Abstract

Wadi’ Abu Fadil’s novel Al-Mutawali As-Salih portrays Lebanese social realities, particularly interreligious conflict and structural gender inequality. This study fills the gap in previous studies, which mostly focused on psychological and interpersonal aspects, by examining structural social inequalities through socialist realism. Using a descriptive, qualitative method and close-reading techniques, the data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model. The analysis applies socialist realism as the primary framework, supported by theories of power and patriarchy from Georg Lukács, Friedrich Engels, Pierre Bourdieu, and Deniz Kandiyoti. The findings reveal: (1) ideological tensions between Islam and Christianity, (2) spatial and educational restrictions on women, and (3) the normalization of patriarchal authority within family and social structures. The novel thus functions as a literary articulation of systemic inequality rather than merely a narrative of individual conflict. This study contributes to Arabic literary criticism by offering a structurally grounded interpretation of the novel within a socialist realist perspective.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis struktur dan kaidah kebahasaan teks anekdot dalam lima video stand-up comedy edisi Januari dan Februari 2026 yang dilakukan oleh Coki Pardede, Rigen, Mongol, Khairul Umam, dan Joel serta kelayakannya sebagai bahan ajar materi teks anekdot bahasa Indonesia kelas X. Kebaruan penelitian ini adalah pada video stand-up comedy edisi terbaru yang ada pada bulan Januari dan Februari tahun 2026 yang juga memberikan kesesuaian isi materi dengan tema atau konteks yang ada pada buku ajar teks anekdot. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yakni metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa dokumentasi dan transkripsi terhadap video stand-up comedy sebagai sumber data. Kemudian, data tersebut dikaji dengan teknik analisis struktur dan kaidah kebahasaan teks anekdot yang sesuai dengan materi teks anekdot kelas X. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat 95 data yang terbagi menjadi 35 data struktur teks anekdot secara runtut dan 60 data kaidah kebahasaan yang muncul secara konsisten dalam video tersebut. Berdasarkan uji kelayakan menggunakan kriteria Badan Standar Nasional Pendidikan (BSNP), video tersebut dinyatakan layak digunakan sebagai bahan ajar pendukung karena sesuai dengan capaian dan tujuan pembelajaran, tema, materi, dan kaidah kebahasaan teks anekdot. Hasil analisis tersebut dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai media audiovisual yang kontekstual, terbaru, serta menarik sebagai alternatif bahan ajar inovatif untuk meningkatkan motivasi belajar, keterampilan menyimak, dan kemampuan berpikir kritis peserta didik dalam pembelajaran teks anekdot bahasa Indonesia.

Abstract

This study examines the representation of an exotic girl in Joseph Conrad’s An Outcast of the Islands. It analyzes how a Western author portrays Aissa, a girl from the Dutch East Indies, whose dark brown skin and physical appearance are constructed through the author’s discourse of exoticism. The analysis focuses specifically on Aissa as the object of exoticism, rather than on the fertility of the land of Borneo or the culture of the natives. The term “exotic,” historically constructed through colonial discourse, is therefore examined through the portrayal of Aissa as a native girl from the Dutch East Indies.  The study explores how Conrad’s representation aligns with colonial stereotypes, emphasizing power relations between the colonizer and the colonized. The research applies Tyson’s postcolonial reading strategies and Huggan’s concept of postcolonial exoticism. The method used is descriptive qualitative analysis with textual examination. The findings reveal that Aissa functions as a literary construct that reinforces colonial imagination: exoticism as a commodity, marginal discourse, a literary representation strategy, and the construction of authenticity. This research contributes to understanding how cultural bias and gendered colonial perspectives remain embedded in modern Indonesian cultural perception. The implication highlights the need to deconstruct internalized colonial stereotypes still influencing cultural identity today.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of technology in education necessitates the use of adaptive learning media, particularly in the Pewara course, which emphasizes communication and practical skills. This study aims to examine the potential of using an interactive e-module based on the Merdeka Learning flow (Alur Merdeka) to improve students’ learning outcomes. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model in the development phase. The effectiveness of the product was evaluated using a one–group pretest–posttest design involving 69 students from the Department of Indonesian Language and Literature Education. The results indicated an improvement in students’ learning outcomes, with an average score increase of 26.20. The paired sample t-test yielded a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant difference between pretest and posttest scores. These findings suggest a change in learning outcomes following the use of the interactive e-module. However, these results should be interpreted with caution, as the study did not involve a control group. Therefore, the observed improvement in learning outcomes cannot be fully attributed to the use of the e-module. Accordingly, these findings represent preliminary evidence of the potential of the e-module to support learning in the Pewara course.
