which has focused on glutinous rice production since 2021, faces various economic and market challenges affecting its sustainability. This study aims to analyze production costs, revenue, income, and the profitability of the rice milling business at UD Dadi Mulyo, Jepara Regency. The findings are expected to provide valuable insights for the company to evaluate its business performance and make strategic decisions. The research was conducted from November to December 2024 using a case study approach. The research location was purposively selected because UD Dadi Mulyo shifted its focus from regular rice to glutinous rice in 2021 due to declining demand for regular rice. Data analysis includes calculating production costs, revenue, income, and profitability ratios, including Gross Profit Margin (GPM), Net Profit Margin (NPM), and Return on Investment (ROI). The results were compared with bank deposit interest rates and industry standards using a one-sample t-test. The study found that the business has a higher ROI than bank deposit interest rates, but its GPM and NPM remain below industry standards. The one-sample t-test confirmed that the business's profitability is lower than the industry average in terms of GPM and NPM. These findings provide insights for the company to improve cost efficiency and marketing strategies to enhance business profitability.

Abstract

The horticulture sector is one of the sectors that plays an important role in national economic development. Cikajang District, Garut Regency, is one of the centres of horticultural crop production in West Java due to its favourable geographical conditions. Capital is a common problem for farmers, especially farmers with a small farming scale. One of the reasons is the difficulty of farmers in accessing capital sources. Financial Technology comes as a solution for farmers to facilitate access to capital sources. This study aims to describe and analyse thedirect andindirecteffects of farmers' perceptions and social influence on farm performance through the adoption of financial technology as an intervening variable. The research was conducted in Cikajang District, Garut Regency with 72 farmers as respondents. The research method used was Structural Model Equation - Partial Least Square (SEM - PLS) with SmartPLS 4 software. The results showed that farmers' perceptions had no direct effect on improving farm performance, but had an indirect effect on farm performance through the adoption of financial technology. Social influence itself has both a direct and indirect effect on farm performance. The test also found that the adoption of financial technology has a significant effect on farm performance.

Abstract

The plantation sub-sector commodities are primarily export-oriented. Each region possesses distinct plantation commodities shaped by its unique geographical characteristics. Therefore, the local government of Bandung Regency must identify its leading plantation commodities along with their potential in the international market. This study aims to identify the leading plantation sub-sector commodities in Bandung Regency and assess their opportunities in global trade. The study utilizes time-series data from 2019 to 2023, sourced from UN Comtrade and Statistics Indonesia (BPS). To determine the leading commodities, the Location Quotient (LQ) and Differential Shift (DS) methods were employed. Furthermore, the Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) and Export Product Dynamics (EPD) approaches were used to evaluate the competitiveness and market position of these commodities in international trade. Finally, the X-Model Potential Export Product framework was applied to explore export development opportunities. The findings indicate that coffee and tobacco are the leading plantation commodities in Bandung Regency. These commodities exhibit comparative advantage but lack competitiveness, placing them in a "lost opportunity" category. Nevertheless, they demonstrate potential in the international market. Therefore, it is recommended that the Bandung Regency local government prioritize coffee and tobacco in its plantation sub-sector policies due to they possess potential market development in international trade.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the world's essential oil exporters, with high demand from the perfume, cosmetics, pharmaceutical, food, and beverage industries. However, essential oil exports have fluctuated in five destination countries, namely: Singapore, Spain, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Germany. This study analyzes Indonesia's competitiveness, trade specialization, and essential oil export performance using Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA), Export Product Dynamic (EPD), Export Competitiveness Index (ECI), Trade Specialization Index (ISP), Comparative Export Performance (CEP), and Acceleration Ratio (AR) based on UN Comtrade 2014–2023 data with HS code 3301. The results show that Indonesia has a comparative advantage with an average RCA value of 3.53. EPD analysis shows that Germany, the Netherlands, Singapore and Spain are in the Retreat category and Switzerland in the Lost Opportunity category, while the fluctuating ECI indicates unstable competitiveness. ISP confirms Indonesia's position as an essential oil exporter. CEP shows that Indonesia has a relative export advantage over the world average. And AR shows the fluctuating dynamics of export acceleration. To improve competitiveness, product diversification, quality improvement, and more aggressive marketing strategies are needed.

