Abstract

Flash floods are a hydrometeorological disaster that frequently occurs in mountainous watersheds, particularly in areas with land use that is not in accordance with its natural geomorphological conditions. This study aims to analyze the geomorphological characteristics of the Anai Valley, determine the level of flash flood vulnerability based on the integration of biophysical parameters, and assess the contribution of geomorphological mismatches to increasing flash flood vulnerability. This study uses a Geographic Information System (GIS) approach with a weighted overlay method through the integration of slope gradient, soil type, land use, river buffer, and rainfall parameters. The results show that the Anai Valley area is dominated by steep to very steep slopes, volcanic and alluvial soil types, and land use activities that develop along the Batang Anai River. High to very high flash flood vulnerability zones are concentrated in the valley plains and river corridors. Land use mismatches on steep slopes and river boundaries contribute significantly to increased surface runoff and environmental degradation.

Abstract

Flood is one of the most frequent hydrometeorological disasters in Padang City, closely related to land use change and the degradation of watershed functions. Rapid urban development in the Batang Kuranji Watershed has led to the expansion of built-up areas, which reduces land infiltration capacity and increases surface runoff, thereby intensifying flood risk, especially in downstream areas. The advancement of remote sensing technology and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) enables comprehensive spatial analysis to assess land use dynamics and flood hazard distribution at the watershed scale. This study aims to analyze land use changes in Padang City during the 2017–2025 period and to identify flood hazard and vulnerability levels in the Batang Kuranji Watershed based on multiple physical and hydrometeorological parameters. The analysis utilizes Landsat 8 imagery, CHIRPS rainfall data, DEMNAS-derived slope data, soil type information, river buffer analysis, and spatial planning data, which are processed using scoring and overlay methods within a GIS environment. The results indicate a continuous increase in built-up areas accompanied by a reduction in agricultural land and natural vegetation, particularly in the middle to downstream sections of the watershed. Flood hazard analysis shows that most of the watershed area falls into the low to moderate hazard classes; however, areas categorized as high hazard are concentrated in lowland regions and river corridors with dense settlements. These critical zones have limited water absorption capacity and are highly susceptible to flooding and inundation during periods of high rainfall. Therefore, spatial monitoring of land use change and flood hazard distribution is essential as part of an integrated flood mitigation strategy to support sustainable watershed management and spatial planning in Padang City.

Abstract

This study evaluates the internal and external aspects of the Tangkahan destination in order to develop a development scheme that harmonizes economic aspects with tropical forest conservation. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data was collected through direct observation in the field, documentation studies, and in-depth interviews with relevant stakeholders. The findings of the research through a SWOT analysis revealed that Tangkahan has a strong internal foundation with a score of 1.85, which is driven by the unique appeal of the Sumatran elephant as its main icon. However, the progress of this area is still constrained by severely damaged road infrastructure and limited telecommunication connections. From the external side, the great interest of foreign tourists in conservation activities is the main opportunity (score 0.80), but the sustainability of the ecosystem is threatened by the expansion of oil palm plantations which have an equally large threat score. The results of the IFAS and EFAS matrix mapping placed Tangkahan's strategic position at the coordinates (1.05; 0.00), which is between the aggressive and diversified strategy zones

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the management of the Museum Pusaka Nias in the sustainable conservation of culture, biodiversity, and herbal knowledge. The research methodology used is a descriptive qualitative approach with data analysis using SWOT. The results of the analysis show that the main strengths of the Museum Pusaka Nias lie in its collection of authentic, high-value artifacts, cultural legitimacy, indigenous community networks, and education and conservation of various endemic biodiversity owned by the Nias community. The weaknesses of the Museum Pusaka Nias include ticket prices/donations for tourists from outside the region and limited digital infrastructure that is not yet adequate. For opportunities, the Museum Pusaka Nias has considerable opportunities including increasing cultural tourism trends, academic and government partnerships. Meanwhile, threats lie in tectonic natural disasters, coastal abrasion/degradation of coastal ecosystems and degradation of physical collections. As a solution to overcome these, the Museum Pusaka Nias must be able to adapt to current developments such as technological improvements, the development of thematic tour packages, disaster preparedness and collection risk management, multi-stakeholder partnerships and strengthening human resource capacity.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the management of ecotourism attractions at Agrowisata Pelangi located in Metangor Village, Kulim District, Pekanbaru City. The focus of this study is tourism management, tourism facilities, the impact of sustainable tourism. This study uses a descriptive qualitative research method. Data collection techniques are observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that the management of ecotourism attractions at Agrowisata Pelangi relies on educational tourism which has been running quite well. Although it has succeeded in attracting tourists, improvements are needed in the facility aspect which must be consistent in the maintenance and development of facilities and strengthening cooperation with the government for the development of sustainable tourism.

