This study aims to describe the portrayal of women in Bertolt Brecht's dramas. In his plays, Brecht's women descriptions are different from the typical characteristics of his time. By looking at the way he portrayed the female characters, Bertolt Brecht's purpose can be identified. The data sources of this study are three Bertolt Brecht’s dramas, namely Die Dreigroschenoper, Mutter Courage und Ihre Kinder, and Der Gute Mensch von Sezuan. Marxist feminist literary theory is used to analyze the data. The results show that the women in Brecht's drama are described as strong and independent women. Polly Peachum and Mrs. Peachum in Die Dreigroschenoper are independent women who work to help her husband in managing the business. Mutter Courage in Mutter Courage und Ihre Kind shows an independent woman who draws some money on the battlefield. Shen Te in Der Gute Mensch von Sezuan is a beautiful woman who was chosen by God as a good person and tries hard to open a business. From the portrayal of these women, it is comprehended that the women figures created by Brecht have different characters. They are eager to act and fight against the injustice against women and the classism factor. Despite their social class and gender being weak, they can rise and show their existence to prevent themselves from oppression. Brecht’s Marxist ideology preceded the portrayal of the female characters in his dramas.

This article aims to reveal how Riantiarno's horizon of expectation before reading the play Die Dreigroschenoper affects the results of his actualization in his play Opera Ikan Asin. The method that being used here is comparison and literature study method. The results show that not all of Riantiarno’s expectation were fullfiled. To fullfill the horizon of expectation, Riantiarno makes and adjustment. The unfulfillment in terms of theater norms have led to the inclusion of traditional elements into the play Opera Ikan Asin. Therefore, Brecht's play Die Dreigroschenoper gets Riantiarno closer to the tradition.

This study aims to describe the meanings of the signs in the Faust I drama script in terms of the relationship between human beings and the Satan. Its position in German literature, structure, and texture were analyzed. It was analyzed through two reading stages, namely heuristics and hermeneutics; then, the matrix, variance, hypogram, and intertextual relationship were analyzed. In Faust I, Goethe wishes to emphasize the existence of human beings who establish relationship with the Satan because of their desireto acquire scientific knowledge. The strong desire is constrained by limitation, making them take a wrong path by establishing relationship with the Satan.

The popularity of John Gay’s political satire play The Beggar’s Opera in the English literary world prompted a German writer, Bertolt Brecht, to respond to the work. The purpose of this study is to describe Bertolt Brecht's reception of Gay’s Play The Beggar’s Opera in Brecht’s Play Die Dreigroschenoper. The data sources in this study are the text of Brecht’s play entitled Die Drei Groschenoper and the text of Gay’s play The Beggar's Opera. This research is based on the theory of Reception Aesthetics by Hans Robert Jauss. The results show that Brecht’s reception was influenced by his horizon of expectations, which plays a central role in determining a writer’s reception of a work of literature. Brecht’s horizon of expectations, which is related to his Marxist view, distinguishes Brecht’s play from that by Gay. Brecht’s intention to make a play that enlightens his audience made him present a more explicit depiction of marginalized people in Die Dreigroschenoper, which was performed in the form of epic theater (episches Theater). By providing space to the marginalized, Brecht aimed to criticize capitalism which began to grow in Germany after the country’s loss in the First World War and divided the German society into two classes, resulting in various social issues. Brecht’s criticisms are different from Gay’s criticisms in shedding some light on the moral degradation in England at the time.

Tranformasi tokoh bisa terjadi ketika sebuah karya diresepsi oleh karya lain. Drama Die Dreigroschenoper karya Bertolt Brecht merupakan karya resepsi dari drama The Beggar’s Opera karya Jogn Gay yang tokoh utamanya, yakni Peachum mengalami tranformasi. Artikel ini membahas transformasi tokoh Peachum dari drama The Beggar’s Opera karya John Gay ke dalam drama Die Dreigroschenoper karya Bertolt Brecht. Studi ini mengaplikasikan teori resepsi hans Robert Jauss. Data penelitian ini berupa Hauptext dalam bentuk dialog dan monolog, serta Nebentext dalam drama The Beggar’s Opera dan Die Dreigroschenoper, serta data-data lain yang memuat informasi mengenai bagaimana trasformasi peran tokoh Peachum drama Die Dreigroschenoper. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah teks drama berjudul Die Drei Groschenoper karya Bertolt Brecht, dan teks drama The Beggar’s Opera karya John Gay. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa tokoh Peachum dalam drama Die Dreigroschenoper karya Bertolt Brecht mengalami transformasi peran dan karakter. Transformasi peran dan karakter Peachum dari drama The Beggar’s Opera karya Gay dan ke tokoh Peachum dalam drama Die Dreigroschenoper karya Bertolt Brecht disebabkan karena pengaruh horison harapan yang dipunyai oleh Brecht. Transformasi peran dan karakter yang terjadi dari resepsi karya tersebut berlatar ideologis. Idiologi marxisme yang dianut oleh Brecht menyebabkan Brecht menciptakan tokoh Peachum yang berbeda dan mementingkan materi (kapital) di atas segala-galanya.

