This paper documents a fragment of a story in my life that plays a significant role in shaping my identity as an English teacher and influencing me in deciding to become an English teacher as my career choice. This study's research question is 'how and why did I decide to become an English teacher?'. This study was conducted using the "narrative inquiry" method underthe qualitative research paradigm. The study is carried out by describing an individual's life, collecting and retelling parts of his life relevant to the research topic. In this study, the fragments of the story that are retold are the writer's own experience. This study shows that a person's journey to become a teacher can start long before he/she enters a teacher education institution. A person's decision to become a teacher can come internally and come from external factors, such as the influence of 'significant others', socio-cultural factors, economic factors, and teacher political factors. All of these factors are intertwined or influence a person's final decision on whether to choose a career as a teacher or not.

This study investigates the obstacles that teachers faced using Google Classroom as a platform for Distance Learning (PJJ) during the COVID-19 pandemic at the elementary school level. This study also examines how elementary school teachers overcome the obstacles they experience while conducting distance learning through Google Classroom. This type of research is descriptive qualitative research. In-depth semi-structured interviews were used to collect data from 8 teacher respondents who actively use Google Classroom in teaching activities in Pontianak. The findings indicate that the obstacles faced by teachers during learning activities are limited facilities and infrastructure, lack of technical support, difficulties in controlling students, and lack of human resources. Teachers have made maximum efforts to overcome these obstacles by utilizing available facilities and infrastructure and affordable technical support and organizing independent training activities and peer-to-peer tutorial activities related to distance learning, such as controlling student learning and improving human resources quality.

Dayah sustainably transmits religious, intellectual, and spiritual traditions (Islamic Boarding Schools). Several Dayah Salafiyah in Langsa City, for example, are also involved in implementing and developing strategies for the cultivation of such religious cultures. To conduct a deeper examination, this phenomenological study examined the involvement, implementation, and strategies used in those Dayahs. Observations were used to collect data. Meanwhile, the data were organized using Miles and Huberman's qualitative data analysis framework. The findings indicated that religious activities based on religious culture at the Dayah Salafiyah in Langsa City were always developed in collaboration with the dayah's leaders, teungku dayah, santri, and community. To begin, the dayah's leader serves as a facilitator, motivator, and mediator in the students' and community's religious activities and a controller of the dayah's activities. Additionally, it is critical to remember that the most fundamental form of salafiyah dayah implementation promotes good behaviour. To ensure that the religious culture development program is carried out as planned, salafiyah education incorporates religious culture into all aspects of its operations. This strategy for religious culture development is carried out by establishing policies, habituation, and student awareness, exemplary behaviour, discipline, and civilization. The dayah's leaders have absolute authority to monitor and evaluate all efforts made by teachers and students to foster a strong religious culture in the school.

This study aims to reveal the innovation of modern pesantren education carried out by the Ta'mirul Islam Islamic boarding school based on the perspective of Imam Zarkasyi. The challenges of contemporary progress demand that Islamic boarding schools need to improve their education system, both in terms of institutions, curriculum and philosophy and goals. K.H Imam Zarkasyi is an educational figure who succeeded in laying the foundation of the pesantren education system, thus inspiring the Ta'mirul Islam Islamic boarding school to adopt its education system. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative, in which data collection is carried out in several ways, namely observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that the implementation of the Imam Zarkasyi education concept in the Ta'mirul Islam Islamic boarding school is carried out by integrating the Islamic education system and madrasah, integrating religious and general science, and cultivating the values of a life philosophy. In addition, the education system in Ta'mirul Islam can be used as a model for educational development in other pesantren.
