Abstract

Mathematical disposition can help students overcome difficulties in learning mathematics more effectively. With the mediation of mathematical disposition, the positive influence of self-directed learning can more easily lead to increased students' problem-solving abilities. This research aims to explore the role of mathematical disposition as a mediator in influencing learning difficulties and self-directed learning on problem-solving abilities. The survey method was used to collect data based on probability sampling from 32 students from class 5 at MI Ma'arif Patihan Wetan. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire consisting of a Likert scale with 4 alternative answers. PLS-SEM analysis was used to analyze data and test and evaluate the construction of variables measuring problem-solving abilities. The results of the analysis show that problem-solving abilities are not significantly influenced by learning difficulties (β=0.000; ρ=0.998) and self-directed learning (β=0.000; ρ=0.061). In addition, mathematical disposition was proven to mediate the influence of learning difficulties (β=0.443; ρ=0.000) and self-directed learning (β=0.214; ρ=0.286) on problem-solving abilities. These findings highlight the importance of mathematical disposition in facilitating problem-solving abilities through learning difficulties and self-directed learning. The practical implication of this research is the need for a holistic approach in developing a positive attitude towards mathematics as an integral part of the learning approach. This research supports efforts to provide a learning environment that supports, motivates, and encourages students to develop positive mathematical dispositions. As well as emphasizing the development of metacognitive skills and utilizing learning technology to facilitate interaction and collaboration between students in exploring mathematical concepts.

Abstract

Differentiated instruction is a key educational strategy tailored to each student's unique needs. Within Sekolah Penggerak, this approach holds significant potential for enhancing educational quality. This study employs a case study method to assess its implementation across five elementary schools: three from Sekolah Penggerak Cohort 1 (SP1) and two from Cohort 2 (SP2). Conducted in early 2023, data were collected through interviews, observations, questionnaires, and field notes. The findings show that 33% of SP1 schools have designed their own School Operational Curriculum (KOSP) according to students' needs, while 67% are still modifying KOSP from the Ministry of Education while involving stakeholders. All SP2 schools are also modifying KOSP but involve stakeholders in the design. However, teachers struggle to find appropriate methods, and differentiated assessment remains suboptimal. This research underscores the need for a contextual and focused instructional and assessment model to better meet students' needs and serve as a guide for differentiated instruction implementation.

Abstract

This research aimed to measure prospective teachers' cultural awareness in learning using web and ethnoscience-based media. Then, to confirm the me-dia's feasibility, we conducted teaching material verification tests and media verification tests utilizing Borg Gall theory. A mixed method study was used in data collection techniques, including observations, documentation, and interview. Following the qualitative, quantitative verification test was conducted by two verifiers, with the first verifier, media professionals, rated highly effective with an average of 96.6%. In contrast, the average percent-age of material expert verifiers was 98%, rated highly effective. The results showed that the student's cultural knowledge increased statistically signifi-cantly with 5% alpha after learning science using the media. The average n-gains for the three grades were high, with no differences among the three grades, and over 93% of students responded positively to the media. Ethno-science and web-based learning media meet the media eligibility criteria: val-id, practical, and effective to improve students' cultural awareness in science classrooms.
