Abstract

Brain tumors are diseases that require early detection and accurate diagnosis. Various studies have applied deep learning methods to classify MRI images of brain tumors, but they still face dataset limitations and imbalanced class distributions that impact model performance. This study aims to evaluate the performance of the transfer learning-based VGG16 model in classifying brain tumors using MRI images. The study used 7,023 MRI images, including glioma, meningioma, pituitary, and no tumor, with a balanced training data distribution. Pre-processing included resizing, data splitting, and augmentation in the form of rotation, width shift, height shift, and zoom to increase data diversity and reduce the impact of class imbalance. The model was trained using several training-validation data splits (70:30, 80:20, and 90:10) with variations of the Adam, RMSprop, and AdamW optimizers and learning rates between 0.1 and 0.0001. The best configuration was obtained in the 80:20 scenario with the Adam optimizer and a learning rate of 0.0001, which was used in the final testing stage using test data that were never used during training and validation. The results showed the highest validation accuracy of 99.89% and a testing accuracy of 98.00%. Confusion matrix analysis showed that all classes could be classified well without prediction bias.

Abstract

Infectious disease is a type of disease caused by invasion by microbiological agents, such as bacteria. One type of bacteria is Staphylococcus aureus which is a Gram-positive bacteria. The definitive therapy for bacterial infections is the administration of antibiotics. However, overuse of antibiotics leads to bacterial resistance. One of the efforts to overcome this is with alternative antibiotics made from herbs, such as Tulsi (Ocimum tenuiflorum L.). This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of Tulsi ethanolic extract against S. aureus. This research was conducted at the Analysis Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, Warmadewa University from October to November 2024. The research design used a true experimental method with a posttest only control group design model, namely by testing the antibacterial activity of Tulsi ethanolic extract with concentrations of 25%, 50%, and 75% against S. aureus. In the antibacterial test results, the diameter of the inhibition zone formed at concentrations of 25%, 50%, and 75% was 5.25 mm, 5.90 mm, and 7.22 mm, respectively. Based on the One Way ANOVA test results, the P value <0.001 was obtained, which means there is a significant difference between the treatment groups. Based on this study, it can be concluded that Tulsi ethanolic extract has moderate antibacterial activity.

Abstract

This research is based on the persistently low critical thinking skills of students and the suboptimal internalization of religious character values in the learning process in elementary schools. Learning that is still oriented toward memorization and teacher-centered approaches results in students being less engaged in reflective, dialogical, and contextual activities. However, the demands of 21st-century education and the Pancasila Student Profile emphasize the importance of strengthening religious character and critical reasoning skills in an integrated manner starting from elementary school. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the RADEC learning model in strengthening religious character and critical thinking skills in elementary school students. This study used a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The subjects were 125 elementary school students in Cluster IV, Pagerageung District, Tasikmalaya Regency. The RADEC learning model was implemented in the learning process using the syntax "Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, and Create," which was designed to encourage literacy activities, critical discussions, value reflection, and actualization of student understanding. The research instruments were a religious character questionnaire and a critical thinking questionnaire, both of which have been tested for validity and reliability. Data were collected through measurements before and after the implementation of the RADEC learning model. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test to determine differences in students' religious character scores and critical thinking skills before and after the treatment. The results showed that the RADEC learning model was significantly effective in strengthening students' religious character with a significant value of p < 0.05. Furthermore, students' critical thinking skills also significantly improved after participating in the RADEC learning model. The findings of this study indicate that the RADEC learning model is effective as an alternative learning method in elementary schools to improve students' religious character and critical thinking skills. Practically, the RADEC model can support learning that is more meaningful and relevant to students' needs. Empirically, this study provides evidence that literacy-based learning, discussion, and reflection can simultaneously strengthen character education and higher-order thinking skills.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of Augmented Reality (AR)-based Scansmart Card learning media to improve fourth-grade students’ understanding of photosynthesis in elementary schools, in line with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education). The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, consisting of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. The developed media integrates printed cards with AR features accessed through the Assemblr Edu application, presenting interactive 3D visualizations, audio explanations, and quizzes related to photosynthesis concepts. Product validity was assessed by material and media experts, resulting in validity scores of 92 and 95%, respectively, which were categorized as highly valid. Limited field trials were conducted with 30 fourth-grade students at SDN Tlekung 02 Batu using a one-group pretest–posttest design. Data analysis included normality testing using the Shapiro–Wilk test, paired sample t-test, and N-gain analysis. The results indicated that the data were normally distributed and showed a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores (t = 6.87; p < 0.05). The average N-gain score was 0.63, categorized as moderate, indicating effective learning improvement. These findings demonstrate that the AR-based Scansmart Card media is valid, feasible, and effective in enhancing students’ understanding of photosynthesis and supporting the improvement of elementary science learning quality.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the association between nutritional status based on Body Mass Index (BMI) and the occurrence of primary dysmenorrhea among female students at SMAN 07 Pekanbaru. A quantitative analytic study with a cross-sectional design was conducted involving 127 respondents selected from the target population. Primary dysmenorrhea status was assessed using a structured questionnaire, while nutritional status was classified using BMI categories. The results showed that the prevalence of primary dysmenorrhea was high, affecting 79.50% (101 respondents) of the participants. Statistical analysis using the chi-square test indicated that BMI-based nutritional status was not significantly associated with primary dysmenorrhea (p = 0.844). Risk analysis also supported this finding, showing no meaningful evidence of association (OR = 0.72; 95% CI: 0.30–1.71). These findings suggest that primary dysmenorrhea in adolescent girls is likely influenced by multifactorial determinants beyond nutritional status, including hereditary factors, hormonal balance, physical activity, lifestyle habits, and psychological conditions. Preventive and management efforts should therefore incorporate reproductive health education, healthy lifestyle promotion, and broader risk factor control.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to improve the quality and effectiveness of message exchanges that occur in various communication contexts within the learning process. This research was conducted at SMK Jambi Medan with a sample of 39 class X students. Communication management is the process of managing communication resources that are frequently used in everyday life, including in the surrounding environment. The communication context referred to here means the individual, interpersonal, organizational, governmental, and social levels of communication. The positive impact of digital era learning media as an efficiency of communication management technological advances, providing many creative and challenging games that are apparently popular with students. The presence of digital technology does provide many benefits and can streamline communication management because work can be done easily and information becomes faster to access via the internet. However, behind it all, there are a million threats lurking, especially in generation 4.0. They are willing to spend most of their time with gadgets rather than playing in their environment. It is truly a heartbreaking reality, gadgets have become a new life for them. The negative impacts and side effects of using digital technology can include decreased academic achievement due to excessive use, limiting physical activity needed for children's growth and development, hampered development of children's social and language skills due to being introduced to gadgets early (especially at the age of under 2 years), brain development is not optimal due to unbalanced developmental stimulation, eye health problems (screen time should be limited to a maximum of 2 hours per day), concentration problems (intermittently looking at and checking gadgets), sleep problems, the amount of sleep time, and poor quality of sleep (due to the content of the viewing), no privacy, allowing personal data to be taken, child predators, cyber bullying, and others, problems with pornography, violence, or the instillation of negative values
