Abstract

This research is intended to find the psychological conflict faced by the major character in the Gillian Flinn novel. It is a content analysis study that belongs to qualitative research. The researcher read the novel several times to collect the data and also to analyze the data. It is done several times to get a deeper understanding of the information related to the psychological conflict in the novel. While reading the researcher give a code to the data for description the conflict. The analysis of this research is done using Freud’s theory of psychology, a psychoanalysis Freud. The result shows that there are two kinds of psychological conflicts in ‘Sharp Objects’ novel. They are approach-avoidance conflict and avoidance-avoidance conflict that describing that all the characters have a conflict because of the id, ego, and superego are inconsistency condition.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out whether or not there is a significant correlation between Students' Achievement in Speaking for Professional Context and their self-efficacy of English Education Research Program at STKIP-PGRI Lubuklinggau in the academic year 2016/2017. The researcher investigated this research through the descriptive correlation method. The data were analyzed by using Person Product Moment formula. Based on the result of data analyzed, it was found out that r-table was 0.288 and r-obtained was 0.546. Therefore, alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. It meant that there was a positive correlation between Students' Achievement in Speaking for Professional Context and their self-efficacy. However, the strength of correlation level was considered insufficient classification. The conclusion showed that the students' self-efficacy had influenced students' speaking achievement.

Abstract

This classroom action research was intended to improve the first year students’ reading achievement using gallery walk strategy at SMKN 1 KALIPURO Banyuwangi in the 2016/2017. The subjects of this research were class X NKN 1. This class was determined purposively because most of the students got low score of the reading process and could not achieve the students passing level. The classroom action research consisted of one cycle with four meetings. The data about the students reading achievement were collected through reading exercise, reading test and observation. Based on the observation in the first meetings, there were 60% or 19 out of 32 students who showed a positive attitude in teaching learning process through gallery walk strategy. Then, it increases to 87% or 28 students who showed a positive attitude in teaching learning process using gallery walk strategy in the last meeting. The result of reading exercise from first meeting until the last meeting also increase, from 50% or 16 students in the first meeting to 75% or 24 students in the last meeting. The result of reading test in cycle one showed that there were 26 students or 81% of the students achieved the target. To sum up, the use of gallery walk strategy is effective to improve students’ reading achievement and students’ participation in teaching and learning process

Abstract

This study investigate the Influence of CLL Method and Students’ Interest towards the Eleventh Grade of SMA Negeri 1 Buay Madang OKU Timur”. In this research, the writer wants to investigate the students’ speaking ability which is being a necessary subject for the learners in their English communication. The main problem of this study “Is there a significant influence of CLL Method and Students’ Interest towards the eleventh grade students’ speaking ability of SMA Negeri 1 Buay Madang OKU Timur?”. The objectives of this study were to find out whether or not CLL Method and students’ interest influence the students’ speaking ability and there was or no a significant interaction effect of CLL Method and students’ interest toward the Eleventh grade students’ speaking ability of SMA Negeri 1 Buay Madang OKU Timur. This study was purposed at investigating the influence of CLL Method and students’ Interest toward the eleventh Grade students’ speaking ability. The population of this study was 216 students of SMA Negeri 1 Buay Madang OKU Timur. From the population, there were 31 students taken as sample of experimental group and 32 students were as control group. The sample was taken using two stages random sampling. In carrying out the research, the writer used a factorial group design. Finally the calculation using a two-way ANOVA was used to measure an interaction between CLL Method and students interest on their speaking ability. Test of Between-Subjects Effects analyses, the interaction between high and low interest to technique was 0.000, the probability sig. of technique was 0.023, and the significant value of the techniques (CLL and conventional) and the students’ interest were 0.923, and which is higher than the significant level of p-value 0.05, it meant that there was no interaction between students’ interest and techniques. So, the research hypothesis that stated “there is no interaction between CLL Method and interest toward students’ speaking ability” was accepted and the null hypothesis was not rejected based on the data on chapter four.

Abstract

This study is about the contrastive analysis of suffixes in English and Uzbek languages. This study was done to find out the differences and similarities of suffixes in English and Uzbek languages and focused on form, function, and meaning. Technique for collecting data in this study is obtained from the documentation, including websites, journals, dictionaries and English and Uzbek morphology and grammar books. This research used the descriptive qualitative method. Contrastive analysis is used to describe the result of the study between English and Uzbek suffixes that had been compared. The result of research showed that there are five differences of suffixes in English and Uzbek in terms of their form, five differences in their function and six differences in their meaning. Also, there are three similarities of suffixes in English and Uzbek in terms of their form, six similarities in their function and three similarities in their meaning.

