Abstract

The economic value of sea cucumbers is high in the market and is similar to other fishery commodity products. The high economic value causes the fishing effort to increase. The level of fishing that is not balanced with the availability of resources can threaten the existence of the population. This study aims to examine the density, size distribution, distribution pattern, population presence and growth pattern of sea cucumbers in Letman waters. The sampling method is a random method. The sea cucumbers found at the research site consisted of 8 species with a density range of 0.04-0.24 ind/m2. The results of measurements of temperature, salinity and pH at the study site obtained temperatures ranging from 29-31°C, salinity ranging from 28-31‰ and pH ranging from 8.11-8.26. The length of the sea cucumbers ranges from 10.5-31.52 cm, the diameter size ranges from 3.00-10.03 cm and the weight size ranges from 51.5-611.09 gr. The distribution pattern of sea cucumbers is grouped with an Id value of 1.23. The existence of sea cucumbers showed a low diversity value (H' = 0.42), low uniformity (E = 0.234) and the dominance was classified as stable (C = 0.83). The growth pattern of sea cucumbers obtained a b value of 2.16 so that it is classified as negative allometric (b < 3).

Abstract

Fish is part of the diet which is a source of animal protein which is very beneficial for health. To meet the availability of fish-based food, it can be processed into various processed products, one of which is shredded fish. Shredded fish still has a drawback, such as the low fiber content. To enrich the fiber content of shredded fish, fortification with banana blossoms can be an alternative. The process of making shredded fish does not yet have a standard because many methods and spices are added, so there are variations in the types and amounts of spices used. This causes the quality of shredded fish to vary. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the chemical properties of the effect of different concentrations on banana blossoms fortification in the processing of shredded tuna. The research was conducted in June-August 2022 at the Fish Product Technology Laboratory and the Chemical Engineering Laboratory, Universitas Brawijaya. The study design was a non-factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The results were analyzed using ANOVA (α 5%) and Tukey's post hoc test. The results showed that banana blossoms fortification had no significant effect on the peroxide value and water content of shredded tuna. Banana blossoms fortification has a significant effect on the hedonic value of the appearance, taste, and texture of shredded tuna. However, it has no significant effect on the hedonic aroma value and overall acceptance. The value of the proximate composition of shredded tuna with the best treatment level was 70%, i.e. protein content of 14.51%, fat content of 36.19%, ash content of 6.82%, carbohydrate content of 29.15%, and total dietary fiber of 20.80%. The fat and protein content of shredded tuna does not meet the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) for shredded products.

Abstract

The waters of the Haruku Strait have very fluctuating water mass movements caused by various oceanographic factors, making the water column very dynamic. This study aims to study and analyze the physical oceanographic characteristics of the waters in the form of temperature and salinity distribution. Research data was taken and recorded by CTD on each transect then tabulated and analyzed using Microsoft Excel, Surfer and Ocean Data View (ODV). The results of data analysis showed that the temperature value at the observation station, from sea surface to a depth of 25 meters, ranged from 28.71–29.6 oC, while at a depth of 50–100 meters, the temperature ranged from 24.68–28.11 oC. The distribution of salinity values in sea surface waters to a depth of 25 m ranges from 33,12–33,60 psu while at a depth of 50–100 m the temperature ranges from 33,83–34,38 psu. The characteristics of the water mass are influenced by the mass of water from the Banda Sea and the Seram Sea, freshwater input from the mainland, and community activities on the coast. In general, the water column has a different temperature and salinity stratification for each depth. The temperature conditions will decrease, and the salinity value will increase with increasing depth.

