Abstract

As a minority in the Early Childhood Education (ECE) field, male teachers and prospective male teachers are likely to face some challenges. Therefore, developing resilience skills is needed. This study aims to investigate the resilience factors of male teachers and prospective male teachers as minorities in the ECE field. Identifying the resilience factors of male teachers and male teacher candidates may guide kindergarten leaders and ECE head study programs in higher education to support male participation in the ECE field. It is descriptive qualitative research involving four male teachers and two prospective male teachers in the Kudus area. In-depth interviews were used to collect the data, while a three-phase analysis of Miles and Huberman was used to analyze the data. Findings showed some risk factors that can be challenges in developing resilience, such as the public’s stereotype about men who choose ECE, low salary, and lack of acceptance from others. On the other hand, some protective factors that support their resilience are their love toward children, family, colleagues, and classmates’ support, as well as religious factors. Collaborative efforts are needed to make the ECE field more gender inclusive, including strengthening the protective factors and teaching resilience to prospective male teachers so they can face some challenges that might arise in the fieldwork.

Abstract

Childhood is identic with playing, and children are also said to be Homo Ludens or creatures of play. The Indonesian government is promoting criteria emphasizing play as a learning process. In addition, an emancipated curriculum means that children are given the opportunity for freedom of choice and activities so that students can build their knowledge. This policy contributes to Piaget's concept of thinking, which sees how children learn by constructing their knowledge. This study looks at the application of play in early childhood education based on Piaget's way of thinking. This study uses a systematic literature review research method. The results of this study discuss how Piaget views the concept of play in early childhood. The update of this article from the previous article is that it will explain early childhood play activities more precisely according to Piaget's views. Piaget asserts that knowledge development occurs through imagination in new experiences, which actively builds and modifies prior knowledge, and play is the primary medium in which this process occurs. The results of this paper are useful for educators and parents who know better how play can provide an unconscious learning process in children.

Abstract

Childhood is a critical period in a child's growth. Therefore, parents and educators have a significant role in providing appropriate stimulation to help children reach their optimal potential. Presidential Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia No. 60 of 2013 concerning Integrative Holistic PAUD has urged the fulfilment of all children's basic needs, including those related to their health, nutrition, education, protection and welfare. This project aims to create an interactive application, "Jamune Cah Cilik", which will educate users about the use of jamu, a traditional Indonesian drink with positive health effects, to improve the health of young children. The ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) was used in developing the interactive application "Janecil or Jamune Cah Cilik". Beta testing will be carried out by users, medical experts, and nutritionists, who will participate in the alpha test to determine the effectiveness of application development. The application development stage is the last stage discussed in this article. The approach and procedures required to create the interactive program "Jamune Cah Cilik" to improve the health of early childhood are explained in this article.

Abstract

The phenomenon of improving the ability to recognize letters in early childhood in schools has been implemented well, but the learning media is less varied in learning to introduce letters. This research method uses classroom action research (PTK) using the Kemmis and MC Taggart models. The research involved 1 experienced teacher and 12 students. To see the development of the ability to recognize letters in young children, data was collected using in-depth observations of the learning process carried out by the teacher in 8 meetings in 2 cycles, with a duration of 90 minutes for each observation (during the learning process). Data collection techniques were carried out using observations with students in RA at-taqwa group B, totaling 12 children, interviews with 1 class teacher and documentation. The research results show that the ability to recognize letters in early childhood generally develops very well (BSB) through magic box media. This development can be seen gradually in cycle I and cycle II (16.6% in cycle I and 83.3% in cycle II). The development of the ability to recognize letters in early childhood in this study is assumed to be successful because it has reached a success standard of above 75%. So this game has an important role in the development of language, cognitive, physical motor skills, religious and moral values and social emotional development.

Abstract

This research aims to improve the cognitive ability of group B children at the AL-Ulya Rajabasa Kindergarten in Bandar Lampung to recognize geometric shapes through the index card match method. Due to the lack of learning media, children cannot focus or name geometric shapes. This research uses the classroom action research method with two cycles. The data-collecting techniques employed were observations, interviews, and documentation. The subject of this research was one classroom teacher and twelve AL-Ulya Kindergarten group B students. The analysis shows that the children's cognitive ability to recognize geometric shapes through the index card match method increases. Improvements can be seen after taking action in cycle 1. Two children (16.6%) experienced excellent development. In cycle 2, ten children developed very well (83.3%). This research was stopped in the second cycle because the predetermined standard was exceeded; children who developed very well reached 75%. The results of children's ability to recognize geometric shapes before and after using the index card match method have increased greatly. In the results of observations in research, implementing learning such as using the index card match method can improve cognitive abilities in recognizing geometric shapes.

Abstract

The presence of siblings in a child's life brings changes that require the child to share in various things, including parental love. It gives rise to a competitive rivalry between siblings in feelings or actions. This research aims to determine the impact of sibling rivalry (fights between siblings), which affects the character development of children aged 5-6 years. The method employed in this research is a qualitative case study. The data-collecting techniques employed were interviews, observation, and documentation. Based on the analysis, sibling rivalry has several impacts on children aged 5-6 years, namely the impact on oneself or regression, the impact on siblings or aggression, and the impact on others or bad behaviour directed at people outside of the home. Sibling rivalry is also caused by bad relationships, parenting patterns, and the environment, which can increase the impact on children.

Abstract

The development of augmented reality (AR) based flashcard media "Oreng Madureh" has the potential to become an effective and interesting educational and cultural promotion tool with a combination of AR and Madurese culture. This research aims to develop learning media using AR-based flashcard media on introductory Madurese culture material which includes an introduction to traditional clothing, typical food and Madurese traditional houses. This development research uses the ADDIE model which consists of five stages, namely analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation. Data collection used observation, questionnaires, interviews and documentation techniques for 50 children aged 4-6 years in 4 trial stages, namely material expert trials, learning media experts, small group and large group field trials. The data was analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively with material expert questionnaire trial results of 91.07%, learning media expert trial results of 92.64% with very feasible criteria, no need for revision, small group trial results of 87.14% and the results of the large group trial were 84.89% in the high category. These results indicate that this media is suitable for use in the learning process. The development of this media has the implication of being able to attract children to understand and appreciate the cultural diversity around them through interactive learning activities, as well as developing children's fine motor and cognitive skills.