Abstract

Maize is a strategic commodity with growing demand; however, domestic productivity faces challenges due to the limited availability of high-quality seeds, fertilizers, and other production inputs. Analyzing production risk in maize farming is essential for identifying factors contributing to yield uncertainty. This study examines the factors influencing maize production risk in dryland farming in Karanganyar Regency using a multiple linear regression model with the heteroscedasticity approach by Just and Pope, based on a sample of 60 farmers. The results indicate that the production risk of maize in Karanganyar's dryland areas, as reflected by a coefficient of variation of 24.08%, is relatively low. Production risk is significantly influenced by fertilizer application and labor input. Phonska, SP-36, and urea fertilizers have a notable impact that helps mitigate production risk. Additionally, labor input is crucial in determining crop yields, with greater labor availability correlating with lower production risk for farmers. In contrast, maize seeds, land area, organic fertilizers, and pesticides insignificantly affect production risk. These findings highlight the importance of effective agricultural input management, particularly the selection of appropriate fertilizers and labor optimization, in reducing uncertainty in maize production.

Abstract

Competition in the international market for tapioca commodities  is getting tougher with the presence of other major exporting countries. Therefore, it is important for Indonesia to not only rely on comparative advantages but also strengthen its competitive advantages. The purpose of this study is to analyze the competitiveness of tapioca in Indonesia and four competing countries. The data analysis used in this study are ISP, AR, RCA, RSCA, TBI, and ECI. The results showed that Indonesia's tapioca trade balance had a positive performance in the period 2013-2022. The competitiveness of tapioca exports based on the Index of Trade Specialization (ISP) shows that Indonesia has strong competitiveness with an average ISP value of 0.59. The competitiveness of tapioca exports based on the average value of Indonesia’s Acceleration Ratio (AR) is 9.38 which means that tapioca have a comparative advantage. The competitiveness of tapioca exports based on the average value of Indonesia's Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) is 3.71, which shows that tapioca have a comparative advantage. Likewise, the results of the RSCA analysis show the same thing. The competitiveness of tapioca exports based on the average value of Indonesia's Trade Balance Index (TBI) is 0.59, which means that it can run as an exporting country, because it is able to export more than importing tapioca. The competitiveness of tapioca exports based on the average value of Indonesia's Export Competitiveness Index (ECI) 1.05, which shows a competitive advantage or is experiencing an upward trend in tapioca exports.

Abstract

Karawang Regency is one of the straw mushroom production centers in West Java Province. The harvest area for straw mushroom cultivation in Karawang Regency continues to decline from year to year. There are many risks faced in the straw mushroom cultivation business which affect production dynamics. However, the potential and opportunities for the straw mushroom business development in Karawang are still quite high. Karawang is one of the rice production areas in West Java, so the availability of straw as a growing medium will be quite abundant . The aim of this research is to identify risks that often occur and mapping the risks faced by straw mushroom farmers at Jatisari Subdistrict. This research was conducted using a mixed method research method. The data was analyzed descriptively and also using the House of Risk (HOR) phase-1. The results of this research are: (1) based on the level which appears most frequently, the risks faced by farmers in growing straw mushrooms are: low price of straw mushrooms, lack of capital, and fluctuation of selling price of straw mushrooms. Meanwhile, the level of risk that occurs least frequently are: crop failure, lack of access to financial institutions, and long disbursement of bank loans; (2) based on the results of risk mapping, there are eight priority risk agents that must be mitigated, i.e.: lack of capital, low fluctuating selling price, high expenditure of farmers needs, mushroom sales are not  smooth enough, long disbursement of bank loans, high bank interest, and financial institutions (banks) access difficulties.

Abstract

North Sumatra Province is the ninth largest province in Indonesia. Therefore, the development of this very large area requires appropriate development program steps. One method that can be used in planning the economic development of a region is to determine the leading sectors in the region that are further developed without ignoring other sectors. The purpose of this study is to determine the leading sectors in the North Sumatra economy that can be used as a basis for designing economic development strategies in North Sumatra Province. This analysis is based on secondary data (time series), including North Sumatra's GRDP (Gross Regional Domestic Product) and Indonesia's GDP (Gross Domestic Product) in the period 2020-2023. This study uses a quantitative approach with LQ (Location Quotient), DLQ (Dynamic Location Quotient), and Klassen Typology Analysis. The results of the study show that the sectors that grew rapidly in North Sumatra during the period 2020-2023 include the water supply, waste management, waste, and recycling sectors; wholesale and retail trade sectors; motor vehicle and motorcycle repair sectors; and the real estate sector. Meanwhile, the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sectors; construction sectors; and the transportation and warehousing sectors are not leading sectors that are growing rapidly, but remain important foundation sectors for the North Sumatra economy. In order for these sectors to become leading sectors, government policy intervention is needed to increase their growth.
