Abstract

The main problem that occurs in people with impaired lower extremity function is the risk of falling. For the elderly due to degradation of function or sick conditions, there will be a decrease in the strength of the muscles of the lower limbs or lower extremities can be aggravated by the presence of degenerative diseases such as osteoporosis, Parkinson's, poststroke, and fractures. Lower extremity fractures are mostly the result of accidental trauma, have a high hospitalization rate and require surgery. The impact of falling incidents on the elderly is that they result in various types of injuries, physical and psychological damage. To overcome these problems, it is necessary to design road aids which are improvements to the previous road aids. The wheel walker design method consists of the technical aspects of the mechanical design of the wheel walker, including the components involved, the materials used, and the design principles applied to achieve the optimal performance of the tool. The research design includes tools and materials, research flow diagrams and wheel walker design processes. Based on the results of the research, the wheel walker that has been designed and built in this study meets ergonomic and functional criteria for people with lower extremity function disorders. The design can be adjusted to the needs of the user, providing ease of mobilization and helping to increase the patient's independence in carrying out daily activities. Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic disease with a high complication rate that is strongly influenced by patient compliance with self-care management. This study aims to analyze the forms of compliance that affect self-care management in T2DM, sociodemographic characteristics that play a role in self-care management, and aspects of self-care management that contribute to improving compliance of T2DM patients. The method used was literature from the EBSCO, SAGE, and PubMed databases for the period 2021-2025, with the inclusion criteria of English articles, full text, and the use of Medical Subject Headings (MeSH Terms). The literature review showed that adherence in the aspects of blood sugar monitoring, diet management, physical activity, medication consumption, and foot care determine the success of self-care management. Sociodemographic factors such as advanced age, low education and economic level, and lack of social support were shown to reduce patient adherence to self-care management. In contrast, patients with good health education, access to adequate medical equipment, and family and community support showed a more optimal level of compliance and self-care management. Effective self-care management, especially in terms of diet management, physical activity, and blood sugar monitoring, significantly increases patient compliance, reduces the risk of complications, and improves quality of life. Thus, sociodemographic-based interventions, health education, and family/community involvement are essential to improve adherence and effectiveness of self-care management in T2DM patients.

Abstract

The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in nursing education presents both opportunities and challenges, particularly in aligning AI applications with national nursing standards. This study aimed to explore nursing students’ experiences in using AI across the nursing care process, including assessment, diagnosis, intervention, rationale development, implementation, and evaluation, as well as their perceptions of AI's alignment with the 3S books. A descriptive cross-sectional design was employed with a total of 186 nursing students recruited through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics. Findings revealed that students most frequently used AI during the assessment and diagnosis phases, while its application was limited in the implementation and evaluation stages. Furthermore, a majority perceived that AI recommendations were only partially aligned with the 3S books. These findings highlight the need for curriculum enhancement, including AI-specific training and the development of AI tools contextualized to local clinical guidelines. Clear policies, faculty readiness, and ethical considerations must be addressed to ensure safe and effective AI integration in nursing education. The study underscores the importance of institutional support in preparing nursing students to utilize AI responsibly and effectively within evidence-based and standardized frameworks.

Abstract

Overweight among adolescents continues to rise globally, including in Indonesia, primarily due to unhealthy lifestyles and fast-food consumption. One weight-loss strategy is a low-carbohydrate diet, yet knowledge and behavior regarding this diet among young women remain limited. This study aimed to examine the effect of educational videos on TikTok on knowledge and behavior related to low-carbohydrate diets among female students. A quasi-experimental study with a one-group pre-test and post-test design was conducted. A total of 17 female students aged 18-25 years from Satya Wacana Christian University were selected using purposive sampling. Over one week, participants watched educational videos daily and were monitored through online sessions. There was an increase in knowledge (from 1 to 1.71) and dietary behavior (from 1.12 to 2.29) after the TikTok educational intervention. Before the intervention, 100% of participants had poor knowledge of the diet, which decreased to 76%, with 25% achieving good knowledge. Dietary behavior also improved, with the proportion of participants in the moderate category increasing from 23% to 35%, although low behavior still predominated. TikTok educational media effectively improved knowledge; however, additional support is needed to achieve significant behavioral changes. More intensive interventions and social support may help optimize outcomes.

Abstract

The rising prevalence of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) highlights its significance as a global health concern requiring comprehensive management. CKD is characterized by a progressive, irreversible decline in renal function, leading to fluid and electrolyte imbalances. One such complication is hypevolemia, which can result in serious health consequences. Our case reports evaluates the effectiveness of implementing care bundles that incorporated both independent and collaborative nursing intervention. Data collection was conducted through observation, interviews, physical examinations, and supporting data. The subjects were two stage V CKD patients with hypervolemia at Umar Wirahadikusumah Hospital in Sumedang, West Java. Over a five-day period, interventions included patient education, fluid restriction, proper positioning, breathing relaxation techniques, and collaborative treatments such as administration of diuretics, antihypertensives, hemodialysis, and ascitic fluid paracentesis. The implementation of care bundles resulted in improved clinical outcomes, including stabilized blood pressure (120–130/70–80 mmHg), decreasing abdominal circumference (6–15%), reducing dyspnea (respiratory rate 20–25 breaths/min), and increasing oxygen saturation (98–99%). Nurses play a key role as caregivers and coordinators in delivering both independent and collaborative interventions. Through an interdiciplinary approach, the implementation of care bundles has proven effective in achieving optimal care goals and improving patient health outcomes.

