Abstract

Traffic safety at night is strongly influenced by the quality of road lighting, particularly on newly constructed roads with complex geometric characteristics. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of solar-powered Public Street Lighting (PJU) in improving transportation safety on the Southern Cross Road (JLS) Lot 3 Blitar and to compare it with JLS Lot 7, which is not yet equipped with lighting facilities. The research adopts a qualitative approach through nighttime field observations, visual documentation, road geometry analysis, literature review, and data triangulation with Road Safety Audit (RSA) recommendations. The solar-powered lighting system evaluated is the Integrated Solar System Light (ISSL) 80 W, installed at critical locations such as Spiral–Circle–Spiral (S–C–S) curves, an 80 m bridge, and segments prone to dark spots. The results indicate that increasing the number of lighting units from 49 to 102 significantly enhances visibility, improves drivers’ perception of road geometry, and reduces the risk of single-vehicle and run-off-road accidents. Adequate lighting also contributes to improved psychological comfort for road users. Furthermore, the application of solar energy through the ISSL 80 W system supports energy efficiency and sustainable road infrastructure development

Abstract

The construction of the South Cross Road infrastructure Lot 3 connecting Serang Beach with Sumbersih Village is a strategic effort to improve accessibility, connectivity, and efficiency of goods distribution in the southern coastal area of Java. The success of this project is highly dependent on the efficiency of construction work, especially asphalt compaction considering that the work covers a large volume and is the final stage that directly determines the density level. This study aims to analyze and calculate the productivity value of heavy equipment used in the compaction work of the Asphalt Concrete – Binder Course (AC-BC) layer on the JLS Lot 3 STA 4+000 – 4+100 L segment. The method used is observational research with direct observation in the field to measure primary data such as cycle time, work dimensions, and number of passes. The productivity analysis refers to the Ministerial Regulation of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing Number 1 of 2022. The results of the study show the productivity value (Q) of the main heavy equipment per hour: Dump Truck 101.42 m3/hour (24 units), Asphalt Finisher 137.45 tons/hour (1 unit), Tandem Roller 24.05 tons/hour (1 unit), and Pneumatic Tire Roller 46.69 tons/hour (2 units). These findings provide crucial actual performance data for evaluating work efficiency and improving the quality of road construction implementation. The application of heavy equipment productivity calculations is in line with the global commitment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in supporting the development of reliable, efficient, and sustainable road infrastructure.

Abstract

The settlement characteristics of driven piles and bored piles vary depending on installation methods and subsurface conditions, necessitating accurate evaluation of foundation performance. This study aims to compare the settlement behavior of these two foundation types based on Pile Driving Analyzer (PDA) test results evaluated with reference to ASTM D1143 standards. Data were collected from 31 PDA test points across various projects in Riau Province, covering both driven and bored pile foundations. The analysis was conducted by comparing the maximum settlement values (DMX) obtained from PDA with the allowable maximum settlement (Sf) calculated according to ASTM D1143. The ratio between the actual data and the standard was assessed to determine settlement compliance. The results indicate that several driven and bored piles still exhibit settlement beyond the allowable limit, where the maximum settlement ratio DMX/Sf must be less than 1.00. Additionally, the presence of free-end type curves suggests excessive settlement in several samples. This study provides an important contribution to improving the accuracy of foundation capacity evaluation and serves as a basis for selecting and optimizing foundation design in sustainable infrastructure projects.

Abstract

High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipes are widely applied in clean water distribution systems due to their flexibility, corrosion resistance, and long service life. This study discusses the installation stages of HDPE pipes in a road construction project at the PIER area, including excavation preparation, pipe installation, jointing using the butt fusion method, and hydrostatic pressure testing. The butt fusion process is carried out by controlling temperature, pressure, and heating time in accordance with technical standards to obtain homogeneous joints with strength comparable to the pipe material. Furthermore, hydrostatic pressure testing is conducted to evaluate joint tightness and to ensure the absence of leakage within the piping system. The results indicate that proper field procedures and compliance with applicable standards significantly influence joint quality and the success of pressure testing. This study is expected to serve as a technical reference for the safe and effective implementation of HDPE pipe installations that comply with quality standards.

