Abstract

Discipline is a condition which provides encouragements to someone to do and perform all activities following the norms or rules. The purpose of this study was to analyze and determine the effect of the leaders’ model on the teachers’ work discipline at elementary schools in Kecamatan Bontomarannu, Kabupaten Gowa. The population in this study was all elementary school teachers and principals at Kecamatan Bontomarannu, Kabupaten Gowa, consisting of 113 people from 18 schools with the status of Civil Servants (PNS). Considering the large population, the samples were chosen by random simple sampling resulting in 47 teachers and 18 principals taken as the samples. The results of this study were 1) compensation, leaders’ model and the assertiveness of rules affected the teachers’ work discipline at elementary schools in Kecamatan Bontomarannu, Kabupaten Gowa. This was supported by the results of F test showing that the value of F-calculated was 47,352 with a significance value of 0,000 (< 0.05) at a significance level of 95% (α = 0.05). Thus, the factors of compensation, leaders’model, and assertiveness were crucial to improve the teachers’ work discipline at elementary schools; 2) Compensation, leadership models, and assertiveness respectively affected the elementary school teachers’ work discipline; for example, compensation positively and significantly influenced for 0.212, the leaders’ model positively and significantly influenced for 0.342, the assertiveness positively and significantly influenced for 0.340, and those three factors significantly influenced the elementary school teachers’ work discipline in Kecamatan Bontomarannu, Kabupaten Gowa.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness level of teaching module in writing descriptive texts for a junior high school level. This research utilized research and development (R and D) method proposed by Sugiyono. This study was conducted in ten steps including: (1) Potentials and problems, (2) Data collection, (3) Product design, (4) design validation, (5) design revision, (6) product trial, (7) product revision, (8) use trial, (9) product revision, and (10) mass production. The subjects in this study were 34 students at grade VIII SMP Negeri 6 Dumai. The data were gathered by conducting an interview and distributing questionnaires. Sources of data were the results of interviews, questionnaires, and literature studies. Then, data in this study were analyzed by using a Likert scale. Based on the results of this study, it could be concluded that Dumai Kotaku teaching module was effective to be used as teaching material for junior high school students. It was seen from the results of the validation assessment by lecturers and teachers, as well as the assessment by students. Moreover, the results of limited trials for students revealed that the final score was in very good category. Lastly, the student assessments and the results of limited trials to students showed a correlated result.

Abstract

A good education produces satisfactory learning outcomes. Creative learning requires teachers to be able to use all available resources so that students learn optimally. One of the efforts to maximize learning at home is the use of appropriate media for the conditions and situations at school. The teachers’ difficulty of using suitable media is a problem, especially the teaching of English words. Students still have insufficient vocabulary mastery; as a result,innovations and effort are required in order that students can improve their learning outcomes. One of the media that can be used is scrabble. This research used classroom action research method. The class action was carried out in 2 cycles. The initial cycle began with mapping the students' initial abilities and administering a test after using Scrabble. The second cycle was conducted by improving the teaching through scrabble. 21 students were involved in the classroom action research. The results showed that scrabble could improve English vocabulary learning outcomes. The average score in cycle 1 was 77.9 and in cycle 2 was 78.9. There was an increase for1 point. This result was expected to be improved as the students' vocabulary increased. Teachers should be able to use various and effective media so that students would not get bored studying in class. Learning outcomes increased along with the increase in students’ activities in the classroom.

Abstract

Learning Indonesian is directed to improve the ability of learners in communicating orally and in writing. Theability to communicate well and correctly is in accordance with the context of time, purpose and atmospherewhen communication is held. This research is a classroom action research by taking data on daily test I anddaily test II with assessment of three aspects, namely speaking intonation, pronunciation, and voice clarity.From the research result, the use of look and speech method was able to improve the speaking skill of children inclass I SDN 005 Koto Sentajo with very high category on daily test I with the number of students two peopleincreased to five people. In the high category of the number of eight students in the daily test II increased in thedaily test II with a total of seven students, while in the ample category in repeat I with the number of studentsfour people increased to two students in Repeat II. With an overview of the research data, the use of the methodcan be seen as effective in improving students' speaking skills in primary schools.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the problems in learning interactive art and culture at Junior High School level which was categorized as the millennial generation. The focus of this study laid in the interdisciplinary aspect of social media in multimodality of learning arts and culture. In order to reveal the opportunities and challenges of the use of social media in its development as a medium in interactive art and culture learning, as well as the students’ responses about it. This study used qualitative-analytic method. Data were obtained from observation conducted from January to June 2020 at junior high schools in Surabaya, East Java. The results showed that the learning involvement experienced by students had complexity and multimodality, including collaborative work, observing, and evaluating each other's work, and involvement in finding, identifying, and exploring trends related to delivery in social media as a medium for art and culture learning. This implied that this learning involvement was able to motivate students to be more actively involved in learning with a sense of joy; positioning artwork with others on social media; increasing the contextual and conceptual understanding in the learning materials and applying it as a process of actualizing aesthetic skills; and improving critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Abstract

School is one of the centers for learning activities administered to develop students’ potential. Students can  do various types of activities at school, such as : reading, writing, taking notes, asking questions, practicing, and expressing opinions. However, some schools administer the morning session and others administer the afternoon session. This study aimed to describe differences on the students’ learning activities at grade IV SD Negeri 147 Pekanbaru. The study was conducted through a qualitative method. Data were collected through observation while the techniques of data analysis were collecting data, reducing data, presenting data, and finally searching for conclusions. The results of this study showed that students attending the morning session performed more positive activities while students attending the afternoon session performed more negative activities. This research was expected to broaden the knowledge and insights of researchers in the field of education, particularly in students’ learning activities, and as a consideration for future researchers.