Abstract

Cancer refers to a condition where cells grow uncontrollably, potentially harming nearby healthy tissues and spreading via the lymphatic system and bloodstream. Among various types of leukemia, Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) is the most frequently found in pediatric patients. Chemotherapy, the primary treatment, often causes nausea and vomiting, affecting the child's comfort and nutritional intake. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of P6 acupressure therapy in reducing nausea and vomiting in children with ALL. A case study was conducted involving two children undergoing chemotherapy at unit Anggrek, RS X, Jakarta. P6 acupressure was applied for 3–4 consecutive days. Results indicated a significant decrease in nausea intensity and vomiting frequency in one patient, while the other showed a mild reduction. The findings demonstrate that P6 acupressure is an effective, non-pharmacological nursing intervention for managing chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting in pediatric patients. This therapy can be safely taught to caregivers as part of home-based supportive care, providing practical implications for nursing practice in pediatric oncology settings.

Abstract

Hallucinations are a common symptom often experienced by people with schizophrenia. Treatment can be carried out through psychiatric nursing care combined with psychoreligious therapy. This study aims to describe the application of a combination of nursing care and psychoreligious therapy in patients diagnosed with sensory perception disorders: auditory and visual hallucinations. The method used was a clinical case report with five stages of the nursing process, from assessment to evaluation. The intervention was conducted over seven days, and psychoreligious therapy was administered twice daily for 10–20 minutes per session. The study subject was a patient, Mr. I, diagnosed with schizophrenia and experiencing auditory and visual hallucinations. The patient had a history of repeated hospitalizations at the psychiatric hospital with the same symptoms since 2019. Mr. I presented with complaints of laughing and talking to himself. The patient’s speech was incoherent, his affect was labile, he had difficulty focusing, and he exhibited a flight of ideas. The results showed that this intervention was effective for Mr. I, as the patient was able to recognize, dismiss, and redirect hallucinations independently, showed improved adherence to treatment, was able to maintain focus during conversations, was calmer, could open up emotionally, and experienced a reduction in the frequency of hallucinations. The conclusion of this study is that the combination of nursing care and psychoreligious therapy can be proven effective in enhancing the ability of schizophrenia patients to manage auditory and visual hallucinations independently.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the relationship between glycemic control and wound healing in patients with diabetes mellitus. A cross-sectional study was conducted at a diabetic wound clinic in Pasuruan from March to May 2025 involving 164 participants. Data were collected on HbA1c levels and wound healing outcomes, and analyzed using both Chi-square and Spearman correlation tests. The results showed a significant association between HbA1c categories and wound healing outcomes, with higher HbA1c levels linked to delayed healing. Spearman analysis confirmed a moderate negative correlation between continuous HbA1c values and wound healing scores, indicating that poor glycemic control impairs tissue repair. These findings highlight the importance of maintaining optimal blood glucose levels to accelerate wound recovery and prevent complications. Clinical recommendations include continuous glucose monitoring, individualized glycemic management, patient education, and structured self-care programs. Future research should employ multi-center designs and objective wound assessment tools to strengthen evidence and generalizability. The study provides essential insights for both clinical practice and public health strategies aimed at improving diabetic wound outcomes.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic, incurable disease associated with a reduced life expectancy of approximately 10 years due to cardiovascular complications such as ischemic heart disease and stroke. According to the International Diabetes Federation and WHO, the number of people with diabetes in Indonesia is projected to rise from 8.4 million in 2000 to 21.3 million in 2030. Data from the 2018 National Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) indicated an increase in prevalence from 6.9% in 2013 to 8.5% in 2018, with higher rates in urban (2.0%) compared to rural (1.0%) areas, and the highest prevalence observed up to the age of 65. South Kalimantan ranks second nationally in periodontal disease prevalence, which is significantly associated with diabetes. If left untreated, periodontal disease in diabetic patients may lead to severe infection and even death. This study aimed to analyze factors influencing blood glucose levels and periodontal disease in patients with diabetes mellitus. It employed an observational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach, involving 30 diabetic respondents. Bivariate analysis revealed significant associations between stress level (p = 0.013) and periodontal disease (p = 0.004) with blood glucose levels (p < 0.05). The study concludes that stress level and periodontal disease are significantly related to blood glucose control in diabetic patients. It is recommended to provide greater attention through curative efforts, including non-pharmacological therapies such as relaxation techniques, diabetes exercise programs, and proper tooth-brushing education for patients with diabetes mellitus.
