"Penelitian ini berfokus pada analisis gejala-gejala sosial yang terdapat dalam novel KKN di Desa Penari karya SimpleMan (2019) dengan menggunakan pendekatan sosiologi sastra. Novel KKN di Desa Penari tidak sekadar novel horor, sebab perhatian di dalamnya  juga memuat kelompok sosial di desa terpelosok Jawa yang memiliki rangkaian aspek sosial yang berbeda, seperti sistem kemasyarakatan, keyakinan, adat istiadat, serta lainnya. Berdasarkan hal tersebut, tujuan penelitian ini untuk mendeskripsikan fakta sosial dan solidaritas sosial di dalam novel KKN di Desa Penari Karya SimpleMan menggunakan teori Sosiologi Sastra Durkheim.Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian studi pustaka dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Data berupa kutipan kalimat, sumber data yang digunakan yaitu novel KKN di Desa Penari karya SimpleMan. Teknik pengumpulan data ialah teknik pustaka. Teknik analisis terdiri dari reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan simpulan. Penelitian ini akan menggunakan  teori sosiologi sastra (fakta sosial dan solidaritas sosial Emile Durkheim).Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa beragam fenomena sosial yang terjadi dalam kelompok sosial di Desa Penari terhadap kumpulan mahasiswa mengacu pada ciri-ciri masyarakat yang memiliki kekuatan sosial. Temuan fakta sosial dalam kelompok sosial di Desa Penari tersebut terbagi menjadi fakta sosial material dan nonmaterial. Fakta sosial material mengacu pada bentuk fisik, sedangkan nonmaterial terdiri dari moralitas, representasi kolektif, kesadaran kolektif, arus sosial, serta pikiran kelompok. Solidaritas sosial yang terdapat dalam kelompok sosial di Desa Penari yaitu solidaritas mekanik. Hal ini mengacu pada beragam tindakan sosial yang dilakukan oleh kelompok di Desa Penari memenuhi karakteristik sebagai masyarakat solidaritas mekanik, yakni pedesaan, kesadaran kolektif kuat, pola normatif, pembagian kerja rendah, konsensus kelompok, sistem penghukuman, produk pengalaman bersama, serta kolektivitas kelompok yang erat."

Abstract

Translation of literary works including films is important because many films are in English in Indonesia and not many people can understand the language. Translating means communicating, that is conveying a message to others. In the translation process, it is necessary to follow the methods and techniques of translation. The researchers chose the Encanto as the object because the Encanto is an animation that could be presented by adults as well as children. In translating the film used technique of Molina and Albir which has a character where the techniques used are functional and unrelated to each other but are based on a certain context. After analyzing the data, there are 12 techniques were used by the translator to translate the dialog in the Encanto film, which contains 475 data, they are Borrowing (10 data), Established Equivalent (1 data), Generalization (1 data), Linguistic Amplification (13 data), Linguistic Compression (211 data), Literal Translation (155 data), Modulation (16 data), Particularization (3 data), Reduction (14 data), Substitution (10 data), Transposition (15 data), Variation (26 data).

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study examines the elements of surrealism in literary works, focusing on how authors employ realist techniques to explore subconscious realities and create complex meanings. The research uses a descriptive-qualitative method by describing data such as dialogues, narratives, or quotations, which are then processed through elaboration and analysis. This study applies surrealist literary theory, primarily referring to the ideas of André Breton as a central figure in the surrealist movement, combined with Sigmund Freud’s psychological theory. The object of analysis is a short story titled "The Yellow Wallpaper" by American feminist writer Charlotte Perkins Gilman. This short story was selected for its strong surrealist representation. The findings show that the work contains typical characteristics of surrealism, such as the blending of reality and imagination, representations of dreams, myths, fantasy, unusual symbolism, absurdity, and irrationality as the main narrative elements. Through these surrealist techniques, the author conveys implicit social and psychological critiques through the depiction of an anonymous narrator character. Thus, this study affirms that surrealism in literature is not merely an aesthetic and imaginative style, but also serves as a medium for exploring the psyche and alternative realities. Abstract

