Abstract

Centrifugal pump is commonly used in industry. Centrifugal pumps work by converting mechanical energy into pressure and kinetic energy. In centrifugal pumps, cavitation or decrease in pump performance due to bubbles in the pump cavity is possible. The impact of cavitation is possibly damage the impeller, reduce efficiency, and increase maintenance costs. In this study, the evaluation of cavitation and the calculation of pump and head efficiency are important things to be carried out in assessing the performance of the pumping system. The pump used in this study is a Moswell Aqua 175 centrifugal pump. The piping systems are arranged in series. The variable used is flow discharge with 10 variations. The maximum flow discharge of the Moswell Aqua 175 pump is 60.7 L/min as the highest variation and the lowest variation is 9.4 L/min. The research began by compiling a series of piping systems and then draining water on the pump by varying the discharge of water flow. The calculation in this study is to find the NPSH-A (Net Positive Suction Head – Available) value, head, and pump efficiency. The results of the study showed that the NPSH-A value was above 8m and greater than the NPSH-R (Net Positive Suction Head – Required) value of 3m which means cavitation did not occur in the pump. The head value and efficiency of the pump increase significantly as the flow discharge variation increases. At the highest water discharge, which is 60.7 L/min, a head value of 9.677m was obtained with a pump efficiency of 37.93%. This shows that centrifugal pumps work more efficiently at higher flow rates.

Abstract

Cover Indonesian Growing Bucket has a product defect problem in the form of a warpage caused by a design considered good. There was a discrepancy in the parameter settings with the initial analysis results, resulting in a difference in cooling time of 2.3 s from the original 3.9 s. This happened because parameter changes aimed to reduce warpage cycle time from the original 25.4 s to 23.8 s. Based on the problems, design modifications and analysis were carried out using Solidworks Plastics software. The design modification and analysis process was carried out using the Experiment of Analysis method, which was carried out by modifying the thickness of the part, which resulted in a warpage. The analysis was carried out to obtain optimal thickness results with the smallest cooling time gap. Modifications and design analysis are done by making three (3) alternative thicknesses for the pipe clamp section. The best modification of the three (3) alternatives made will be used as a reference basis for making material cost calculation data. From the results of design modifications and analysis, it was found that the design thickness changed to 1.5 mm. Based on the results of this analysis, alternative options are produced, which are then used as a reference in design modifications so that the resulting fill time and cycle time are more optimal.

Abstract

In this study, Nitrogen-doped Activated Carbons (NAC) with different Nitrogen concentrations (NAC1, NAC2, NAC3) and Manganese Dioxide (MnO2) were composited to make the hybrid active material for supercapacitor electrodes to improve the energy density of NAC by adding the pseudo-redox capacitive properties of NAC/MnO2 composite electrode. NAC active material was made from the pyrolyzing biomass carbon and Polyaniline mixture at 800 °C in a nitrogen atmosphere for 2 hours. NAC/MnO2 hybrid material was synthesized by heating NAC: MnO2 with a ratio of 5:1 at 400 °C for 2 hours. Peaks analysis of X-ray diffraction of NAC/MnO2 powder shows that the MnO2 phase was formed as a composite with NAC. The electrochemical performance of the NAC3/MnO2 electrode exhibited the highest capacitance of 168 Fg-1 at a scan rate of 5 mVs-1 in Potassium Iodide (KI)-added Na2SO4 electrolyte. According to the Cycle Voltammetry (CV) measurement, the NAC3/MNO2 composite electrode shows hybrid capacitive behavior consisting of pseudo-redox and double-layer electrostatic energy storage mechanisms in KI-added Na2SO4 electrolyte. NAC3/MnO2 composite electrode demonstrates a high energy density of 22 Whkg-1 at 5 mVs-1.

Abstract

The use of aluminum is increasing in the industrial sector, which is accompanied by an increase in aluminum waste if it is not handled quickly and appropriately, which will have a negative impact on the environment. Recycling is an alternative to overcome this problem. Recycling piston waste into pistons, data was obtained that there are insoluble aluminum elements, namely Cu, Fe, Si. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of recycling aluminum into pistons by tensile and impact testing with the addition of Cu 0.5%-1.5% & Fe 1%-1.5% with various tensile test speeds of 5mm/minute, 10mm/minute, and 15mm/min. The research uses independent variables, namely the addition of Cu & Fe to aluminum waste and the dependent variable is tensile strength testing and specific impact strength. The results of this research can determine how much Fe and Cu content is added in order to reach the standard piston content, increasing the hardness of aluminum without reducing the hardness and ductility too much, which is known from the strength values of recycled aluminum pistons through specific tensile and impact tests with average stress values. The highest was in Cu 1% - 1.5% & Fe 1% - 1.5% alloy with a tensile testing speed of 11 mm/minute of 196.19 MP, while the lowest stress value was obtained from Copper (Cu) 1% - 1.5 % & Iron (Fe) 0.5%-1% with a tensile testing speed of 8 mm/minute of 120.72 N/m2. The largest impact energy for aluminum piston specimens was obtained at 0.294 J in 1% - 1.5% Copper (Cu) and 1% - 1.5% Iron (Fe) alloys.