Abstract

The increasing production of Portland cement contributes significantly to global warming; therefore, the utilization of Fly Ash waste and natural Zeolite as alternative binders in concrete production is worth considering. This research was conducted experimentally using class F Fly Ash as the primary binder with Natural Zeolite substitutions of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%. The activators employed were NaOH 10M and Na₂SiO₃ with a ratio of 1:2 for Fly Ash, and NaOH 1M and HCl 1M for Zeolite. Tests included compressive strength, unit weight, and slump test on cylindrical specimens cured for 28 days. The results showed that a 15% Zeolite substitution achieved the optimum compressive strength of 34.80 MPa (NaOH 1M) and 33.74 MPa (HCl 1M), representing a 28.13% and 24.22% increase compared to GPC NZ 0%. The unit weight of geopolymer concrete was generally lower than that of normal concrete but increased with higher Zeolite content. In terms of cost, geopolymer concrete was 36.51% more expensive than normal concrete; however, its improved mechanical performance and physical properties make the Fly Ash–Zeolite combination a viable and environmentally friendly binder alternative

Abstract

This study analyzes the density of Class A aggregate base course (LPA) on the South Cross Road (JLS) Lot 3 P. Serang–Sumbersih Blitar project, left lane STA 4+125–4+225, focusing on compliance with specified density standards. A descriptive quantitative approach was applied using field density test data from the sand cone method at three points: STA 4+125 L, STA 4+175 L, and STA 4+225 L. Results yielded wet unit weight, moisture content, and dry unit weight values compared to the maximum dry unit weight plan (100% density). STA 4+125 L and 4+175 L achieved 100.44% and 101.71% (moisture 9–11%), meeting and slightly exceeding specifications; STA 4+225 L reached only 94.18% (moisture 18%), due to suboptimal heavy equipment compaction, posing a potential weak point in the pavement structure. Recommendations include material replacement, drying and re-compaction after moisture adjustment, or cement stabilization to Cement Treated Base (CTB).

Abstract

This study evaluates the existing conditions of the Jalan Imam Bonjol along with the three intersections’ performance located within the corridor. The existing condition of the road segment was analyzed using PKJI 2023. The degree of saturation was found to be 0.38 on weekdays, while it was 0.52 on weekends. Although the road segment is not saturated yet, the operational speed data on weekdays show values of 5.3 km/h in the east–west direction and 4.9 km/h in the west–east direction. Meanwhile on weekends, the operational speeds are 6.4 km/h in the east–west direction and 4.9 km/h in the west–east direction. The operational vehicle speeds during peak hours are below the average speed of urban roads according to PKJI 2023, which is 20–50 km/h. Therefore, this study implements a traffic engineering by applying one-way system on one of the intersection approaches, namely Jalan Pisang, through microscopic simulation using the PTV VISSIM. The simulation of the existing condition shows the operational average speed reached 7.43 km/h, average delay was 11.31 seconds, and the average queue length was 4.04 m. Meanwhile, the one-way system simulation on Jalan Pisang resulted in significant changes, namely the average speed reached 7.62 km/h, the average delay amounted to 9 seconds, and the average queue length was equal to 3.82 m. This indicates that the traffic engineering scenario has the potential to improve the performance of the road segment and intersections.

Abstract

Hospitals are essential facilities required to maintain structural integrity and operational continuity during seismic events. This study aims to analyze seismic loads and evaluate inter-story drift in the Oncology Building of Haji Surabaya General Hospital to assess structural safety and compliance with earthquake-resistant design requirements. The analysis was conducted using SAP2000 and Microsoft Excel. The research methodology includes the calculation of dead loads, live loads, and seismic loads based on site-specific seismic parameters and local soil characteristics. The results indicate that the eight-story reinforced concrete building with a Special Moment-Resisting Frame system satisfies the required seismic performance criteria. The obtained seismic parameters include a peak ground acceleration (PGA) of 0.3155 g, spectral acceleration parameters Ss of 0.6789 g and S1 of 0.3044 g. Response spectrum analysis yielded SMS and SM1 values of 0.785 and 0.396, respectively, while the design spectral accelerations were determined as SDS = 0.640 and SD1 = 0.570. The fundamental vibration periods of the structure were calculated as T0 = 0.180 s and Ts = 0.890 s, with the building classified as Risk Category IV and Seismic Design Category D. In conclusion, the Oncology Building structure of Haji Surabaya General Hospital meets the seismic performance requirements, with combined modal mass participation ratios of 0.95049 in the X direction and 0.95031 in the Y direction. The structure is considered safe, as the allowable inter-story drift (Δa) exceeds the actual drift values in both directions