This research analyzed conceptual metaphors in the song lyrics of selected songs in Ariana Grande's Eternal Sunshine album, using the theory of conceptual metaphors by Lakoff and Johnson (1980) and with the stylistics approach. The research results showed that there were twelve song lyrics containing conceptual metaphors, which were categorized into two types: structural metaphors and ontological metaphors. Structural metaphors worked by connecting a concrete source domain that usually comes from everyday experiences to an abstract target domain such as ideas, feelings, or experiences that have no physical attributes. These structural metaphors provide a framework for understanding emotions and relationships through concepts of everyday experience. Meanwhile, ontological metaphors conceptualized abstract experiences such as activities, ideas, and emotions as something concrete that has a physical entity The stylistic analysis in this research highlighted the use of diction that reinforces the perceived effectiveness of this metaphor and strengthens the emotional resonance for the listener.

Abstract

This research focuses on the interpretation of the use of metaphor in the Good 4 U song lyrics written by Olivia Rodrigo. The purpose of the study is to know what the interpretations of metaphors presented in Good 4 U song lyrics by Olivia Rodrigo are. This research is qualitative research and the results show that 6 categories of metaphors can be captured in Good 4 U song lyrics. Out of the 27 data, there are 2 absolute or paralogical metaphors, 1 dead metaphor, 4 extended metaphors, 5 indirect metaphors, 4 contextual metaphors, 10 root metaphors, and 1 metaphor that does not belong to the metaphor category. The researcher can conclude that the root metaphor is the most common metaphor found in the lyrics of the song Good 4 U. The interpretation of the lyrics of the song deals with (1) The destruction of the relationship, (2) The warmth of a past relationship, and (3) the sadness of the singer because she was ignored by her ex-boyfriend who achieved extraordinary success. From this research, it can be concluded that metaphors greatly affect the meaning of lyrics because they can convey a certain meaning better, which can help the listener understand what the composer is trying to say.Keywords: Metaphors, Song lyrics, Good 4 U, Olivia Rodrigo

Abstract

Gender inequality is a phenomenon that has never been separated from everyday life in the past until now. Women are considered as weak, helpless, and inferior to men, giving rise to gender inequality in everyday life. Gender inequality gives rise to the struggle of women to get equality with men in various fields of everyday life. This study aims to identify gender inequality experienced by female characters in Enola Holmes: The Case of the Missing Marquess Novel by Nancy Springer and analyzed how women struggle in dealing with gender inequality that occurs by using Judith Lorber's theory regarding gender inequality and women's struggles. This research is qualitative research conducted with a feminist approach. The data source used in this study is Enola Holmes: The Case of the Missing Marquess Novel by Nancy Springer. The data collected was in the form of dialogues and narrations that contain gender inequality and women's struggles. Based on data analysis, the researcher found gender inequality and women’s struggle that occurred in various fields, such as educational fields, economic fields, marriage life, sexual exploitation and violence, and political fields through several characters in the novel, such as Enola Holmes, Eudoria Holmes, and other female characters. The results of this study showed how the forms of gender inequality experienced by women have led to women's struggles to achieve equality, which will also have an effect on gender inequality and women's struggles in the future.

Abstract

The Tragedy of Macbeth raises the issue of power struggles and bloodshed which causes the main character to experience paranoia, hallucinations, and talk to himself. In this film, the utterances spoken by several characters use unique diction, which tends to be strange, and can make the audience question the meaning of the utterance. In everyday life nor in the academic environment, there are often misunderstandings of meaning by the speaker and the listener. In the realm of linguistics, semantics which is the science of meaning, plays an important role in classifying the meaning intended by the speaker. This research focuses on the use of homonyms from the characters of The Tragedy of Macbeth (2021) film using Kreidler's theory about sense relations, especially homonyms which is used as the main theory in this research. The data were taken from the screenplay of The Tragedy of Macbeth using descriptive qualitative methods with a semantic approach to sense relations. The researcher found that the homonymy indicates that the characters in the objective digress a lot in communication which can cause any misinterpretation. The occurrence of homonymy can be caused by the development of meaning that spreads, the influence of foreign words in the language or also for communication needs. Sense relations theory can conclude that a word can be interpreted more specifically depending on the context in which it occurs. In this research, sense relations played a role in the discovery of homonyms, homophones, and homographs in the objective.

