Abstract

The process of premature aging is a physiological process that will occur in every living thing that is most visible on the skin. Recent studies proved that premature aging process can be prevented by using anti-aging cosmetics containing antioxidants. Natural origins of antioxidant are more desirable than synthetic one as they have more benefits and guaranteed safety. Virgin coconut oil (VCO) is well-known with its excellent antioxidant activity and abundance availability in Indonesia. Therefore it was interesting to develop anti-aging cream containing VCO as an active antioxidant ingredient. VCO-containing anti-aging cream was formulated using a base of white vaseline. Evaluation of anti-aging cream showed that the anti-aging cream had a semisolid consistency, white color, and lemon-like aroma. The anti-aging cream was homogeneous with a pH of 5.9-6.1, with an oil-in-water cream type, and stable during storage. While the hedonic test showed that as much as 40.0%; 42.90%; 45.70% liked the color, the smell, and the texture of the anti-aging cream, respectively. It was concluded that virgin coconut oil can be formulated into an anti-aging cream that stable during storage and having the preferred color, aroma and texture. It is potential to be developed as anti-aging cream with natural origin ingredients.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic is believed to be a turning point for changes in tourism and the design of creative economy business models, including in Indonesia. Through the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, the government prepares various policy directions and strategies in tourism promotion programs during the pandemic and post-pandemic in Indonesia. Sidamanik District is one of the sub-districts in the Simalungun Regency, North Sumatra Province, which has considerable natural potential, namely natural potential in the form of landscapes such as the Bah Butong Sidamanik tea garden, Bah Manik baths, and Bah Biak Waterfall. Bah Biak Waterfall has its uniqueness. Bah Biak Waterfall has a height of approximately 20 meters which immediately falls into the rocks and a swimming pool provided by the manager. The current condition experienced is the lack of visitors who come to tourist objects due to the lack of marketing and information disseminated to the broader community, especially during a pandemic like today. Along with technological advances, the development of promotional media began to shift to digital media, one of which was video. Therefore, through community service, which is one of the tri dharma of higher education and to support Strategy 7 of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy: Utilization of technology to support tourism marketing and the creative economy, our service team proposes making tourism promotion videos through video/ Digital Marketing of Bah Biak Tourism Object in Bah Biak Village, Sidamanik District. Abstract

The area around the Universitas Sumatera Utara Campus, Medan city, is an area that is often hit by floods, especially when there is quite heavy rain with a fairly long duration. Based on initial observations, it can be said that this is due to the drainage channel being unable to accommodate the high rainwater discharge. To overcome this, the 2021 USU TALENTA Community Service Program offered a solution by creating a sustainable drainage system that is environmentally insight. The solution starts with the smallest thing that each household in the affected area can do, namely through making biopori holes. In addition to biopori, another solution taken is through the construction of infiltration wells and groundwater tanks. Conducted training and simulation activities on these three solutions of environmentally sustainable drainage systems. It is hoped that it will gradually reduce water runoff directly into the city drainage, but the water can be partially absorbed into the ground first, to reduce standing water which can eventually cause flooding.

Abstract

Clean and healthy living behavior (PHBS) is essentially aimed at increasing public awareness to want to live a clean and healthy life. PHBS in educational facilities should be prioritized considering that children have returned to school during the new normal period of the corona virus (Covid-19) pandemic. According to the WHO, washing hands with soap and water or using an alcohol-based hand rub can kill the COVID-19 virus. Good hand washing is the first line of defense against the spread of many diseases. Hand washing can help prevent the spread of illnesses ranging from the common cold to more serious infections. Prevention of coronavirus disease also comes from good immunity. In addition to adequate nutritional intake, oral health is also needed to obtain a healthy immune system. The oral cavity is a part of the body that functions as a pathway for food and drink to enter the body and plays a role in increasing immunity. On the other hand, it is also the 'entrance' for various pathogens that cause infection. Therefore, community service for children is needed in the form of habituation efforts to wash hands and brush teeth properly. The purpose of this service is to improve the health status of children by building hand washing and toothbrushing facilities as an effort to habituate clean and healthy living behavior in preventing the spread of the Covid-19 disease. It is hoped that with the dedication carried out, there will be changes in behavior and improvement of health in children at school.

Abstract

With creativity, items that have no value and are often considered trash can be turned into a product with high economic value, for example leaves. Shanti Permatasari as a creative industry player for home handicrafts created by Shan's Craft uses leaves as raw materials to make various products using the Eco-print technique. Eco-print is a method of coloring and printing natural motifs on fabrics that utilizes leaves or flowers that grow in the yard as a substitute for chemical liquids and is also environmentally friendly. Coloring using natural elements will not cause environmental damage. The development of creative industries is needed to foster community creativity, especially during the current Covid-19 pandemic. Creative industries in the form of handicrafts get enough attention, especially as souvenirs and souvenirs. With the existing potential, the production of the Shan's Craft creation house in the form of handicrafts using the Eco-print technique needs to be supported to increase production and marketing more seriously. Although this business has promising opportunities, there are obstacles in the production process due to the limited space of the workshop which limits the space for movement, production, and even for displaying product displays. In terms of financial management, businesses still combine personal finance and business finance, there is no clear cash flow report on a regular basis. This causes the business to have no clear advantages/disadvantages and is relatively slow to develop. Through this service program, the implementation team offers solutions in the form of expansion and construction of product display rooms for promotional needs, creation of online media accounts as a means of digital promotion, and financial management training and simple bookkeeping of financial statements. The targeted outputs are increased production and sales of eco-print batik, maximum utilization of product display space in reaching the target market, and expanding the market through the use of online media such as social media and e-commerce.

Abstract

Topographically, the Mandailing Natal district is divided into lowland areas which are coastal areas with an elevation of 00 -20 covering an area of 160,500 Ha (24.24%). One of the drivers of economic growth in Mandailing Natal district is plantations. Plantation plants in the Mandailing Natal district can develop coffee, cinnamon, coconut, candlenut, sugar palm, and cloves. However, the level of absorption of agricultural technology is still not as expected, especially for coffee farmers in Gunung Tua village, Mandailing Natal Regency, making coffee productivity from this area less than optimal. From the survey results and discussions with coffee farmer partners in the town of Gunung Tua Mandailing Natal, it was found that there were several problems in the post-harvest process, and one of them was the peeling of the coffee bean skin. So far, most coffee farmers use a coffee peeler manually with a 20 kg/hour capacity and require quite a high operational cost. Therefore, the service implementation team and coffee farmer partners agreed to make a 100 kg/hour coffee peeler machine and an electric motor drive based on these conditions. Test data in the field shows that for a coffee peeler with a capacity of 100 kg/hour, only one liter of fuel is needed to peel 400 kg of coffee beans. This, of course, makes a significant reduction in production costs in the post-harvest process. It is hoped that this machine can work optimally to reduce the production cost of coffee peeling and increase the income of coffee farmers in the village of Gunung Tua Mandailing Natal.
