Abstract

Some students have successfully used goal–setting to maintain academic performance throughout their studies. Behind these successes, they implemented the strategy to the fullest, making their goals more manageable. This study explores the strategies of prospective physical education teachers using goal–setting to maintain academic performance. The research team used an exploratory qualitative approach to compare students’ experiences with good and bad academic reputations in maintaining academic performance through observation, interview, and documentation techniques. There were 11 students involved, both those with good academic reputations and vice versa. Spradley’s taxonomic analysis found that students had to reconstruct their way of learning because of traumatic experiences of academic failure and the economic limitations of the family. Goal–setting ensures that students complete their work on time and are more selective in using the clarity of information in lecturer learning designs. In addition, they reduce their learning challenges by learning and acting according to the assessment rubric, commit to each learning task and responsibility, use feedback to improve learning performance, and ensure all learning task needs by developing self–learning strategies.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to strengthen the mental model of prospective elementary school teacher candidates by using the MIKiR (mengalami, interaksi, komunikasi, internalisasi, and refleksi) method, which is directed towards conceptual growth and is based on the MIKiR framework (CDOI Model). The research was carried out utilizing a pre-experimental approach with a pretest-posttest design in one group for this study. The research was carried out on pre-service primary teachers at the Universitas Riau, in Indonesia. The instrument used to collect data was a heat transfer conceptual understanding test (HTCU Test), which consisted of three sections of the question, each of which had previously been verified and evaluated to ensure that the participants were eligible. Using the MIKiR approach (experiencing, interaction, communication, and reflection), this study found that implementing the CDOI model of conceptual development-oriented instruction had a high level of success in enabling the creation of mental models. Furthermore, it can aid in the conceptualization and development of the concept of heat transfer and the formulation and overall knowledge of the concept.

Abstract

Covid-19 is a pandemic that has been going on since the pre-pandemic period of the madrasah based pesantren is described in this paper. Researchers at MTs Ali Maksum conducted qualitative research. Triangulation was used to analyze the data gathered through interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings showed that the government-mandated online implementation of the direct learning model in pesantren-based madrasahs was successful. Based on evaluation results, there were limitations in the learning process starting from apperception to delivery of material, implementation, follow-up, and development of student competencies, resulting in problems in the next process. Before the pandemic, there was a gradual shift from face-to-face to online learning. It's also possible to combine the two. There are limitations to fully online learning, which is why pesantren-based madrasas consider blended learning as a solution.

Abstract

The importance of vocabulary in the learning of EFL has been an indisputable matter in ELT. The inclusion of vocabulary in ELT materials is often accompanied with questions such as what type of vocabulary and how many words to be taught for students in diverse ELT contexts. Hence, evaluating the kinds of vocabulary in ELT materials is similarly important. This study demonstrates a considerably unconventional corpus -informed materials evaluation to assess the suitability of the vocabulary content of ELT course books taught at the State Islamic Institute in Manado with its ESP context. Four ELT course books taught at the four schools of the State Islamic Institute were analysed using the corpus-based methods. A special software designed for corpus linguistics studies called e Antwordprofiler was used to count the coverage/frequency of occurrence of three types of Nation’ vocabulary classification. The results showed that the examined course books contain sufficient coverage of English high frequency words as required by theory that they contain a total coverage of 84.14 % of high frequency English word enlisted in the General Service List (GSL). However, in terms of the coverage of academic and technical vocabulary, these course books content were still considered under the theoretically acceptable coverage of at least 12,4 % and 5 % respectively. It is recommended that for ELT course books that are used in ESP teaching such as in a field-specific Islamic studies programs, the course books should fulfil the minimum coverage threshold of high frequency, academic and technical vocabulary.

Abstract

This study aims to produce an assessment instrument to assess the ability to think creatively on hydrocarbon material and determine the validity of the assessment instrument. The research method used the research and development model of Borg and Gall. This research stage was carried out until the development stage. The assessment instrument developed in this study consisted of twenty-four items in the essay test, which referred to creative thinking indicators, which consisted of 4 indicators. Validation of the instrument for assessing the ability to think creatively was carried out by three validators with expert validity and validation of the measurement of creative thinking skills by experts measured using the Guttman scale. Based on the validity according to the expert, namely the material, construction and language aspects with the Aikens formula, it was obtained that the average expert validation ranged from 0.87 to 0.94 for the very good category, and 12 questions were declared valid. The validity of measuring the ability to think creatively using the Guttman scale obtained the results of 97.2% declared valid. 12 The developed test instrument is considered valid so that it can be used as a measuring tool to determine students' creative thinking abilities.