Abstract

The traditional village of Nagari Sijunjung in West Sumatra is one of the ecotourism destinations that combines natural beauty with the rich culture of Minangkabau. This study aims to identify the potential for ecotourism, cultural preservation, and the social and economic impacts on the local community. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data was collected through observation, interviews, and documentation studies. The results of the study show that this area has high appeal as a cultural and environmental tourism destination.

Abstract

This research performs a comprehensive landslide hazard mapping in Kampar Regency by integrating Geographic Information System (GIS) technology with a weighted overlay modeling approach based on four critical physical parameters: slope gradient, rainfall intensity, soil type erodibility, and land use characteristics. Utilizing classification standards from BAPPEDA and weighting methods from Taufik Q, Firdaus et al. (2012) and BNPB Regulation No. 02 of 2012, the study identifies that the region is dominated by rainfall intensities of 2501–3000 mm/year and a significant distribution of Andosol soil types which contribute to soil instability. The spatial analysis results categorize the hazard levels into three classes—Safe, Moderately Prone, and Prone—revealing that XIII Koto Kampar Subdistrict faces the highest risk with a prone area of 88,008.48 hectares (92.36%), primarily due to steep topography and high runoff velocity, whereas Bangkinang Subdistrict is identified as the safest area with a low-risk coverage of 6,836.66 hectares (28.20%). These findings conclude that land use with high vegetation density, such as forests which cover 73,154.26 hectares, plays a vital role in reducing runoff, and the resulting hazard map serves as a crucial spatial decision-support tool for disaster mitigation and regional planning in Kampar Regency.

Abstract

Sayung District, Demak, is a muddy alluvial coastal ecosystem that has experienced severe ecological pressure due to the massive conversion of mangrove land into ponds, which has damaged the natural function of the intertidal zone as a wave buffer and biota habitat. This study aims to: (1) Analyse changes in the coastline and loss of intertidal habitat during the period 1994–2025 using the Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS); (2) Simulate land area dynamics until 2050 using System Dynamics; and (3) Assess the potential for ecosystem restoration for community economic sustainability. The simulation results show that the Hybrid Scenario (integration of mangrove greenbelts and permeable structures) provides the highest effectiveness, drastically reducing the rate of abrasion to 9.65 Ha/year by 2025. This intervention is projected to save 595.71 Ha of land from the threat of permanent submersion compared to the Business as Usual scenario. In addition to stabilising the coastline after 2030, this ecosystem restoration restores environmental services that are crucial for supporting sustainable aquaculture (silvofishery), carbon sequestration potential (Blue Carbon), and ecotourism, offering a holistic adaptation solution for coastal community resilience. Abstract

This study aims to determine the analysis of the management of the suaman hot springs tourism object in pawan village, rambah district, rokan hulu regency. research indicators include tourism facilities, tourism management, tourism quality and tourism impact. this can be seen from the suaman hot springs tourism object which has received less attention from the local government and also there are still many people who do not maintain this tourist attraction properly, it can be seen from the facilities at the suaman hot springs tourist attraction which are still poorly maintained and managed. so that many visitors who come to the suaman hot springs tourist attraction but cannot enjoy the facilities provided and the lack of participation of the local community and visitors in maintaining existing facilities. this study uses qualitative research methods, data collection techniques namely observation, interviews and documentation. the results in this study the management of the suaman hot springs tourism object is currently still carried out locally by the village community with a lack of involvement from the local government. this has an impact on the lack of coordination in planning, implementation, and supervision of tourism activities so that tourism supporting facilities and infrastructure are still inadequate.

Abstract

Tourism is a strategic sector that contributes significantly to economic growth and regional development, but the COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on tourism activities, including educational and conservation-based tourist destinations. This study aims to analyze the tourist attraction and visitor satisfaction at Kasang Kulim Zoo (KKZ), Kampar Regency, Riau Province, in the post-COVID-19 pandemic period. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The results show that the appeal of KKZ is shaped by the diversity of its animal collection, educational and conservation values, natural environment, and family tourism experiences. Post-pandemic visitor satisfaction is influenced by the quality of facilities, cleanliness, comfort, safety, and the alignment between expectations and tourism experiences. Although visitor numbers show a recovery trend, challenges remain in terms of accessibility and facility management. Additionally, the presence of KKZ has a positive impact on the economic recovery of local MSMEs, making sustainable tourism management key to post-pandemic destination development.