Pembelajaran bahasa Jerman di SMA selama ini menghadapi kendala pada rendahnyaminat dan motivasi peserta didik untuk mempelajarinya. Hal ini disebabkan, antaralain karena posisi bahasa Jerman di sekolah yang kurang strategis jika dibandingkandengan bahasa Inggris dan persepsi dari peserta didik yang menganggap bahasa Jermansulit dan tidak menarik untuk dipelajari. Kondisi tersebut tentu menjadi tantangantersendiri bagi pengajar bahasa Jerman di SMA untuk dapat menyelenggarakan prosesbelajar mengajar yang menarik dan kreatif agar salah satu sumber belajar yang selamaini jarang digali dan dimanfaatkan oleh pengajar bahasa Jerman adalah teks sastraberbahasa Jerman. Teks sastra merupakan salah bentuk teks yang sangat dimungkinkanuntuk diolah sebagai materi ajar untuk memperdalam penguasaan aspek kebahasaandan sekaligus mengembangkan keterampilan berbahasa Jerman peserta didik di SMA.Penggunaan teks sastra akan memberikan warna yang berbeda dari pembelajaranbahasa Jerman yang konvensional. Pada artikel ini dipaparkan penerapan Gedicht danMärchen dalam pembelajaran bahasa Jerman.

The training for language teachers aims to improve the competence of) language teachers in teaching a language in the classroom. By participating in this training, language teachers are expected to be more familiar with games in language teaching and apply them in the classroom so that students' ability to learn languages include foreign language will also increase. The method used is training that is carried out offline and online in three meetings. In the first meeting, language teachers were guided to understand the concept of games in language and foreign language teaching. The second meeting was filled with best practice presentations and practical discussions on making a Learning Implementation Plan by utilizing games in language teaching. In the third session, the participants presented their lesson plans and learning videos from their classrooms. From the results of the training, it is known that after attending the training, language teachers' understanding and mastery of various games in language teaching and learning have increased. Teachers are also ready to apply games in their classrooms. Keywords: Games, language learning, training Abstrak Pelatihan permainan dalam pembelajaran bahasa bagi guru-guru bahasa bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi guru-guru bahasa dalam pembelajaran bahasa di kelas. Dengan mengikuti pelatihan ini diharapkan guru-guru bahasa lebih mengenal permainan dalam pembelajaran bahasa dan mengaplikasikannta di kelas sehingga kemampuan siswa dalam belajar bahasa termasuk bahasa asing juga semakin meningkat. Metode yang dipakai adalah pelatihan yang dilaksanakan secara luring dan daring dalam tiga kali pertemuan. Pada pertemuan pertama, para pengajar bahasa dibimbing untuk memahami konsep permainan dalam pengajaran bahasa asing. Pertemuan kedua diisi dengan presentasi best practice dan diskusi praktik membuat Rencana Pelaksanaan Pembelajaran dengan memanfaatkan permainan dalam pembelajaran bahasa. Sesi ketiga, para peserta mempresentasikan RPP dan video pembelajaran. Dari hasil pelatihan diketahui bahwa setelah mengikuti pelatihan, pemahaman dan penguasaan guru-guru bahasa tentang berbagai permanan dalam pembelajaran bahasa semakin meningkat. Guru-guru juga siap untuk mengaplikasikan permainan dalam pembelajaran bahasa di kelasnya. Kata kunci: pelatihan, pembelajaran bahasa, permainan

Improving teacher competence is important in learning German. To improve the quality of learning German, the Devotion Team at the Department of German Language Education FBS-UNY held a Classroom Action Research training for German language teachers who are members of the Indonesian German Teacher Association (IGBJI). This Community Service Activity is realized in the form of a 32-hour training (workshop) which is divided into 3 meeting sessions. First session contains an explanation of the theories and methods of Classroom Action Research. Meanwhile, second session contains mentoring activities to find research ideas, and last Session contains presentations of research proposals from selected participants. This training activity is carried out entirely online using the Zoom application. Classroom Action Research training activities can be carried out properly and get the results as planned. The attendance rate of registered participants is in the good category. Average attendance of 50 people per session (69.4%) of the total 72 registrants. Participation of participants in the discussion is also good. At the end of the activity, 23 Classroom Action Research proposals were produced. Thus, German teachers are able to apply the results of this activity by observing the state of learning German in their respective schools and taking scientific steps to carry out action research.

This study aims to describe the meaning of symbols and the concept of religiosity contained in the text of the romance Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse with.The source of the data in this study is Hermann Hesse's romance Siddhartha published in 1922. The data were analyzed by qualitative descriptive analysis techniques using a hermeneutical approach. The validity of the data is obtained from validity tests and reliability tests.The results showed that there are two symbols and four concepts of religiosity contained in Hermann Hesse's Siddhartha romance. The symbol found is a symbol of unity and a symbol of immortality. The symbol of unity is indicated by "Om", while the symbol of immortality is indicated by the river and its flow. The concept of religiosity includes ritual involvement, ideological involvement, intellectual involvement, experiential involvement, and consequential involvement.

The purpose of this study to describe and reveal the comparation of the independence of female characters in Pramoedya Ananta Toer’s Bumi Manusia and in Bertolt Brecht’s Mutter Courage und Ihre Kinder. This research is a qualitative descriptive study using the comparative literature method. This research will describe and comprehend the comparison of independent female characters in the Pramudya Ananta Toer’s Bumi Manusia and in Brecht’s Mutter Courage und Ihre Kinder by Bertolt Brecht. The results showed that from the comparison of two independent female character in two literary works, namely novel Bumi Manusia and drama Mutter Courage und Ihre Kinder, it can be concluded that there are many similarities of the two independent female characters despite the difference. Equation (affinity) also showed that the two works were created by different authors are also mutually influence. Drama Mutter Courage und Ihre Kinder by Bertolt Brecht created in 1938 possibly affect Bumi Manusia novel created by Pramoedya Ananta Toer in 1975. Moreover, both authors are communist and they created the two literary works while in exile.
