Abstract

Jakabaring Sport City (JSC), or the Jakabaring Sports Complex, is one of the largest sports complexes in Indonesia, located in Palembang City. JSC is equipped with a comprehensive range of facilities, both for sports and non-sports activities. These facilities are spread across an area of 325 hectares, with the Gelora Sriwijaya Stadium serving as the central focus of the mass arrangement. As a public building, JSC is frequently visited, especially during events held at the complex. Therefore, this study aims to assess the effectiveness of the mass arrangement in relation to user accessibility. The research employs a qualitative method through literature review. Data collection techniques involve searching for data, conducting research, and drawing conclusions. The study findings indicate that the mass arrangement at JSC also considers user activities, which affects accessibility and circulation. The mass arrangement at JSC is deemed sufficiently efficient for the various activities carried out by its users.

Abstract

Since 1990, the community of Kamikatsu, Japan, has recognized the negative environmental and resource impacts of burning waste, leading them to adopt a zero waste culture and declare themselves the first zero waste city in Japan in 2003. The Kamikatsu Zero Waste Center exemplifies the successful application of ecological architecture principles, responding to local climate conditions, creating energy efficiency, and integrating with the community's zero waste culture. This study aims to identify the success of the Kamikatsu Zero Waste Center in creating an ecological and sustainable community-based public space. The research method used is deductive, reviewing the general concept of ecological architecture and specifically examining its implementation in the Kamikatsu Zero Waste Center building. The findings demonstrate how the Kamikatsu Zero Waste Center addresses relevant issues through ecological architecture principles, such as building form and insulation in response to climate conditions, building openings for sunlight needs, and the use of local resources and recycled materials.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the application of biomimicry architecture through a case study of the Eastgate Center building. Biomimicry architecture explores natural principles to design efficient and sustainable solutions in the built environment. A case study of the Eastgate Centre, a commercial building located in Harare, Zimbabwe, provides an opportunity to evaluate how biomimicry principles were applied in the design and construction of the building. The research method involved an in-depth literature review of the concept of biomimicry, structural and functional analysis of the Eastgate Center building, as well as interviews with architects and related parties. The results of this research provide insight into the effectiveness of applying biomimicry architecture in the context of commercial buildings and its contribution to energy efficiency, temperature regulation and environmental sustainability. These findings are expected to contribute to further understanding of the potential of biomimicry architecture in supporting the construction of more environmentally friendly and efficient buildings.

Abstract

The design of this Public Library is motivated by the lack of public library facilities in the Mandailing Natal Regency, particularly in the Panyabungan District and its surroundings. Despite being an area experiencing growth in education and the economy, there is a significant need for a library in this region for the benefit of the community, students, and scholars. This final project aims to address this issue by proposing the design of a one-phase public library in the Panyabungan District of the Mandailing Natal Regency. The design methodology employed for this project is the neo-vernacular architectural approach. The chosen design location was determined through surveys and personal data analysis to support the planning of the Mandailing Natal Regency Public Library in the city of Panyabungan. In this design, the extensive work on the Mandailing Natal public library is guided by the transformation of traditional Mandailing houses. Given the uniformity of the surrounding buildings, the goal is to create an attractive structure that can become an iconic landmark within the environment. Neo-vernacular architecture is a design approach that prioritizes environmental considerations.

Abstract

This article aims to design a basketball sports hall in Deli Sport City North Sumatra that meets international standards by applying the theme of metaphor architecture. The design is focused on architectural aspects, including the arrangement of sports arenas and supporting facilities. This approach involves searching for ideas through various sources of information about the architectural data of basketball sports buildings and applying metaphorical themes as a solution in designing design ideas that are realized in the form of drawings. Metaphor architecture in the design of basketball sports buildings uses concepts or elements that refer to something familiar or symbolic to create visual and emotional appeal for visitors, and the approach applied is a shape or design element that resembles a basketball or part of a basketball game, such as the line pattern on a basketball, the shape of a net, It gives a dynamic impression and directly connects the building with its function.

Abstract

This paper aims to reflect on the transformation of roofs from merely providing shelter to becoming active thematic spaces in cafe architecture. This study responds to the phenomenon of uniquely designed cafes, which leverage various spatial aspects, including roofs, to enhance the outdoor spatial experience. Roofs are no longer just protective coverings against the weather, but have the potential to be reimagined as imaginative, explorative active spaces. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach based on case studies in Indonesia within a tropical context to illustrate the diverse roles and functions of roofs. The analysis is conducted by identifying the configuration of roofs as active spaces. The primary objective is to uncover how the application of roofs as active spaces involves various responsive design operations and strategies. The findings of this study highlight three key aspects of the new role of roofs: extended functionality, creative configurations, and functional construction. It is hoped that these insights will inspire cafe architectural designs to explore various other architectural aspects, beyond the traditionally understood limitations of roof functions.

Abstract

Artificial intelligence has evolved from being a design tool to a system capable of performing design analysis, generating architectural concepts. This study aims to explore students' views on AI that can complement their creativity and contextual sensitivity. Using a survey approach with a descriptive quantitative design, it explores students' perspectives on Artificial Intelligence. The findings show that although AI has significant potential to improve efficiency in the architectural profession, aspects such as creativity, empathy, and cultural sensitivity remain beyond the reach of technology.

Abstract

Medan City, known as the gateway for tourists heading to North Sumatra, is currently experiencing rapid development that attracts the interest of many people and investors, both for tourism and business purposes. Besides serving as temporary accommodation for tourists, hotels also play an essential role as facilities for commercial business meetings, offering services and accommodations. When designing a hotel, two crucial aspects must be considered efficiency and comfort. The design process involves specific methods that assist designers in developing their ideas. For the design of a hotel building in Medan City with a Norman Foster architectural approach, a descriptive analysis method is used. This method involves the exposition of natural phenomena and surrounding issues. Descriptive analysis aims to depict and explain phenomena without intervention. This process includes the collection, organization, and presentation of data in a narrative or descriptive manner.

Abstract

Tanjung Balai bus terminal has experienced a decline in function due to inadequate facilities, causing many bus companies to cease operations there. This situation, combined with the presence of illegal terminals that create congestion and lack comfort, has driven the redesign of the terminal into a Type B terminal that meets standards. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method, including site analysis, literature review, and field surveys to identify negative environmental impacts. The redesign aims to restore the terminal's function by applying neo-vernacular Malay architecture, creating comfortable facilities, and supporting infrastructure development. This project is expected to improve transportation quality, enhance public spaces, and provide benefits to the surrounding community.