Abstract

This study concerns with the A Semantic Analysis of Michael Learns to Rock's (MLTR) Songs. This study proposes problems are 1) what are the lexical meanings in the lyrics of Michael Learns to Rock's (MLTR) songs?, 2)What are the contextual meanings in the lyrics of Michael Learns to Rock's (MLTR)? The purpose of this study is to find out the lexical and contextual meaning that is used by Michael Learns to Rock's song lyrics. Therefore, this analysis used the descriptive method because it is to describe the lexical and contextual meaning in MLTR's song lyrics. There are five songs lyrics. Then, in this study, the procedure used in the data collection are (1) reading and comprehending the lyrics; (2) identifying the words used in the lyrics; (3) Marking and finding the meaning of the words found in the lyrics; (4) concluding the data analysis. Based on the finding, the writers found two kinds of meanings used in Michael Learns to Rock's Songs lyrics. They are lexical and contextual meaning used in the lyrics of Michael Learns to Rock's songs. They are 1) Paint My Love consists of 3 words; years, crazy and paint. 2) Sleeping Child consists of 4 words; Milky Way, paradise, cover, and hold. 3) That's Why (You go away) consists of 4 words; Left, thing, man and way. 4) Love will never Lie consists of 4 words; Run-down, road, lie and hear. 5) 25 Minutes consists of 4 words; Girl, done, hungry, and hear.

Abstract

This objective of this study was to know whether or not there are any significant differences between the students who are taught by using Diary media and the students who are taught by using conventional". And for the study was quantitative research by using an experimental method and quasi-experimental design. Moreover, the population of the study covered the entire of the tenth-grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah 02 Karang Tengah in academic year 2017/2018. It consists of 160 students. And the technique sampling was chosen by purposive sampling. There were two groups they are the experimental group(X-A2) with 32 students and the control group( X-S1) consists of 32 students. In this study, the writer used a written test as an instrument for collecting the data. The data obtained from Independent t-test analysis, between the result of posttest in the experimental group and control group. Based on the calculation by using Independent t-test, the writer found that t obtained was higher than t table (3,531 > 2,000) and less than at the significant level α = 0.05(0.001 < 0.05) in a two-tailed test. So, the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It can be concluded that any significant differences between the students who are taught by using Diary media and the students who are taught by using conventional media.

Abstract

The objective of the study was to describe the implication of speaking achievement and Environmental Conscientization by Using Think-Pair-Share to Senior High School Students of Methodist 2 Palembang. Thirty-two people ofSenior High School Students of Methodist 2 Palembang became the sample of the study. The writer used a classroom action research as a method of study. This study consisted of two cycles; cycle I and cycle II. Test and observation were used to collect the data. Data calculation showed that there was a significant improvement on students' speaking achievement and environmental conscientization, the mean score of speaking achievement in cycle I was 57,63 with learning completeness 15,63% and its environmental conscientization was 56. Then, the mean score of speaking achievement in cycle II was 77 with learning completeness 84,38%and it's environmental conscientization was 74. In other words, speaking achievement and local cultural awareness was improved by using think-pair-share. Besides, the students' perception toward the implementation of think pair share was good.

Abstract

The problem of this study is "is it effective using PORPE method to teach reading comprehension at the seventh-grade students of SMP Pangudi Luhur Santo Aloysius Sukaraja OKU Timur?". The objective of the study is "to find out whether or not PORPE method is effective to teach reading comprehension at the seventh grade of SMP Pangudi Luhur Santo Aloysius Sukaraja OKU Timur." In this study, the pre-experimental method was used. The population is all of the seventh-grade students of SMP Pangudi Luhur Santo Aloysius Sukaraja OKU Timur, with the total number of the students 30 students. The sample is 30 students taken through saturated sampling consisting of 30 students as the sample. Based on the description, it could be seen that the result of students pre-test the average score was 5.01 and the result of the student's average score in post-test was 8.01. The result calculation of the matched t-test was 5.45. the t-obtained was higher than t-table 1.699. It means that Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. In another word, the result of the study showed that it was effective teaching reading comprehension by using PORPE method at the seventh-grade students of SMP Pangudi Luhur Santo Aloysius Sukaraja OKU Timur.

Abstract

This study aimed at finding out whether or not there are any significant differences between the students who are taught by using neurological impress method and the students who are taught by using a conventional method in reading ability. The population of this study was 63 students of SMK Nurul Huda Sukaraja. From the population, there were 22 students taken as a sample of experimental class and 21 students were as control class. The sample was taken using purposive sampling. In carrying out the study, the writer used a quasi-experimental design. Finally, the data were analyzed by using the independent t-test formula. And based on the result of findings, it was found that the mean of posttest score in the experimental class was 6.83 and the control class was 5.08. Beside that, the t-obtained was 6.25 and the t-table with df 41 (43-2) with 0.05 significant level was 2.02. therefore, the study concludes that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted because the t-obtained was lowest than the t-table (6.25 > 2.02). It also meant that there were any significant differences between students who are taught by using Neurological Impress Method (NIM) and who are taught by using Conventional Method.
