Abstract

The relocation of a state's capital has garnered significant attention in expert discussions, with various perspectives being analysed. This study specifically examines the economic implications of moving the State Capital (IKN) from the standpoint of people's economic development. The primary research question explores how this relocation will affect the population's economic development. Utilising a descriptive qualitative research approach, this study gathered data through documentation, drawing from existing literature on capital relocation. Data analysis involved three stages: data reduction, presentation, and conclusion. A key finding of this research indicates that relocating the national capital positively impacts economic development, particularly benefiting micro, medium, and small enterprises. The new capital city is expected to foster the emergence of numerous small and medium enterprises driven by the increasing demand for infrastructure. Properly situating the national capital is anticipated to stimulate economic growth and promote more equitable development, unlike a Java-centric approach that could lead to imbalanced economic growth.

Abstract

This research investigates customer behaviour in the Indonesian telecommunications sector using Structural Equation Modelling with Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) analysis. Surveying 101 respondents, the study explores the relationships between service quality, service attributes, pricing, satisfaction, and customer intentions to reuse telecom products. Key insights include the significant influence of competitive pricing (price value) on customer retention (continuance to use). Interestingly, customer satisfaction doesn't directly impact the continuance of use, suggesting other factors like network quality might be more pivotal. However, customer satisfaction enhances price value, emphasising its role in perceived service value. Additionally, service quality is a significant determinant of customer satisfaction, and service attributes play a crucial role in shaping perceived value and satisfaction levels. Overall, this research offers valuable insights and strategic recommendations for telecom companies in the Indonesian market, emphasising pricing, service quality, and network attributes as key drivers of customer behaviour.

Abstract

Government communication plays an important role in the two-way relationship between government and society. The development of social media platforms fulfills the information function for the government. The model of using social media is important in connection with the implementation of good governance in the administration of government. The method used in this research is qualitative. In particular, the researchers conducted an FGD (Focus Group Discussion) with the Solo Raya government to obtain information related to social media management. The result of this research is that social media is currently a platform that is often used by the government of the City of Solo Raya to provide information to the public. The function of social media is still minimal to 1) build program support and legitimacy, 2) identify and respond to community needs. 3) Define government services and provide government accountability mechanisms.

Abstract

Religious community relations in Indonesia require much attention as religious identity is frequently used to gain political power. One of the issues that is frequently politicised is the establishment of places of worship. The interrelationships of various groups that unite their power to become a force in legitimising the rejection of the establishment of places of worship must be investigated further. This study employed the Discourse Network Analysis technique to describe the discourse in the news reporting on establishing a church in Palembang. Twenty-five news stories from thirteen Palembang news portals were investigated, analysed using DNA and visualised using Visone. The findings show that various groups are involved, including church-building committees, community organisations, religious organisations, cultural organisations, political parties, and government institutions. The common argument is that the construction of houses of worship must be halted because it does not follow procedures. Political parties are central to this network. This implies that the relevant stakeholders could not keep the conflict out of politics. Meanwhile, the absence of parties who should have been present to maintain tolerance is an important entry point to ensure this does not happen again.

Abstract

The entry of the Korean wave in the early 2000s in Indonesia, which was facilitated by internet technology, has become part of communication activities. This has led to the formation of subcultures of fans of Korean wave products, namely K-Drama and K-Pop, including women's subcultures who like K-drama and K-Pop. This subculture was built and developed through social media such as Facebook and WhatsApp. This article reviews how the digital era has changed how female fans interact to empower themselves through subcultures in the online space, mainly focusing on female fans of K-pop bands and K-dramas. Using the ethnographic research method, the research results show that along with the digital era that continues to develop, the subculture of female fans, initially formed through a physical collective group, has now evolved into a subculture of female fans formed through internet-based interactions. The subculture of female fans in the online space has become a forum for exploring pleasure, creativity, and self-empowerment through text production and reproduction of media texts supported by digital technology. Exploration of fun, creativity, and self-empowerment merged in a sense of sisterhood, participatory and collaborative culture.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic ushered in a new era of technology, pushing everything online and necessitating human adaptation to computers. Industry 4.0 proved invaluable during this pandemic, with Artificial Intelligence (AI) emerging as a key player, particularly in the beloved South Korean music industry, which enjoys international acclaim. The pandemic played a significant role in the increased use of AI within the K-POP industry, with the emergence of the Aespa Girl Group being a pivotal moment in shaping a futuristic concept. This research aims to investigate the recent surge in AI usage as a futuristic K-Pop concept through a qualitative literature study method. This paper contends that AI has the potential to profoundly impact Korean cultural diplomacy, serving as a game-changing element in the realm of digital diplomacy. While AI has traditionally been applied in high-context scenarios, such as search engines or high-tech automotive control systems, its application in cultural contexts could propel South Korea's cultural diplomacy to unprecedented heights, rendering the concept difficult for other nations to replicate.