Abstract

The domestication of java combtail (Belontia hasselti Cuvier, 1831) has not been carried out so far, its existence in nature is getting less and less. This causes the domestication of java combtail to be very important, so that it can maintain sustainability and meet market demand for these fish. Stocking density is one of the factors that influence the development of gonadal maturity levels. The purpose of this study was to determine the best stocking density in the maturation of java combtail broodstock. This research was conducted at the Sriwijaya Reservoir, Aquaculture Laboratory and Experimental Ponds, Department of Fisheries, Universitas Sriwijaya. The test fish used were obtained from the catch of fishermen in the swamp area on the Belida River, Gumai Village. The results of the rearing of java combtail with different stocking densities in P2 treatment significantly affected the male gonad maturity index of 1.11±1.63% and females of 13.91±17.06%, male gonad index of 7.98±10 .53 and females 81.63±107.54, fecundity of 4174±4884 eggs and egg diameter of 40.34±45.97 m. Meanwhile, the maturity level of fish gonads was faster, especially in female java combtail (B. hasselti Cuvier, 1831) at TKG IV.

Abstract

The use of fossil energy as a source of fuel to turn on generators on fishing boats has long been used to assist fishing activities in Tablolong Village. The availability and lack of good use of this energy continuously will certainly be very bad for the sustainability of the fishermen's economy and the environment. The utilization of solar energy which has such great potential in East Nusa Tenggara can be one solution. The use of this technology is in line with the Blue Economy policy by the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Republic of Indonesia. This 80 Wp PV system is installed on a 3 GT ship, then the energy that can be generated is analyzed and the Wilcoxon test is carried out to determine the fishermen's response to the use of the PV System. The utilization of the PV System as a source of electrical energy on 3GT vessels in Tablolong Village can meet the electrical energy needs of fishing boats. The electrical energy generated can meet 189% of the ship's electricity needs of 320 Wh/day with energy that can be produced by PV of 604.04 Wh/day. This result is also supported by the Wilcoxon test of the energy produced by PV for the ship's electrical energy needs. Based on the assessment indicators that have been carried out from before and after PV installation activities on fishing boats, it was found that there was a significant difference in the electrical energy needs before and after using PV System with a significant value of 0.001 (p < 0.05).

Abstract

Porites coral is a type of hard coral that forms micro atolls that can survive extreme tides and has a physical function to protect the coast and an ecological function. This study aims to determine the area and pattern distribution of micro atoll, and the types of associated organisms. The research method used is a survey method and is carried out by taking ecological, oceanographic, and biota data found in micro atolls. Data collection was carried out at two stations in the south and north of Badi Island using a quadratic transect placed parallel to the shoreline. Oceanographic conditions around Badi Island meet the sea water quality standards for marine biota. The results showed that the average area of micro atolls found at station one was 0.26 m2 and 0.42 m2 at station two with a Morisita Index was 1, so it can be concluded that the Porites coral micro atolls were randomly distributed. The results of biota identification at both stations showed that the dominant biota in the micro atoll was Tridacna. The conclusion of the study is that there are differences in the area of micro atolls at the two stations but have similarities in distribution patterns and dominant biota.

Abstract

Natsepa Beach is one of the famous tourist areas on Ambon Island. The presence of tourists in the area contributes to the production of both organic and inorganic waste which affects not only the aesthetics of the area but also the income of economic agents. The study aims to analyse waste composition, waste generation, and the recycling potency in Natsepa Beach. The study was conducted from July to August 2022 by applying a field observation method. The procedure of SNI 19-3964-1994, which regards urban waste collection methods to measure the composition and waste generation, was applied in this research. The results showed that the amount of organic waste, which is dominated by fruit peel waste (from rujak or fruit salads), is about 92.21%, whereas it is only about 7.79% of inorganic waste that comes from plastic waste. Total weight of waste that is generated by a person is around 0.12 kg/day or 0.46 liters/day in volume standard. Thus, it can be assumed that every visitor in Natsepa Beach produces 0.12 kg (0,11 kg of organic and 0,01 kg of inorganic waste). The potency to recycle organic waste into compost is 100% and eco enzyme is 78.52%. Furthermore, the potential plastic waste recycling is about 77.19%.
