Abstract

In learning statistics, there is the term statistical reasoning. Statistical reasoning arises because of the opinion that learning statistics using a traditional approach does not lead students to have statistical reasoning abilities or to think statistically. There are four statistical reasoning levels: idiosyncratic, transitional, quantitative, and analytical. Student-teachers must understand fundamental statistical concepts more deeply to develop statistical reasoning abilities. The mental construction of a statistical concept can be analyzed using APOS (Action, Process, Object, Schema) theory. Through the APOS theory, researchers can determine individual understanding of statistical concepts that cause individuals to reason or draw reasonable conclusions based on the statistical information obtained. This study aims to analyze the interrelationships and make conjectures regarding the level of statistical reasoning ability based on the APOS theory. The research subjects are. 19 informants. The research results obtained four conjectures, namely. Students at the idiosyncratic level are in the action stage; students at the transitional stage are in the action, process, or object stage; students at the quantitative stage are in the process or object stage; lastly, students at the analytical are in the schema stage.

Abstract

Learning mathematics with the CPA approach has been practiced in Singapore and proven its effectiveness. However, there needs to be a synthesis of previous studies to find research gaps for future research. This article is a preliminary-research for information on the CPA approach and its modifications to mathematical abilities and attitudes. This article is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) of 39 studies published from 2010 to April 2023 using the Publish or Perish application with the Scopus database. This article aims to find out: (1) Description of mathematics education research trends using the CPA approach in terms of publication year, author, country, level of education, and mathematics content. (2) Application of the CPA approach to the type of mathematical ability and attitude of students. The results showed that research outside the elementary school level needs further investigation. Abstract mathematical concepts require a CPA approach. The CPA approach has a positive effect on students with or without learning disabilities or at risk of failure. Results and suggestions for future research on this topic are provided.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to analyze students' learning difficulties in solving mathematical problems on fraction material based on the Sensing, Thinking, Intuiting, Feeling, Instinct (STIFIn) personality type. This type of research is descriptive qualitative at SDN 47 Jambi using a purposive sampling technique with 5 selected students in class IV for the 2022/2023 academic year based on the recommendation of the mathematics teacher who teaches. The data collection techniques used in this research were written tests and interview sheets. The research results show that each subject experiences different learning difficulties when solving problems using Polya steps. In particular, in the step of re-checking answers, all subjects did not know exactly what the appropriate steps were to re-check the correctness of the answers they obtained. Overall, learning difficulties often occur when students want to develop and implement problem solving plans.

Abstract

Misconceptions in mathematics education, particularly in numeracy, are a significant issue that needs to be addressed urgently to improve the quality of education in Indonesia. This research aims to reduce students' misconceptions by developing and implementing a 4-Tier diagnostic test based on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) supported by Arduino tools in a Problem Based Learning (PBL) model. The method used is mixed methods with a population of 10th-grade high school students and a purposive sampling technique. The research instruments include a 4-Tier diagnostic test and observation sheets. Data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively using the concurrent embedded strategy model and the Ploomp research design. The results of the study show that the 4-Tier diagnostic test is effective in mapping students' conceptual understanding and significantly reducing numeracy misconceptions. The implementation of the ESD-based PBL model also proved to enhance students' numeracy skills. This research indicates that integrating diagnostic tests into the curriculum is crucial for improving the quality of learning and students' understanding. The use of Arduino in trigonometry learning increases students' motivation and engagement. Thus, this learning model can be a solution to enhance students' competencies in facing the challenges of globalization and technology in line with UNESCO's Agenda 2030