Abstract

This research is a descriptive quantitative research. The purpose of this research is to describe the skills of PGSD FKIP Riau University students in writing official letters. The data collection technique is writing test. The validity of the research has been validated by experts. The sample in this study was 78 students from the 2016 to 2018 class of PGSD FKIP Riau University students. The skills of PGSD FKIP students of the University of Riau were analyzed by using categories from 12 predetermined aspects. The results show that the average of completeness of the letter parts aspect was 94.87 with a very good category, the average of writing a letter head aspect was 69.87 with a good category, the average of the letter date aspect was 79.80 with a good category, the average number of the letter aspect was 75.32 with a good category, the average  of the attachment aspect was 95.19 with a very good category, the average of things / subject aspect was 89.74 with a very good category, the average of the address letter aspect was 78.52 with a good category, the average of the greeting aspect was 75.96 with a good category, the average of the contents of the letter aspect was 90.06 with a very good category, the average of closing greetings aspect was 51.28 with a moderate category, the average of writing the name of the sender aspect was 78.20 with a good category, the average of using sentences aspect was 59.61 with a moderate category. From these results, the overall average was 78.205 with a good category. This shows that the skills of writing an official letter from PGSD FKIP Riau University students are good.

Abstract

Teachers of Special Schools (SLB) are demanded to have professionalism in teaching. The teachers’ professionalism represents the commitment of teachers to improve their professional abilities and to develop their skills in carrying out their duties and functions as teachers. This study aimed to determine the effect of education, training, and teaching experience on teachers’ professionalism of special elementary school (SDLB) teachers in Kabupaten Kudus. This study was an explanatory research with a quantitative approach. The research subjects were 63 SDLB teachers in Kabupaten Kudus. The samples were selected through total sampling technique. The data were collected through a questionnaire and were analzed by using multiple regression analysis. The results showed that education partially had a positive and significant effect on the professionalism of SDLB teachers in Kabupaten Kudus. Similarly, teaching experience partially gave a positive and significant effect on the professionalism of SDLB teachers in Kabupaten Kudus. Overall, this study found that both education and teaching experience had a positive and significant effect on the professionalism of SDLB teachers. This was supported by the result of the coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.645 showing that the influence of education and teaching experience on teacher professionalism was 64.5%. moreover, teaching experience had the greatest influence on teachers’ professionalism for 55.4% while the effect of education was 9.1%. This study concluded that the professionalism of SDLB teachers in Kabupaten Kudus could be increased by providing more teaching experience and trainings as an effort to improve teachers’ competence

Abstract

This research was a qualitative descriptive study aiming at revealing factors determining students’ self-motivation at Universitas Riau. Self-motivationwas a crucial element in the implementation of blended learning-based curriculum in the industrial 4.0 era. The data for this research were collected by using questionnaireswhich were distributed through google forms for all students in each faculty. They were selected as the samples in this research with a total of 515 students. The results showed that the score for ‘havingmotivation to achieve something’ was 4.21 or 84.12% which was categorized as good;the score for the commitment aspect was 4.34 or 86.70% which was categorized asgood; the score of the initiative aspect was 3.87 or 77.50% which was categorized assufficient;the score foroptimisticaspect was 4.15 or 83%, and theoverall average score was 4.14 or 82.85% which was categorized as good. Based on the 10 indicators as a determining factors for the students’ self-motivation at Universitas Riau, all of them can determine the level of achievement of the self-motivation . Sequentially, the determining factors from the highest to the lowest were needed for lectures, self-introspection, fulfilling class assignments, confidence in abilities, complacency/not giving up easily, enthusiasm for attending lectures,orientation  to success, prefering  to work on case studies, self-confidence, and managing times for study.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of Snowball Throwing (X1) and Problem Based Learning (X2) models on the students’ social science learning motivation at grade IV elementary schools. The results showed that the snowball throwing model increased the students’ learning motivation based on the value of Sig. (2-tailed) showing that 0.000 <0.05 or t-count 10.660> t-table 1.69236. moreover, problem based learning model also increased the students’ learning motivation based on the value of Sig. (2-tailed) showing that 0.000 <0.05 or t-count 9.603> t-table 1.68957. The results demonstrated that there were differences in the effect of Snowball Throwing model and Problem Based Learning model on students’ social science learning motivation at grade IV in the public elementary schools. This was supported by the mean score of the posttest in experiment 1 which was 74.93 and the mean score of the posttest in experiment 2 which was 71.94.
