Abstract

Sunlight contains UV rays that adversely affect the skin. These adverse effects can be minimized by the use of UV protective materials, both natural and synthetic. Soursop fruit (Annona muricata L.) has a high content of polyphenol compounds, some vitamins such as vitamin C, B1 and B2. This study aims to determine the activity of UV light protection on soursop juice (Annona muricata L.) by using Sun Protection Factor (SPF) calculation. The measurement of SPF values using the UV-Vis spectrophotometric method in the wavelength range from 290-320 nm. The results showed that soursop juice (Annona muricata L.) had UV light protection activity at 1% concentration of 5,188, 3% concentration of 12.242 and 5% concentration of 17,247. Abstract

Cabbage Purple (Brassica oleracea var. Capitata L.) is one of the genus Brasica genus that is widely available in Indonesia. Purple cabbage has many benefits because it has many content, among others, vitamins A, B, C and E, mineral potassium, calcium, phosphorus, sodium and iron, sulforafan and contain anthocyanin. The purpose of this study was to perform and determine the total phenolic content of purple cabbage (Brassica oleracea var, capitata L.). The method used in qualitative analysis is through color reaction by using specific reagent, while for quantitative analysis done by UV-Vis spectrofotometry method. For antioxidant activity test through absorbance analysis of acid error and sample absorbance from observation result on UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The results of this study contain phenolic compounds, as for the total phenolic content of methanol extracts that the purple cabbage (Brassica oleraceavar, capitata L.) Amounted to 1.9873 mgGAE/g extract.

Abstract

Sea holly leaves (Acanthus ilicifolius L.) belongs to Acanthaceae family, contain flavonoid compounds, alkaloids, an phenols. This research aimed to determine the antioxidant activity of sea holly leaf extract by free radical damping method 1,1-Diphenyl-2-Picrylhydrazil (DPPH). The extraction method multilevel maseration using n-hexane extract, ethyl acetate extract, and ethanol extract is 1,55%, 0,65% and 4,97% respectively. On each extract, the antioxidant activity was assayed by DPPH free radical inhibition method by measuring is absorbance at the maximum wavelength of 515nm using UV-VIS spectrophometer with quercetin compound as comparator. The result of antioxidant assay showed that IC50 value, ethanol extract is 34,659 μg/mL (strong antioxidant), ethyl acetate extract is 162,512 μg/mL (weak antioxidant), n-hexane extract is361,730 μg/mL (not active as antioxidant).

Abstract

Several of Calophyllums genus have been searched and proven as medicinal plants and Calophyllum macrophyllum is one of its genus. We have been isolated a compound from ethyl acetate fraction of the stem-bark. The compound was flavan-3-ol (5,7,2’,5’-tetrahydroxy flavan-3-ol). This research aimed to determine inhibition antidiabetic activity and affinity of its compound on α-glycosidase enzyme. In vitro antidiabetic effect shown by IC50 9.10 µg/ml and docking by Arguslab 4.01 shown by ΔG -10,24 kkal/mol as in silico test. The inhibition activity of flavan-3-ol against the α-glucosidase enzyme that is very strong shows its promising potential as a candidate for antidiabetic drugs.

Abstract

Siwak merupakan tumbuhan berfamili salvadoraceae yang biasa digunakan oleh kaum muslimin untuk membersihkan gigi. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk membuat formula ekstrak hard lozanges etanol Salvadora persica L. Formulasi hard lozanges menggunakan variasi konsentrasi sukrosa: laktosa (F1; 70%: 30%, F2; 50%: 50%, F3; 30%: 70%) dengan metode pembuatan campuran percetakan. Tablet dievaluasi meliputi pengujian organoleptis, berat keseragaman, waktu melemahkan, dan uji kekerasan. Adapun hasil evaluasi uji organoleptis setiap formula berbau strawberry berwarna merah muda dan tawar, hambar,kurang manis, hasil uji keseragaman bobot (F1; 3,00 g, F2; 3,04 g, F3; 3,06 g), disentegrate time test (F1) ; 9,5 menit, F2; 6,33 menit, F3; 5,66 menit), uji kekerasan (F1; 19 kg / cm2, F2; 20 kg / cm2, F3; 13,5 kg / cm2). Dari hasil yang menunjukkan formula 1, 2 dan 3 pengujian yang memenuhi syarat dalam farmasi. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa salvadora persica dapat dibuat menjadi hard lozanges.

Abstract

Senyawa antioksidan alami dapat ditemukan dalam buah-buahan. Salah satu contoh limbah tanaman yang merupakan sumber antioksidan alami yaitu kulit buah naga (Dragon fruit) yang merupakan limbah buah naga (Hylocereus polyrhizus) yang pemanfaatan dan penelitiannya masih terbatas. Pada Penelitian ini dilakukan Isolasi Senyawa antioskidan yang terdapat pada kulit buah naga merah (KBNM). simplisia KBNM segar diekstraksi dengan metode maserasi dengan menggunakan pelarut methanol. Proses selanjutnya dilakukan pemisahan kepolaran kandungan kimia dengan metode cair-cair, esktrak disuspensikan menggunakan air dan di partisi dengan hexan dan etil asetat. Fraksi n-heksan direkristalisasi selanjutnya dilakukan isolasi menggunakan kromatografi lapis tipis (KLTP). Berdasarkan hasil KLTP fraksi n-heksan diperoleh 8 pita tetapi hanya pita 6 (isolat I) dan 8 (isolat II) yang aktif sebagai antioksidan setelah penyemprotan DPPH. Hasil spektroskopi UV-Vis isolat II diduga merupakan senyawa flavonoid. Hasil pengujian aktivitas antioksidan diketahui bahwa ekstrak methanol, fraksi n-heksan dan etil asetat dari kulit KBNM (Hylocereus polyrhizus) memiliki aktivitas antioksidan yang kurang aktif, sedangkan fraksi air tidak aktif sebagai antioksidan.