Abstract

In order to interact and exchange conversation with Gen Z we need to fully understand their language. The constant flow of trends on the internet affected the development of language and slang. With the rate which language changes it also means that it is easily forgotten. This research served as an inventory for newly invented slang words by Gen Z on TikTok. This research main objective analyzed the type and function of slang words that are used by Gen Z on the infamous social media platform TikTok. This research applied Allan and Burridge's theory of slang type and function that are used on the TikTok platform by Gen Z from October to December of 2023. This research employed qualitative research as the methodology with a sociolinguistics approach. The analysis involved in this research are data condensation, coding process, and meaning interpretation. The analysis revealed that there are occurrences of fresh and creative, flippant, imitative, acronym, and clipping, with occurrences of the function to address, to humiliate, and to express impression. Based on the analysis, the most dominant slang type is imitative with to address as the most used slang function on the TikTok platform. It could be concluded that, Gen Z tends to reuse an already existing vocabulary and used them to address a situation or activity.

Abstract

This research analyzes the code mixing used in the film. This research aims to analyze the code-mixing type in this film, based on Imelda and Hector's character dialogue in this film. This film uses code-mixing to communicate with each other, and the setting of the place is in a small village in Spain. They used code mixing because of the cultural background in there. One branch of socio-linguistic science is code mixing; code mixing has a few types that must be known they are insertion, alternation, and congruent lexicalization. Each type has its own rules, and they are different with each type; in this thesis, there are two types of code mixing: insertion and congruent lexicalization are the two types in this thesis. The code mixing are found in the character dialogue in this film, where use English and Spanish language to communicate. There is 13 data total that divide into 11 insertion type and 2 congruents lexicalization type.

Abstract

Cerita fantastik merupakan cerita yang menyajikan pemunculan secara tibatiba suatu peristiwa supranatural dalam dunia nyata. Salah satu representasi terhadap cerita fantastik adalah novel Peter karya Risa Saraswati. Penelitian ini menganalisis mistik yang berfokus pada hubungan tokoh utama dengan pengarangnya dalam novel Peter karya Risa Saraswati. Adapun tujuan dalam penelitian ini ialah mendeskripsikan fakta cerita dalam novel Peter karya Risa Saraswati; mendeskripsikan bentuk mistik yang terdapat dalam novel Peter karya Risa Saraswati. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian studi pustaka dengan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif yaitu mendeskripsikan data yang berupa kata, frasa, dan kalimat yang terdapat dalam novel. Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini ialah teknik baca dan catat, kemudian teknik analisis yang terdiri dari pengumpulan data, reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan.Penelitian ini membahas fakta cerita yang terdiri dari tokoh dan penokohan, alur dan pengaluran, dan latar. Lalu membahas aspek kefantastikan dan sturktur cerita fantastik. Kemudian membahas mistik, yang meliputi hal gaib yang diyakini, subsistem agama, bentuk kepercayaan kepada satu Tuhan, sebab akibat yang tidak rasional, mitos, dan pengetahuan tentang Tuhan melalui meditasi.Hasil dari penelitian ini pada fakta cerita menunjukkan bahwa alur dalam novel Peter karya Risa Saraswati merupakan alur kombinasi (progresif-prospektif). Kemudian latar yang terdiri dari latar tempat, latar waktu, dan latar sosial. Latar sosial dalam novel Peter dibahas berdasarkan tokoh utama dalam cerita. Lalu aspek kefantastikan merujuk pada Djokosujatno (2005) yang terdiri dari tokoh, ruang, dan waktu. Sementara itu, struktur cerita fantastik terdiri dari ambition (keinginan), avertissement (peringatan), transgression (pelanggaran), dan malediction (kutukan/hukuman). Kemudian hasil dari penelitian pada pembahasan mistik yang berfokus pada tokoh utama dengan pengarangnya berdasarkan beberapa aspek. Aspek mistik hal gaib yang diyakini pengarang menimbulkan sebab akibat yang tidak rasional terhadap kepribadian pengarang dan adanya mitos yang diyakini oleh pengarang sehingga pengarang melakukan mediasi guna mengetahui kehidupan masa lalu dari tokoh utama.
