Abstract

It has been proven that intolerance incidents colour the history of the Indonesian nation, both in the past and the present. Cases of intolerance usually appear more and more, especially in heated political situations. On one hand, the society has an ideal principle, namely moderation. However, viewing the discussion so far, the principle of moderation is still understood as the middle position. The principle of moderation seems to be a passive attitude without any specific action. The Al-Qur'an explains the principle of moderation with the term ummatan wasathan in Surah Al-Baqarah verse 143. This article attempts to interpret the term by using Roland Barthes' semiotics, which sees this term at the level of language and myth. By interpreting the meaning of ummatan wastan at these two levels, a description of the moderation principle can be seen as not a passive position, but rather an active attitude to act fairly in looking at various things. This attitude is an effort to select something in a balanced and fair manner based on various considerations to achieve harmony in life.

Abstract

This paper is about the historical process of the formation of fiqh Madhdhab, which was followed by the paradigm of thought that began to occur between Ahl al-Hadith and Ahl al-Fiqh, where both have their positions on the development of knowledge in the classical period. After the first century of Hijri during Umawiyyah rule, several Western history writers have stated in various literatures that they wrote, that Ahl al-Hadith appear to be in opposition to the government. The position of the government at that time is closer to the Islamic jurists who is a maker and controllers of laws in the government. Looking at the practice of law-making that happened at that time, how were the relations between Ahl al-Hadith and Ahl al-Fiqh according to some experts? There are dialogues and several theories resulting from the dialectics, accompanied by criticism of the groups who abuse their closeness to the government to falsify hadith for the benefit of their groups, due to their fanaticism. This research uses descriptive-analytical-critical nature, through a sociological-historical approach.

Abstract

The word Hanīf in the Qur'an invites much academic debate regarding the meaning of the word. This word has many interpretations; if it refers to literature originating from recent Islam, it is interpreted as Islam. However, you get many alternative interpretations using interpretation through the Late Antiquity and Near East approaches. This paper aims to interpret the meaning of Hanīf using Late Antiquity and the Near East approach. This research shows that the meaning of Hanīf in the study of Islamic turrets has various meanings; there are at least five meanings in Tafsir At Tabari and Ibn Katsir. Furthermore, in the studies of Western scholars in analyzing the word Hanīf, it is studied based on the development of language in the Near Eastern context, which does not only mean Islam. In the social context, Hanīf means there is a monotheistic group that does not worship idols. Moneteism is defined as a submission to the One God and is not limited to one religion. The meaning of Hanīf here is more pluralistic and is not interpreted exclusively as meaning that Islam is the religion of the Prophet Muhammad. This means there are different interpretations of the word Hanīf using Late Antiquity and Near East approaches.

Abstract

This study raises the theme of criticism of anthropocentric readings implemented in the Qur'an, as Sarra Tlili often voices in his various scientific works and seminars. As commonly known, anthropocentrism (the dominant paradigm of the modern age) is receiving widespread criticism because it is considered the root of the global environmental crisis and various forms of violence against animals. Anthropocentric reading of the Qur'an itself has given birth to a biased view of nature and non-human animals so that they are only assessed from the aspect of their use for human interests (instrumentalism) as God's golden children (favoritism). As an alternative, Tlili (re)promotes theocentrism and ecocentrism which are considered more in line with the cosmology of the Qur’an. This research itself uses the hermeneutic verstehen method and active reading techniques which are carried out on various works of Tlili regarding the research theme. This research concludes that it is necessary to reinterpret some of the core concepts in the Qur'an as Tlili did so that it does not give rise to biased views of nature and various forms of violence against non-human animals.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the ideal concept of social integration patterns based on the Quran through a thematic study of verses related to social integration. In the modern context, social integration often faces challenges such as social inequality, intergroup conflicts, and lack of tolerance. The structural functionalism theory pioneered by Talcott Parsons provides a theoretical basis regarding the importance of balance in society to achieve social order. However, the concept of social integration in Islam emphasizes principles of justice, unity, and tolerance as outlined in the Quranic verses. Verses such as those in Surah Al-Hujurat (49:13) and Surah Al-Maidah (5:2) teach the importance of mutual recognition among nations and tribes, as well as cooperation in righteousness and piety. The Quran also emphasizes the importance of justice (Surah An-Nisa 4:58) and the unity of the ummah (Surah Ali Imran 3:103) as the main foundations for achieving harmonious social integration. This study finds that the ideal pattern of social integration according to the Quran is based on principles of justice, unity, mutual assistance, and recognition of differences, which, if consistently applied, can address various social challenges faced today.

Abstract

Long Distance Marriage (LDM) is an increasingly common phenomenon in this era of globalization, where married couples are separated by long physical distances due to work, education, or other obligations. One of the biggest challenges that LDM couples face is maintaining emotional closeness and effective communication. This research aims to explore digital communication strategies that can be used to build and sustain emotional intimacy between husband and wife in LDM. Through qualitative methods, including in-depth interviews with 5 LDM couples, several key strategies were identified, such as the use of voice and video calls, text and voice messages, media sharing, and regular communication scheduling. The findings suggest that the quality of communication, including emotional depth, openness, and honesty, is critical in strengthening emotional bonds. Additionally, the consistency and frequency of communication are essential to keeping the relationship alive and dynamic. The Quran emphasizes the importance of communication based on truthfulness and sincerity, as seen in the verse: “O you who have believed, fear Allah and speak words of appropriate justice” (QS. Al-Ahzab: 70). This reinforces the idea that openness and honesty are fundamental to maintaining trust and emotional closeness, especially in LDM. The implications of this research highlight that by utilizing appropriate digital communication strategies and upholding the principles of openness and honesty, LDM couples can foster strong and enduring relationships, even when separated by physical distance.