Abstract

Ethnomathematics provides benefits in linking mathematics with culture so that it can develop students' understanding of concepts. One culture that can be used is batik which has certain patterns and is philosophically related to mathematical concepts. The aim of this research is to explore mathematical concepts in Garutan batik and determine the value of mathematical philosophy in Garutan batik motifs. The research method used is qualitative with an ethnographic approach. The subjects of this research were batik craftsmen, batik managers of the Batik Garutan RM industry and mathematics teachers. The data collection techniques used were observation, interviews and documentation. The data analysis techniques used are data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of this research are that in Garutan Batik there are mathematical concepts, namely geometric transformations in the form of translation, reflection and rotation. The merak ngibing batik motif is related to the concepts of translation and reflection. The bulu ayam batik motif is related to the concept of translation. The lereng kangkung batik motif is related to the concept of rotation and translation. The cupat manggu batik motif is related to the concepts of reflection, rotation and translation. The batik lereng batik motif is related to the concept of rotation and translation.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine students' perceptions of the mathematics teaching style presented via the Jerome Polin YouTube Channel and to determine the mathematical understanding abilities of students who use the Jerome Polin YouTube Channel as a source of mathematics learning. This research is a qualitative descriptive research. The research instruments used by researchers in this study were tests of mathematical understanding abilities and student perception questionnaires. The population in this study were mathematics teachers and high school students in classes X and XI in high schools in Kuningan and Majalengka Regencies. The sample from this research was high school mathematics teachers for class X and XI in high schools in Kuningan and Majalengka districts. Data collection techniques were carried out by administering tests and response questionnaires.The data analysis technique in this research uses a flow model of analysis which includes: data reduction, data presentation, verification and drawing conclusions. The research results showed that students' responses to the use of YouTube in mathematics learning were in very positive criteria, with an average score of 82%. Viewed from all aspects, YouTube videos used in mathematics learning can be used as media in the learning process. Meanwhile, the results of students' mathematical understanding tests showed that the average percentage of indicators of students' mathematical understanding abilities was 51.25% of the maximum value, namely 100%.

Abstract

Creative thinking is an ability that must be possessed by every student being capable of resolving issues in various ways that are right. Creative thinking is one of the goals of education that has become a concern in recent years. But the facts show that the ability to think creatively is still low. The main thing that educators do is to identify the level of creative thinking of students so that educators know which students ' creative thinking skills need to be improved. Until now, the ability of educators in developing creative thinking ability tests is still low due to the lack of training and guidance that focuses on improving creative thinking skills. The aim of this research is to generate a product in the form of a test instrument of creative thinking skills that are valid, practical and effective. This research is a development research conducted with 4D models (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate), but the disseminate stage is not carried out due to time and cost constraints. The development phase was carried out on 88 students of grade VIII of One of the private high schools in Malang . The development results show that the creative thinking ability test is valid, practical and effective.

Abstract

This research aims to describe number sense of high school students on real numbers based on gender. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. The research was conducted in class XI (consists of 36 students) of SMA Negeri 3 Malang in the even semester of the 2023/2024 academic year. The subjects are one student with male gender and one student with female gender. The subjects were selected using purposive sampling technique. The research instruments consisted of number sense tests and interview guidelines. The number sense test used consisted of five questions with each question representing the number sense indicator used. Data analysis was carried out by examining students' answers on the number sense test given and then conducting interviews with selected subjects. The result showed that the male student is able to recognize relative number size, understand the meaning of numbers, recognize the relative effect of operations on numbers, compose or decompose numbers, and judge the reasonableness of estimates of computed results. Meanwhile, the female student is only able to recognize relative number size and the relative effect of operations on numbers.

Abstract

This study aims to describe students' mathematical critical thinking skills based on personality types, namely Extrovert and Introvert and to identify personality types that have the highest mathematical critical thinking skills in mathematics learning. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method. The population of the study was grade VIII students of Mts Negeri 6 Cikalongkulon. The subjects of the study consisted of 21 students who filled out a personality questionnaire to determine extrovert and introvert personality types. Data were collected through personality questionnaires, mathematical critical thinking tests in the form of essays, and interviews. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive techniques to classify and explore the level of students' mathematical critical thinking skills. The results showed that students with extrovert personality types had mathematical critical thinking skills in the high category, while students with introvert personality types tended to be in the low category. This study reveals that personality types affect students' mathematical critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Metacognition is described as thinking about thinking and is often considered as a second-level cognition that is different from ordinary cognition. This study aims to describe the metacognition of students with adversity quotient (AQ) climber and camper types in solving numeracy tasks. The research used a qualitative-descriptive approach with the subjects of four students of class VIII MTs who were selected using purposive sampling technique based on the results of the Adversity Response Profile (ARP) test. Data were collected through numeracy tasks solving tests, task-based interviews, and observations, then analysed using thematic analysis involving data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that AQ climber type students demonstrated metacognition consisting of metacognitive awareness, regulation, and evaluation with the steps of rethinking prior knowledge, planning the solution, and assessing the work. Meanwhile, AQ camper students showed metacognition in the form of metacognitive awareness, evaluation, and organisation with the steps of rethinking knowledge, evaluating abilities, redesigning plans, and evaluating completion steps. This study provides insight into the variation of metacognition based on AQ type, which can be used to design student character-based mathematics learning strategies.