Abstract

Food security, particularly at the family level, is closely linked to women farmers' effective utilisation of yards. This study emphasises the significance of communication media as valuable sources of information for optimising yard spaces. Various forms of communication media, including forums, electronic, digital, and print media, play a crucial role in this context. The research employs a quantitative approach with qualitative data, adhering to a post-positivistic paradigm. Cluster sampling was used, involving 103 women farmers as the sample group. Quantitative data processing and analysis were performed using the scoring and descriptive methods. The findings reveal that direct communication methods, such as consulting neighbours, family members, fellow farmers within women's groups, and external contacts, are preferred by women farmers. Indirect communication via forums like WhatsApp (WA) meetings also serves as an essential platform for discussions, information exchange, and sharing experiences related to yard utilisation.

Abstract

This study investigates the use of indirect communication strategies within an educational institution in Jakarta, Indonesia, focusing on discussing their significance in achieving communication objectives within professional contexts. The primary emphasis is on how these indirect communication strategies are applied to cultivate supportive relationships and create a favourable professional environment within educational settings. The following research questions guide the ethnographic study: 1) How are indirect communication strategies employed in educational organisations? and 2) What factors influence the adoption of these communication strategies? This research utilised four data collection methods: participant observation, in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, and document analysis. Participants in this study included school principals, vice-principals, teachers, support staff, students, and parents from a state primary school in Jakarta, Indonesia. The study's findings reveal that indirect communication strategies are predominantly employed to achieve various communication objectives, such as conveying humour, expressing frustration, delivering implied messages, seeking assistance, and expressing uncertainty. These strategies are deeply rooted in the cultural context, particularly influenced by Betawi culture, which strongly emphasises preserving social harmony and promoting respectful interactions. Several influential factors, including shared cultural values, power dynamics, and age, were identified as elements affecting the adoption of these indirect communication strategies.

Abstract

In the digital age, militarisation, encompassing police power, soldiers, and various military resources, has become increasingly prevalent in various forms of Philippine media. Thus, "Multimedia Militarisation" best describes how Philippine media instills ideals and manipulates mass audiences to accept the status quo. Right-wing propaganda normalises violence and warfare. In this paper, the authors argue that TV series like "Ang Probinsyano," "The General's Daughter," and "A Soldier's Heart" have played a significant role in shaping social consciousness. They have influenced how people view military personnel and what is philosophically referred to as state apparatuses, which encompass the police, military, justice system, and prison system, along with their respective leaders, as integral members of an ideal society. Furthermore, the authors consider it essential to reference historical instances, such as Hitler's Nazi Germany and Marcosian Philippines, where propaganda played a pivotal role in manipulating social consciousness through the dissemination of false information. The study identifies three main themes: the glorification of the armed branch of government, the normalisation of violence, and the introduction of revolutionary ideology to the public. Finally, this paper adopts a social-historical approach and critically analyses the current state of the country's mainstream media, highlighting its reactionary implications. It emphasises how these media outlets air films that advocate for the necessity of militarisation, all in the context of the progress of Philippine society and the evolving definition of patriotism within a populist cultural setting.