Abstract

Malaria is a serious disease caused by Plasmodium parasites and is transmitted by the salivary glands of female Anopheles mosquito. The manuran (Coptosapelta tomentosa Valeton ex K.Heyne) is empirically used as a malarial treatment. The study aimed to determine the IC50 value of ethyl acetate fraction and the coumpounds contained on the C. tomentosa Valeton ex K. Heyne leaf ethyl acetat fraction. The identification of chemical composition used tube test method. The inhibitory activity of heme polymerization in vitro did by Basillico modified method. The identification of chemical contents on the ethyl acetate fraction of C. tomentosa leaf Valeton ex K. Heyne showed positive results containing flavonoid, tannin, saponin, terpenoid, and anthraquinone. The average percentage heme polymerization inhibition of C. tomentosa valeton ex K. Heyne leaf ethyl acetate fraction respectively from large to small concentrations of 97.94; 96.94; 95.01; 91.63; 86.19; 76.12; and 44.83 %. Result of probit analysis, that it has HPIA IC50 value of 0.252±0.009 mg/mL and chloroquine diphosphate was 0.214±0.012 mg/mL. The independent sample T-test showed that there was significant difference between IC50 value of them. The ethyl acetate fraction of C. tomentosa leaf Valeton ex K. Heyne has heme polymerization inhibition activity.

Abstract

One species of canarium genus is Canarium indicum L which is an original plant from Indonesia. Utilization of some canarium nut species which spread around the world had been recognized, such as a source of nutritious food as well as its potency as raw material of medicine based on evidence-based scientific. In traditional medicine, was reported if canarium nut had been used for diabetes mellitus treatment, angina, hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, antirheumatic, expectorant, etc. This article aims to review the chemical composition, nutrient values, and potency of canarium nut as the raw material of medicine. Scientific data were obtained from online search results. From the searching was found that at least eight species of canarium nut reported which is related to chemical composition and its nutrition which also provide ethnopharmacological benefits. Overall results, all identified canarium nut species have a favorable chemical composition and nutritional values that can be utilized as functional, nutritional and medicinal food. Therefore, the result of this study also indicates if the canarium nut from Indonesia, C. indicum L., has not been thoroughly studied. That indicates by the lack of scientific paper which presented about C. indicum from Indonesia.

Abstract

Garlic (Allium sativum L.), ginger emprit (Zingiber officinale var Amarum) and red ginger (Zingiber officinale var Rubrum) contain active compounds from the phenol group which have antioxidant properties. This study aims to determine the ratio of antioxidant activity of red ginger and ginger in garlic-based liquid preparations using DPPH reagent (1.1 diphenyl-2 picrylhydrazyl) and determine its correlation with total phenol and vitamin C levels contained in both liquid preparations. Total phenol content was determined by reacting folin-ciocalteu and vitamin C levels were determined by titrimetric method. Total phenol levels are expressed as mg GAE (Gallic Acid Equivalent) per gram of preparation, antioxidant activity is expressed as IC50 (µg / mL), and vitamin C is expressed as percent (%). The results show that total phenol content of emprit and red ginger in garlic-based preparation were 80,296 mgGAE / g preparations and 159,164 mgGAE / g preparations respectively, antioxidant activity (IC50) for each preparation were 3,310 µg / mL and 2,075 µg / mL respectively and the vitamin C level were 4.338% and 6.372%. Correlation test showed the very strong and significant correlation existed between antioxidant activity and the total phenol levels in both emprit and red ginger-garlic preparation but no significant correlation detected between antioxidant activity and vitamin C levels of both preparations.

Abstract

Gambir mempunyai kemampuan dapat membunuh ataupun menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri. Jahe memiliki kandungan flavonoid dan gingerol yang mempunyai aktivitas antibakteri untuk mulut dan gusi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuat sediaan tablet hisap kombinasi katekin gambir dan jahe dengan variasi jenis pengikat PVP dan Gom arab. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa formula terbaik dari setiap jenis pengikat yaitu formula dengan pengikat gom arab 10% dan formula dengan pengikat PVP K-30 7%. Berdasarkan kemudahan dalam proses granulasi dipilih formula dengan konsentrasi PVP K-30 7% sebagai formula terbaik dengan hasil rata-rata keseragaman bobot tablet 2,0406 g, ukuran tebal 58,9 mm, diameter 21,95 mm, kekerasan 23,63 kp, friabilita 0,14% dan waktu hancur 28 menit 62 detik. Hasil pengujian kadar flavonoid total terhadap ekstrak kering jahe sebesar 2,71 % dan sediaan tablet hisap 2,32%.
