Abstract

Energy-efficient power sources are something that the government is promoting for implementation in the future. The increasing demand for environmentally friendly, mobile, and portable power sources requires a solution. This study explores the design and implementation of a mobile photovoltaic charging station, which aims to provide an environmentally friendly and efficient power source for electric vehicles and all light electrical appliances, such as those used in households and carpentry. This research began with the design and functional testing of the device. This charging station utilizes a 500-Watt Peak (WP) solar panel, a 12V 100 Ah deep-cycle lead-acid battery, and a 400-W up to 220V pure sine-wave inverter to support an average load of 300 Wh, lasting at least 1.5 hours when fully charged. After successful operation, the device collected 7 daily data points for comparison with previous data, allowing the effectiveness of the Mobile Photovoltaic Station with Single Axis Solar Tracking to be evaluated. The results of the study show that Mobile Photovoltaic Stations with Single Axis Solar Tracking generate 37.97% more electricity than static Photovoltaic Stations. These findings are expected to contribute to the development of sustainable mobile charging infrastructure, addressing critical needs in a rapidly evolving technological and environmental landscape.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effect of curing methods based on Bacillus subtilis suspension on the compressive strength of cement mortar. The curing methods included immersion and wrapping using flannel cloth, non-woven geotextile, and plastic wrapping, with bacterial suspension concentrations of 3%, 6%, 9%, and 12%, and curing ages of 7, 14, 28, and 56 days. Compressive strength tests were conducted on control mortar and bacterial-treated mortar in accordance with standard testing procedures. The results indicate that mortars cured using Bacillus subtilis suspension exhibited higher compressive strength than the control mortar at all curing ages. The strength enhancement became more pronounced at 28 and 56 days, reaching a maximum value of 55.07 MPa for immersion curing, compared to 36.48 MPa for the control mortar. Wrapped curing methods also produced higher compressive strength values than the control, reaching 39.18 MPa, indicating effective moisture retention during the curing process. The variation in bacterial concentration showed an optimum trend, suggesting that compressive strength improvement does not increase proportionally with higher bacterial concentrations. Overall, the findings demonstrate that Bacillus subtilis–based curing methods significantly improve mortar compressive strength and have strong potential as an alternative, practical, and sustainable curing approach.

Abstract

The selection of deep excavation retaining systems in Indonesian clay soils is commonly performed based on practical experience without systematic parametric guidance. This study develops selection criteria between diaphragm walls and secant piles through a comprehensive parametric study using the finite element method. A total of 216 numerical models were simulated using Optum G2 software, varying wall type (diaphragm wall and secant pile), excavation depth (4, 8, and 12 m), groundwater table position, building surcharge load (25 kN/m), soil type (soft clay with N-SPT = 4 and stiff clay with N-SPT = 15), and constitutive model (Mohr-Coulomb and Hardening Soil). Results demonstrate that the Hardening Soil model produces 30–39% lower deformations compared to Mohr-Coulomb. Secant piles proved more cost-efficient across all 216 scenarios analyzed, achieving up to 50% cost savings for shallow excavations under low-risk conditions. The most influential parameters on wall performance are, in order: soil type, excavation depth, groundwater table position, constitutive model, surcharge load, and wall type. The resulting design charts and decision matrices serve as preliminary design tools within the SNI 8460-2017 framework.

Abstract

Bamboo has become a preferred construction material to replace wood because it has superior mechanical strength and is environmentally friendly. One of the superior bamboo species is petung bamboo (Dendrocalamus asper). Petung bamboo is known for its large stem size and high strength, making it potentially used as a structural material. However, the hollow and fibrous shape of bamboo makes it prone to breaking, especially when stress concentration occurs with a small contact area at the joint. Bamboo stems can break due to uneven shrinkage and expansion. In this condition, filling is carried out in the stem cavity of the bamboo connection system, one of which is by filling with mortar. This study aims to determine the effect of the presence of mortar as a filling in the bamboo stem on the mechanical properties related to the analysis of bolt spacing in the intact bamboo connection system including shear strength and bearing strength as well as determining the value of the physical properties of bamboo in the form of water content and density. The study was conducted experimentally referring to the ISO 22157–2019 standard. The test specimens consisted of Petung bamboo with and without mortar filling as a comparison. It is hoped that the results of this study will reveal the extent to which the use of mortar as a filling in bamboo stems can improve the shear resistance and bearing strength of bamboo stems, thereby providing additional references for the design of intact bamboo joints that use mortar filling in the stems.

Abstract

Continuous population growth directly affects raw water demand as a fundamental component in planning sustainable water supply systems. This study aims to comparatively analyze the geometric, arithmetic, and linear regression (least square) methods in projecting population growth for the period 2020–2045 and to estimate raw water demand based on these projections. A quantitative approach was employed using secondary population data from 2010–2024. Statistical analyses included the calculation of mean, standard deviation, and correlation coefficients to evaluate the consistency and reliability of each method. The results indicate that all methods demonstrate a strong positive correlation with time, with the highest correlation coefficient observed in the arithmetic method (0.9967), followed by the geometric method (0.9957), and linear regression (0.9444). Population projections for 2045 reveal variation among the methods, with the linear regression model producing the highest estimate. Consequently, projected raw water demand increases steadily toward the end of the projection period. This study provides a comparative statistical framework that can support more accurate and sustainable raw water supply planning in the future

