Abstract

It is noted that public participation rates in general elections in Indonesia have declined annually, illustrating a phenomenon of disconnected electoral as part of distrust, where there is a disconnect between representatives and the represented. This issue can influence political perceptions and public trust in mayoral candidates, particularly among young first-time voters. Therefore, this study aims to examine the role of personal attributes (benevolence, competence, integrity) of Makassar mayoral candidates in influencing the trust of first-time voters. This quantitative study used a sample of 104 first-time voters aged 17-23 years. The results showed that benevolence, competence, and integrity influence trust by 69.5%, with benevolence having no significant effect (p=0.717). In the group of participants who knew the mayoral candidates, competence and integrity influenced trust by 73.9%, while benevolence had no significant effect (p=0.846). In the group of participants who did not know the mayoral candidates, benevolence, competence, and integrity influenced trust by 71.7%.  Furthermore, 66% of first-time voters desire a Makassar mayoral candidate with integrity in their future leadership.

Abstract

This study offers a novel contribution by exploring the role of customer service orientation in enhancing organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) through a comparative analysis between civil servants and private sector employees. The objective is to address a gap in existing literature concerning the differential effects of extra-role behaviors on service delivery across these sectors. The research also explores how customer service orientation influences OCB. Data were collected from 346 employees, comprising public-sector civil servants and their private-sector counterparts, utilizing the customer service orientation and organizational citizenship behavior scales as the primary measurement instruments. Findings reveal that customer service orientation significantly predicts OCB. Notably, while the conscientiousness dimension of OCB shows no significant difference between civil servants and private sector employees, overall OCB and customer service orientation exhibit distinct patterns between the two groups. In particular, private sector employees demonstrate a higher propensity towards extra-role behaviors closely linked to enhanced service delivery. Conversely, for optimal service provision in the public sector, civil servants must adopt and internalize the principles of BerAKHLAK, with a specific emphasis on service orientation. This study underscores the role of organizational citizenship behaviors in defining service quality across public and private sectors.

Abstract

Suicide is one of the biggest causes of death in teenagers, especially in Tana Toraja Regency. Suicide can occur due to previous suicidal thoughts. Suicidal thoughts are a desire to die that has not been accompanied by concrete action. Even though it is not accompanied by concrete action, it still needs to be given special attention so that it does not develop into a suicide attempt. This research aims to find out what the experience of having suicidal thoughts is and how suicidal thoughts are described in adolescent girls in Tana Toraja Regency. This research uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. The respondents in this study were 3 people aged 17, 18 and 21 years. Data collection techniques used semi-structured interviews. The results of data analysis show that respondents' thoughts of suicide are based on different experiences, such as the death of parents, parental quarrels, violence in the family, and the influence of posts about suicide on social media. The feelings that respondents felt when they had suicidal thoughts were despair, loss of motivation and enthusiasm. The frequency of suicidal thoughts among respondents also varied, ranging from lasting for weeks, months, or even years. Respondents' descriptions of suicidal thoughts included cutting their veins, hanging themselves, and consuming dangerous chemicals. The description of suicidal thoughts was inspired by social media, suicide incidents in the neighborhood, and a family member's history of suicide attempts. The implication of this research is that it can be a reference for taking preventive action for teenagers who have suicidal thoughts so that they do not develop into suicide attempts, especially for teenage girls.

Abstract

The research was conducted to determine the role of strength-based parenting on subjective well-being (reviewed using three separate components: life satisfaction, positive affect, and negative affect) in Sundanese late adolescents. Parents can apply strength-based parenting by recognizing and encouraging Sundanese adolescents to use their strengths, so they can increase life satisfaction and positive affect, as well as reduce negative affect. This quantitative research was conducted on 202 Sundanese adolescents aged 18-21 years, with data processed using a correlational design with a simple linear regression analysis test. Data were collected online through the Strength-Based Parenting Scale (SBPS), Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), and Scale of Positive and Negative Experience (SPANE) questionnaires, all of which were tested for validity and reliability. The research results show that strength-based parenting has a positive role in life satisfaction (R2 = 0.243; β = 0.493; p = 0.000) and positive affect (R2 = 0.159; β = 0.108; p = 0.000), as well as a negative role in negative affect (R2 = 0.046; β = -0.059; p = 0.002). Researchers hope that this research can serves as a useful reference for other researchers and help Sundanese parents implement strength-based parenting with Sundanese adolescents.

Abstract

Identity confusion is very vulnerable among teenagers. The inability of adolescents to resolve conflicts has an impact on confusion about their goals, talents, and abilities in determining their future careers. This study aims to determine the relationship between the quality of friendship and students' vocational identity. The respondents were 171 students at SMA Negeri 8 Bulukumba class XII which was obtained through purposive sampling techniques. Data was collected through questionnaires using a friendship quality scale and a vocational identity scale. The results of Pearson product moment correlation analysis showed the value of the correlation coefficient between the quality of friendship and the achievement identity status, which was r = 0.256 and p = 0.002 (significant). This means that there is a positive correlation between the quality of friendship and vocational identity in the status of achievement and not correlated with the status of moratorium, foreclosure, and diffusion identity. So, the better the quality of the friendship you have, the more your achievement identity will also increase. The implication of this study is necessary to make efforts to maintain the quality of friendships so that they continue to contribute positively in exploring careers and forming commitments to students in various alternative vocational fields.

Abstract

Generation Z students often face high levels of stress due to academic demands, financial concerns, and social pressures. One common response to such stress is academic procrastination—deliberate delay in completing academic tasks, which negatively impacts performance. This study aimed to examine the role of self-compassion as a moderator in the relationship between stress and academic procrastination among university students. The study employed a quantitative correlational approach using Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA). A total of 406 Generation Z students were selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through online questionnaires measuring stress, self-compassion, and academic procrastination, and analyzed using SPSS version 25. The findings revealed that stress significantly predicted higher levels of academic procrastination. Self-compassion also showed a significant direct effect in reducing procrastination. However, it did not moderate the relationship between stress and academic procrastination. Further analysis found that self-compassion significantly mediated this relationship. In conclusion, while self-compassion does not serve as a moderator, it plays a crucial mediating role in reducing the impact of stress on academic procrastination. These results highlight the importance of promoting self-compassion among students. Educational institutions are encouraged to implement programs such as mindfulness training or stress-management workshops that enhance students' adaptive coping and self-compassion.

Abstract

Chronic autoimmune diseases have a multidimensional impact on the lives of individuals, affecting them physically, psychologically, socially, and spiritually. For those who remain employed, the challenges become increasingly complex as they must balance their health conditions with professional demands. This study aims to explore the meaning of quality of life as experienced by individuals with chronic autoimmune diseases who continue to work. The research adopts a qualitative approach using descriptive phenomenology. Participants consisted of three working individuals living with autoimmune conditions, selected through snowball sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, observations, and medical document analysis. The findings reveal that quality of life is perceived as a process of self-regulation, adaptation to physical limitations, and ongoing emotional management. Spirituality emerges as a fundamental pillar supporting self-acceptance and nurturing hope amid health uncertainties. Furthermore, participants maintain a sense of purpose through optimism, support from family and workplace institutions, and the redefinition of self-identity. Psychological ambivalencesuch as guilt or emotional burdenis commonly experienced but is managed through spiritual reflection and self-awareness. In conclusion, quality of life for working individuals with autoimmune conditions results from a complex interplay of internal and external factors that mutually reinforce one another. Recommendations are directed toward institutions to implement inclusive and adaptive work policies to ensure the sustained participation and well-being of employees living with chronic illnesses.