Abstract

The pre-construction stage is a critical phase that frequently causes delays in large-scale infrastructure projects. This study aims to identify and analyze the delay risks during the pre-construction stage of the Bengkalis Bridge, which connects Bengkalis Island to the mainland of Sumatra. The methodology employed is a mixed-methods approach, utilizing questionnaire surveys distributed to 78 respondents comprising government officials, private sector representatives, and experts/academics to determine the Relative Importance Index (RII) rankings. The quantitative data were subsequently validated through in-depth interviews with relevant ministries/agencies and infrastructure public policy experts. The findings identified 33 risk variables divided into 6 categories, with 17 variables classified as dominant risks. The primary risk groups encompass funding availability, political and regulatory uncertainties, land acquisition constraints, and uncontrollable events (force majeure/unforeseen conditions). Risk mitigation approaches must be executed comprehensively rather than partially. The formulation of an integrated risk management strategy includes efforts to designate the development as a National Strategic Project (PSN), implement land acquisition regulations (Government Regulation No. 19/2021 in conjunction with Government Regulation No. 39/2023), and optimize the national budgeting mechanism

Abstract

Effective public transportation services are one strategy to reduce public dependence on private vehicles and support urban transportation integration. One implementation is the Musi Emas LRT feeder transportation in Palembang City, which operates through a Buy-The-Service (BTS) scheme. This study aims to analyze the operational characteristics, Operational cost (BOK), and fare levels of the Musi Emas LRT feeder transportation on the Talang Kelapa–Talang Buruk and Asrama Haji–Sematang Borang corridors based on the BOK The study used a quantitative approach through field surveys, interviews, and questionnaires distributed to 400 respondents. The BOK analysis was conducted based on the Decree of the Director General of Land Transportation No. KP.792/AJ.205/DRJD/2021. The results show that the total BOK for both corridors reaches IDR 13,039,665,062 per year. The Operational cost fare is IDR 11,459 per passenger on the Talang Kelapa–Talang Buruk corridor and IDR 20,738 per passenger on the Asrama Haji–Sematang Borang corridor. The significant difference between BOK rates and user capabilities demonstrates the importance of government subsidies in the sustainability of BTS as well as tariff setting that takes into account the balance between operator and user interests

Abstract

This study analyzes the effect of steel fiber addition on the workability, compressive strength, and split tensile strength of f’c 30 MPa concrete. Steel fiber contents of 0%, 5%, and 7% by total weight of concrete mix materials (equivalent to 0, ±112.4, and ±157.4 kg/m³, respectively) were investigated. Thirty-six cylindrical specimens (Ø15 cm × 30 cm) were tested at 7 and 28 days per SNI 7656:2012. Steel fiber addition significantly reduced slump values (7.5, 5.0, and 3.0 cm), decreased 28-day compressive strength from 31.97 MPa to 26.79 MPa (5%) and 23.39 MPa (7%), and increased split tensile strength from 2.45 MPa to 4.29 MPa (5%) and 4.20 MPa (7%). One-way ANOVA confirmed significant differences among variations (compressive strength: F = 34.86 > Fₜₐₕₑ = 5.14, α = 0.05; split tensile strength: F = 12.97 > Fₜₐₕₑ = 5.14, α = 0.05). The 5% steel fiber variation proved most effective, delivering the highest tensile strength improvement while maintaining acceptable workability.

Abstract

Roller barrier is a road safety barrier innovation that uses a rotating cylinder system to absorb collision energy. Although it has been installed at 15 road sections in Indonesia and proven to contribute to reduced accident fatalities, its adoption remains limited. This study aims to analyze the perceptions of key stakeholders toward roller barrier usage in Indonesia through a descriptive qualitative approach with a multi-informant study design. Data were collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews with the West Java Provincial Transportation Agency (Dishub) and roller barrier distributors in Indonesia. Analysis was conducted using thematic analysis (Braun & Clarke, 2006) with source triangulation. Results show that both stakeholder groups acknowledge the relative advantage of roller barriers over conventional guardrails, but significant barriers exist: high installation costs (IDR 17,000,000/meter), non-compliance with the minimum 40% Local Content Level (TKDN) requirement, limited vehicle crash test facilities in Indonesia, and regional budget constraints. Triangulation findings identified a perception gap between Dishub as policy users and distributors as market actors, particularly regarding regulatory readiness and procurement ecosystems. This study recommends accelerating national standardization, developing domestic production, and establishing adaptive financing schemes to promote wider adoption of roller barriers.

Abstract

Informal terminals are unofficial public transport stopping points that generate side friction and may degrade the performance of urban unsignalized intersections. This study evaluates the performance of the Sikumana four-leg unsignalized intersection in Kupang City and quantifies performance changes caused by informal terminal activities. A quantitative descriptive case-study approach was applied using the Indonesian Highway Capacity Guidelines (PKJI) 2023, with level of service classified according to HCM 2000. Primary data were collected through surveys of geometry, traffic volume, speed, side friction, and informal terminal activities over seven days during three peak periods. Four scenarios were analyzed: existing 2025 with the informal terminal, 2025 without it, and 2030 projections with and without it. At the peak hour (Monday, 11 August 2025, 17.00–18.00), traffic flow reached 2,765.60 pcu/hour against a capacity of 2,701.10 pcu/hour, yielding a degree of saturation of 1.024, delay of 20.184 sec/pcu, queue probability of 42.15–83.59%, and LoS C. Removing the informal terminal increased capacity by 2.15%, reduced the degree of saturation to 1.002 and delay to 19.160 sec/pcu, yet the intersection remained oversaturated at LoS C. The 2030 projection shows LoS E in both scenarios; therefore, informal terminal management should be combined with staged traffic management.
